That there were any Vraksians left in the armory by the time the Kriegsmen got there shows that these were remarkably restrained Khorne Berserkers.

As a boilermaker, I can verify that physical work wearing a gas mask in a hot, dark, cramped environment is really horrible, and I don't need to worry about chaos berserkers.

At least you dont have to wear a WWI era mask. Yours should be a lot more comfortable, and actually, let see and breath. Even wearing a modern military respirator is a complete PITA. Considering modern ones, you can drink in whilst wearing one. Almost the worst 36 hours of my life, woking in full NBC gear the entire time, on an exercise.
@alganhar1

@@Yandarval Worse, WWI Gas masks were not fully sealed. If you take the British Box Respirator as an example, the mouthpiece is essentially similar to a modern scuba or snorkel mouthpiece, but far less comfortable as the many soft plastics we use in such things these days did not exist back then. I don't know if you have ever been on a long dive, but even a modern scuba mouthpiece can get uncomfortable after a while. Then to make things worse they function by drawing air through the 'box', which is basically full of carbon impregnated filters and is worn at the waist. There is no mechanical aid, no pump in there to help out, the pump is your lungs! To make sure you cannot accidentally breathe through the nose (so ruin the very reason for wearing the mask in the first place) a leather or rubber covered steel clip in the mask clips over the nose, so blocking it off. In short, they are effing uncomfortable to wear for even a few minutes, let alone for hours. They make modern gas masks positively luxurious in comparison. Still, they did the job they were designed for, the box respirator better than most for the period (which is why the Americans essentially copied it for their own pattern of respirator). A few hours discomfort is better than slowly drowning to death in your own mucous as Mustard gas ruins your lugs!

towards 38:20 , here it feels like the author got a litte bit 'stuck up' on the scene since 1. krieg LOVES greater chance to sacrifice aka BROADER fronts 2. with all the counter mining before hand , counter mines at the breach point should been expected 3. super soldiers can project their limited but focused martial impact on battle more in confined spaces , sooo shouldent the krieg asked gergorri to keep expanding the mines and kept working to open more and more breaches even while engaging in said breach since if they die topside or in the underground matters little ,but if you forced the foes to fight in armoires that not could be emptied beforehand or force them to sacrifice equipment in intentional citadel tunnel collapses , every death bellow ground shorten the siege more then topside

why did they even bother sieging vraks anyway? wouldn't it have been infinitely better to have let the cardinal eventually charge out with his forces and destroy them in the open? vraks had no strategic value anyway seeing as the empire basically abandonned it immediately after retaking it
@Kriel_Drache
@Kriel_Drache 4 күн бұрын
The thing is, Vraks was an Armory World, so it had a vast supply of military equipment stored away in vaults on the planet. The original goal of laying siege to Vraks was to retake control of the planet quickly so the Imperium could reclaim those vast stores of equipment. By the time the Imperium did take the world, though, the Vraksians had already used up virtually all of that equipment.
@martynkalendar
@martynkalendar 4 күн бұрын
@@Kriel_Drache i know but like, even optimistically the siege would have taken years, it feels a bit unreasonable to have expected any armoury, no matter how large, to not have been depleted under such circumstances

@@martynkalendarI assume the idea was that, in the case of a long drawn out war, they would still be able to retrieve the extreme stuff. The TP-III featured in this story or things like virus bombs which a simple rebellious planet would not use on its own soil in this war. However, when the regular old apostate preacher started summoning up armies of chaos space marines, that becomes a silly assumption. Clearly, these outside forces would use anything in that armory, and if nothing else, rig it to explode to deny the Imperium. As soon as the chaos influence is clear, the Imperial forces should have realized this would be a planet with near zero value in the long-term and smashed the exterminatus button.
@Yandarval
@Yandarval 3 күн бұрын
@@Alex_Fahey In a more sensible 'verse. After the first attempt to retake the planet via a quick strike failed. Vraks would have left to it. With just a few light warships on distant blockade duty (outside of ground fire range) to kill anything going to and from the planet. Everyone will have starved to death, run out of air etc, in a few decades. Unless a Chaos warband comes calling (which in this more sensible 'verse, very very unlikely to happen). The light forces killing transports and freighters trying to get in and out, make this a low cost, low resource op to get the planet and a good chunk of the armoury back. Or do limited Virus Bombing of the planet. The stored gear is not going to care about the lack of Oxogen. The armoury is deep enough to not really have to worry about seals being breached by the VB gas either. Do it after the first failed atack. The vast vast majority of gear will still be sealed up, all nice and tight. but in our 40K. The Khan is the only one with the superpower called Common Sense.

The issue is that a rebellion like this if allowed to spread tends to become much, much harder to put down. The Imperium is notoriously totalitarian and discontent can easily be stirred up into secessionist action. So if the Cardinal was allowed to spread further from Vraks he would not only have a sturdy Armoury world capable of supplying his rebellion, he would turn possibly an entire sector if not more into a rebellious element, denying the Imperium the manpower, material and resources they provide. Also considering the proximity to the Eye of Terror in Segmentum Obscurus, and the desperate underdog position of such an uprising, it would be a rebellion ripe for Chaos to suborn as they already have, only imagine this sort of danger across an even wider spread of space. The more Chaos gets to entrench itself, the higher the ratio of expenditure to retake or destroy the space becomes, and they cannot have that. And politically speaking that it becomes a sunk cost for the Imperium to spend that many resources for no gain and a danger for its commanders careers for incompetence to simply abandon.

40K is honestly getting more and more dull. Perhaps i am reading to much sci-fi where progress is not stifled to I said so. No ground penetrating scanners in the 40K? Because i said so... What??? pickaxes in the 40K because i said so... its so dumb and dull and i don't know its just not interesting anymore. Its just stupid for stupid reasons. The mole launcher okay so its not operated by a drill okay with that logic why not a gigantic melta gun to beam a straight straight line in an instant. Well actually you cant because i said so. Why not shape charges that does the same so you just murder anyone on the other side with ease and mine a 100M tunnel at the same time. Why is it down to medieval sapper warfare. BEACUSE I SAID SO... extreme inconsistencies of what can and cant be how it is and how it isn't at the same time. Whatever happens at the end time tzeentch clearly won given how little sense 40K universe makes. Sometimes its hard to tell if its the 41st millennium or an 80s fever dream of what the world would look like if we elected Nixon a third time. jokes aside the 40K is incredibly low tech arguably we will and would surpass 40K's tech by 2100-2300 unless something really bad happens. Anyways head cannon can only take you that far and well... I think its time for me to realize that I dont like 40K anymore. Still love warhammer but the fantasy aspect of it and even Shitmar has its fancy but 40K ... its just dumb and IMO a mistake that was made at this point.

@@kingbugs3558 The joke is fine, if it is consistent. 40K is anything BUT consistent.... While I do still like 40K personally, the inconsistencies do piss me off, especially as I got older and started to realise just how much of it is down to the sheer laziness of the various authors. You can only take an over exaggerated trope so far before it stops being amusing and becomes annoying. EDIT: And do try not to explain how things have changed since 40K started, I am well aware of that as I have been involved with 40K ever since it was a little game called Rogue Trader... The only thing consistent about the setting has been the laziness of many of the writers involved.

I think your're confusing Scifi for magic. You can't have a giant melta gun that just melts through the earth all at once because whats going to power it? whats its fuel? How would you limit your're own casualties and how would you ensure it didn't destroy the war gear you are on planet trying to get? You don't like 40k because it doesn't have space-magic scifi goofiness like startrek or starwars. Fine your allowed to feel that way. "ground penetrating scanners" Ok what waves are they using to scan? we cant even send radio waves through water with any degree of usefulness what wavelength do you suggest the imperium tune these "scanners" on to penetrate solid earth? An author just saying "gizmo works cus scifi and it was invented in the future so they can do it" is not any better writing than anything you complained about
