44:00 I feel Arch is being overly unfair to Gaunt since he has neglected to explain that the presence of the blood pack survivors using Tanith uniforms taken from dead troopers for the sabotage scheme created reasonable doubt towards Cuu's guilt, since one of the blood pack could have been responsible the crime.
@Rockcrusher2289515 күн бұрын
Very true and it also took another outsider in the form of a old priest that Gaunt had picked up from Hegia as a spiritual support for the regiment who finally told Gaunt about the act he was putting on by favoring the Tanith over the Verghast recruits.

Arch's inquisitor persona which is narrating, has a deliberate bias infused into the narrator. Imagine this series as a log of inquisitorial evidence for a conclave meeting of inquisitors to refer to as a trial/conclusive decision is made about the events of the sabbat worlds crusade.

Tbh i do think its an unfortunate part of arch playing a "role" of an inquisitor explaining information, while extremely fun, interesting and very immersive, also means 1. an inquisitor being biased, no surprise, but also 2. Trying to figure out what would be "appropriate" for the inquisition to have records of, with the final tinge of logically the "inquisitor" wouldn't know what gaunt would be thinking. I think there's been a few situation where you can just tell arch is thinking as hard as possible to how the inquisition would know certain things, even just going "the inquisition are sneaky lil buggers" if the information is too great to keep secret, like the prophecy that gaunt learned from the psyker.

43:42 I should also point out that the only reason Lija Cuu got off was because the aforementioned Blood Pact infiltrators had used Tanith disguises incuding their knives (which was the murder weapon), had been active at the time and the other key piece of evidence a defaced coin was also used and in the possession of the Pacters. Cuu had been seen looting said coins and had some in his possession (which for some reason the Blood Pact felt compelled to open a safe to insert said coins into it after they defaced them). Bragg and Larkin saw this and Bragg told Gaunt. Additionally the Commisariat was negligent in its duties for not running a DNA test in a Rape case with a contested perpetrator as a basic modern one only takes 2 or so days to get a result.
@Rockcrusher2289514 күн бұрын
Yeah, even though Larks didn't want to tell on Cuu because he was scared of him so badly but, Bragg being the kind, gentle, and slightly not intelligent trooper thought that if Cuu was turned in and found guilty, then he was. If he was proven innocent, then he was innocent. Poor Bragg didn't know that Cuu would remember that with such a hateful grudge and spite he murdered him while the rest of the Ghosts that were with them were too busy fighting the Blood Pact or returning to the rear for more ammo that the bastard took his chance and not just murdered, he defiled Bragg!!! The worst part of that was when the final blow was being struck Cuu admitted to the crime and cruelly boasted to Bragg he enjoyed it without any remorse. This is the kind of villain you really hate in 40K, the bastards who commit such evil deeds and crimes without the influence of Chaos showing that once again Humanity is just as capable in destroying itself without the need of external forces guiding them. If you need another example, think back on a certain insane High Lord to your minds.

I think by Behemoths he's just refering to the size, the book mentions an old outdated local pattern of giant Bombers being used and tbh I'm not sure if they were ever named hence calling them behemoths (maybe Magog's or something similar, but that could be from Double Egale or elsewhere it's been a while since I re-read any of these) as for the Flachette pistol, it's not in this book, but there's been a few shorts with the Urdesh elsewhere and it could of been mentioned in one of them, I've found a lot of the shorts in the later compilations a bit of slog and not read all of them so the weapon could exist, or equally Arch could be getting mixed up

Rome put their veterancy to the back of the line. It meant that the best was kept in reserve and used when things would start getting south. Imperials according to Arch is putting their best in the front. That is just another proof of Imperial incompetence as first troops experience highest casualty rates and usually are least significant in making an impact on an operation. An untrained coward is just as good of a statistic than a seasoned veteran. This is why they are not put as a first assault wave.
@SXsoft9915 күн бұрын

@AlvorReal15 күн бұрын
Experienced troops lead assaults because they are more disciplined, organized, and effective. Any kind of opposed landing needs your best of the best for a great many reasons.
@lasskinn47415 күн бұрын
they're supposed to be having loads of easier engagements where everyone doesn't die before they get to the epic actions written down in the books. and also they're supposed to make the first wave actually happen. and it's not supposed to fail. and the defenders would almost always in normal non epic circumstances be noobs. it wasn't that uncommon in the history to lead with experienced cavalry etc to just crash and decide the smaller battles quickly either. meatwaving of noobs is more of a slav thing, applicable to many things, like even just building st petersburg was meatwaved. roman legions even were not a meatwave tactics operation as such but rather a power over the enemy through discipline and tactics. really for most encounters you didn't need that much tactic, but for the time still an enormous amount to stay disciplined in the formation and not just run around the battefield. and sure you could meatwave a roman legion with enough men, but gathering and feeding enough men to do that was extremely complicated at the time.
@REgamesplayer15 күн бұрын
@@lasskinn474 Cavalry historically always tended to be more of an elite formation due to costs concerning in having a mobile troop/formation. In ancient time you needed a lot of coordination and discipline. It was difficult to control formations during fighting. I heavily disagree with the idea that the most experienced troops need to lead the charge as those situations tend to be periods where unit experience is irrelevant. Most experienced troops have to come in after enemy was measured, beachhead established and reinforcements can commit assaulting enemy lines when battlefield lines were drawn, strength approximated and path secured. Exceptions are in some difficult tasks like infiltration, small scale breach, deep insertion. In this example, Imperial guard tried to do Normandy landings without naval bombardment, air support or anything. They just landed limited amount of troops to be lost if it just so happens that city is actually well defended. Luckily, it wasn't well defended and Imperial gambit paid off.
@desperado32365 күн бұрын
Meatwaving is not a slav thing at all if you're only example is ww2 ussr. Everyone's done it at some point. The Persians did it in the persian wars, everyone did it at ww1, the chinese did it at korea/viet wars...hell even the americans did it during ww2 in certain battles. The problem is classification as troops are want to exaggerate. I agree for the most part though that there are times when you want to hit the enemy with experienced troops rather than noobs. I think it depends on what kinda war you're fighting. Maneuver or attrition. I see meatwaves as more of a desperation move than anything. Something you only do if you can't afford to have your vets die.

The rear brain at the back of the head controls all our autonomic functions such as breathing, heartbeat, instinctual behavior, and so on. The front of the brain controls our higher functions such as speech, cognitive reasoning, and so on. The rear brain is referred to as the animal brain and the front of the brain is considered to be what makes us human...above and more intelligent than other animals. So, a man having the back of his brain blown out, thus making him a simpleton makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I love the books, but Abnett needs to do a little more research.
