I was expecting he would have said, then when the guy opened up his coat the dog jumped on him and bit him in the nuts. But no, a lovely story.

- I worked for an accounting firm that did work for Hackett. I learned that he donated at least ⅓ of his income every year to 6 charities he loved, along with various other charitable organizations. He never talked about it, he just gave since he started regularly working Vegas. He rarely used swear words outside of during his act and public appearances. He did this until the end of his life.. He was a good guy and naturally funny. They say he had a very high I.Q., which startled me when I first heard that many years ago.

nalla t Probably very true... As opposed to Trump who claims he gives to this and that and doesn't give away anything and has a low IQ...

Gringo - ...or Hillery who claims to have helped many people through The Clinton Foundation when in reality only gives 5% of the money to charities.

If you watched your father turn a stick-up man into an apprentice, you'd be giving half your money to charity also. That is the definition of setting an example for your kid. What an amazing story.

Gringo Louco you are very wrong. Many times I have seen people from a woman having stage 4 brain cancer praying to have her little son go to college after she dies to a man living in a basement with no job. Trump helped both of these people. Trump brought a suit down to give to the man for a job interview...which he got the job AND the woman died and Trump helped the son. The woman was Mexican and the man was African American. People call him names, but if they would only look what he does and does not tell people about. And FYI, I have worked with some of the richest and smartest people in the world...the real ones never tell you anything, they just listen.

I am so thankful I am able to watch Johnny Carson reruns after all these years. It was his show I watched from the 70's until he retired. Now I'm retired and enjoy the shows just as much. I cannot stand the rude hateful talk shows on now. Corbert, Kimmel and Fallon are third class showmen. No humor or humanity.

During the Tonight Show episode aired the night of the 1969 Oscars, Johnny and Buddy predicted the winner of that night's Best Picture Oscar (Oliver!) and Best Supporting Actor (Jack Albertson). The Tonight Show was taped three hours before the broadcast (Tonight Show was in New York, Oscars were in Los Angeles) and Price Waterhouse investigated to see if there was a leak (and a couple folks got canned). Turned out that Johnny and Buddy was just taking guesses and hit right.

See the ashtray? People used to be allowed to smoke on TV and just about everywhere else. Messrs. Hackett and Carson will never be replaced.

Since Johnny left the Tonight Show, I have NEVER laughed watching it. Leno, not even a chuckle. I don't know who that clown on there now is, but if that is humor, I am glad to got rid of my TV.

I mentioned the ashtray in an earlier post. I read maybe 30 years ago that Buddy Hackett said he'd never give an interview to anyone who was smoking, but he was friends with Dean Martin, an inveterate smoker. Guess if he really liked somebody, he'd make exceptions.
@garyrasberryjr.552
@garyrasberryjr.552 2 жыл бұрын
Carson would openly smoke for years. When the 80s rolled around, he would only smoke during breaks (and the ashtray he used was hidden behind the desk away from the couch). Tony Randall would chide him on his smoking.
@TheBrooklynbodine
@TheBrooklynbodine 2 жыл бұрын
@@garyrasberryjr.552 I don't know if he was an activist, but I do know Tony Randall was virulently anti-smoking himself. Also, Johnny Carson himself said, concerning cigarettes "These things are killing me." And that was as early as the mid-70s. Turned out to be prophetic, as he died of emphysema. His younger brother said that during their last conversation that Johnny repeatedly said "Those damn cigarettes." He died 1-23-05; I'm posting 1-30-22, so he's been dead a wee bit over 17 years at this point.

You know, I really don't give a darn what this Buddy wore, I so enjoyed his approach. He seems to have been a very sentimental guy, with all the struggles. At the same time, I agree with you, Dog, the styles have changed. O'l Buddy was a slugger!!
