this is what missing from Arcimoto riders. Not enough cool NEW videos like this to spread the word.

You are a brave man just doing 30mph in this for a whole trip... I want one and want to believe in this company and their product but they do need to step it up with different battery sizes and fast charging. Not to mention adding removable doors for us in colder weather.
@EVResource2 жыл бұрын
It was actually the most amount of fun I’ve ever had driving that slowly! 😂😂
@yulog2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, if you can only go 30-35mph to get the 100 miles per charge and your paying 20k, there has to be better options.

These are cool cell phones with wheels, I really wish they were longer lasting than the average cell phone. Like my Ebike, it's great in theory...
@EVResource Жыл бұрын
I found that for local use, the Arcimoto FUV would be great! But the slower charging and small battery are very limiting for longer trips (like this one).
@michaelvanhorn3271 Жыл бұрын
@@EVResource I think they are cool, but the market is small, you would need a garage and a charger, but more and more insurance and HOAs are banning electric vehicles because of fire risk from the batteries.

Confirms Arcimoto is for city driving. Simply not enough range for freeway speeds and longer trips. Bummer.
@EVResource2 жыл бұрын
100% correct. This is an urban vehicle for sure!
@popeyegordon2 жыл бұрын
Some of us owners use it to hop on the freeway and go 70mph for 10 miles to work where we plug in all day. Long commutes and pleasure trips are no longer deemed sustainable.

@@popeyegordon Good to hear from a daily user. Ty for sharing. My employer offers zero EV Chargers and has offices requiring drives between Los Angeles-Anaheim-San Diego.
@popeyegordon2 жыл бұрын
@@tumbleweed1976 Sounds like a reason for your employer to restructure. It is an unsustainable arrangement unless they make it practical for you to use public transportation, a shared van or provide a sleeping room to reduce travel. Your state is enacting policy to discourage such abuse of personal vehicles or make them electric. We can't do this too soon.

A great adventure and a great range anxiety story I have had my FUV for almost a year and have never tried that long of a trip. In my owners manual it mentions extended range over charging that adds 20% more range. Read the manual for full information. Not mention in my older manual is a new feature for low battery emergency slow speed travel. You could have worried less...Check it out.
@EVResource2 жыл бұрын
Oh I wasn’t worried. I think maybe my message wasn’t conveyed properly. I’m a total nerd and I love going over the numbers! It was a very fun drive!
@popeyegordon2 жыл бұрын
The FUV charges to 90% before stopping unless you press the extended range option to get the final 10% which works fine but the 100% charge tends to shorten the total service life of the battery a bit. At this time we don't know just how much or how little that degradation is, if any. Many EV makers feature 90% charging.

As a new FUV owner with less than three hundred miles under my belt, this is fascinating. My first commute, a twenty mile trip, I burned fifty percent of my battery maintaining sixty to seventy mph on a SoCal freeway at 3am. Been getting used to the idea of sipping electrons and allowing more drivetime, as I get more familiar with the range and charge possibilities. Thanks for your efforts.
@EVResource2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, when I borrowed the FUV the first time I immediately went on the highway to see how fast it would go. Then I noticed the battery SoC dropping so fast! While I absolutely don’t like going so slow, it does end up being faster for longer trips like this. Wish the FUV had fast charging capability, that would change everything.
@bernesto24682 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the insane premise of this trip. One comment is there are higher current level 2 chargers so the Arcimoto limitation would seem to be related to the size (power level) of their on-board charger. It appears Arcimoto has ~ 20 kWh Battery pack and with a higher power OBC like 11-22 kW one could charge at a higher rate. As an aside given the stop and go nature of this trip if traffic had been heavier there might have been more regen braking.
@EVResource2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. If it charged at a higher rate AC, or even DCFC it would change the entire experience (for the better I think).
@bernesto24682 жыл бұрын
@@EVResource Inside the FUV is an On Board Charger (OBC) which sets the maximum charging rate, this accepts a Level 2 (220 Vac). Arcimoto could have a higher power (more expensive) charger, it is a design choice to shorten the charging time even without DCFC

What is the typical range at 65mph?
@EVResource2 жыл бұрын
At 65 mph you’d be looking at around 40 miles or so. Plenty for a nice commute to work and back, but definitely not for a longer trip.
@DPsmdg2 жыл бұрын
@@EVResource I think that huge difference in range shows how poor the aerodynamics of the FUV are. The Electra Meccanica Solo can go further than that at 65 mph with a smaller battery. I think the open cockpit of the FUV is to blame for the range dropping so quickly with speed. The passenger seat is just a giant parachute. You end up having the terrible aerodynamics of a motorcycle without the benefit of 2 wheel maneuverability. I wonder how much the half doors that arcimoto sells affect the range at higher speeds. I would guess they could add 10% or more range at 65 mph.
@EVResource2 жыл бұрын
@Bluesmudge from what owners have said, the half doors don’t make a noticeable difference. If I can get my hands on one with the doors, I’ll do some testing to see how it does. I’m curious too!
