Beautiful craftsmanship. As a Swede it's great to see our yards continue long traditions of boat building. Thank you Toby.

The oven tray 21:53 that fits in high & low positions in the sink is the bees knees & the hull windows look like they might be in the right vertical position for horizon viewing by a seated average height person. 22:33 Coriander is a herb often used in curries, not normally used to make counter tops in sailboat galleys. Nice review 👍.

22:33 He says "It's not Corian, but" 😂 Unlike coriander, Corian is indeed used to make countertops!

A new Arcona 50 - exciting for us Arcona fans. One of these in dark wood and dare I say it, hard dodger, and I'm off and thinking about not coming back. Toby seems pleased. Great review with the requisite dozen or so As Well's.

A Med-cruıser from a Swedısh brand? Beautıful boat. That chart table would be better wıth a back support. Beautiful main-sheet design on the floor (as long as it does not wear out the sheet)! Like the fake teak (sorry for my French). By the way, are there any respectable boat manufacturers left nowadays which still use polyester instead of vinyl ester? Too many push button controls. OK as long as you are in the north-west part of the world.

I really love Arcona for making nice boats. Unfortunately I don’t like this one as it looks like any other 50ft sailboat. Here I miss the Arcona lightness and a bit of traditional fast hull shape and layout. Now it looks like any other (French) product. Same happened with X-yachts.
@antoncarmoducchi6057 Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you've got a problem with sensible design given that the unparalleled success of French boat yards.

Diversification ensures there is something to choose. It’s not that I have a problem with a specific type or design. I just like that there are differences. In the other products of Arcona I can see they made and designed differently. Now the Arcona 50 looks like any other 50ft Benneteau, Jeanneau, and Solaris as example. Do you like to have a choice?

Imagine building a modern yacht that looks like a modern yacht and not modern yacht that looks like an older yacht based on outdated design. What were they thinking?

What a fabulous design! Neil’s Jeppeson is such a reliable designer. I have won several major events in his designs. My preference would be the deep keel and mast height (“P”increased by one meter) and maybe boom length “E” Extended by 1 foot. Remove interior items not needed for racing (tables, cushions, maybe some doors,) bottom paint sanded down to 400 or 600 grit, a little rating optimization, then go out and put the fear of God in the TP 52’s! A goal-oriented crew would enjoy getting the most out of this beauty that is a nice example of how much yacht design and construction has evolved. This boat will be so efficient and fun to sail upwind that if you decide to go cruising to Alaska it would be a no-brainer to sail as opposed to motoring. Then, return to Puget Sound to sail in the Swiftsure Race and Vic-Maui and help out the folks at the Lahaina Yacht Club.

WOW! Why did Arcona decide to chase the Beneteau type. What made them special was their Swedish ethos, not European charter type.

Very Swedish inspired interior is nice but sometimes can look a bit sterile front cabin being the exception. If it’s destined for med sailing would think a covered hood is a must . Otherwise it’s a bit ropey Toby.

The only great thing is the sink! It will drain on both tacks! How can you see the B-G from the helm? Scary open stern!

Yet another Scandinavian yard that has compromised their traditional values and rock solid cruising designs to make a piece of art instead of a practical boat. It has a wide open fat transom which clearly when you were in the following see it was wallowing like a pig. Going to be incredibly uncomfortable in any adverse weather to sail. I bet you’re glad the wind did die down when you were going upwind, I bet that that hull shape was going to slap like a tuppeny whore into that swell. Why can’t you have dinghy davits off the back of the boat? Why do you need to compromise the interior volume of the yacht for style purposes? Why can’t you have a closed transom? Why can you not have dinghy davits? I don’t want the dinghy in the boat, I want space in the boat, what a ridiculous stylistic choice. Most people may very well use these boats in the Baltic or the Mediterranean, anchored in the harbours, or in marinas. You cannot avoid the weather forever and eventually you’re going to have to sail the boat somewhere! Even if its only to get the yacht fixed and they have compromised the safety of everyone on board with that fat wide-open transom and blade hung Rudders. it’s a damn shame. How many more boat sales do you really need? Why doesn’t anyone look to change the market? Be a leader. Why is it that we are all so lazy and morally bankrupt that we have to fold in with everyone else simply to cater to the stupid self-indulgent desires of the average human being!? There were plenty of yacht builders who made gin palaces & Marina Queens. The world did not need an another Beneteau or a Jeannau. The world needs another island packet or Kraken. You’re building yachts that are dangerous outside of being marina queens! They are overweight racing hulls, built like an IMOCA! How is that comfortable, in a seaway or at anchor?

Why do all brands build this kind of boats ? Because nobody wants the kind of boat you seem to want. If there was a potential market, brands would built it. I speak about customers buying, not writing comments on YT. Just look at the sales figures.

Agree - I dont want to stand on top of ‘the garage’ to helm, completely exposed to the elements or clinging on to an uncomfortable side perch. I want to be snug and secure in a cockpit recessed into the deck & protected by coamings. This boat is neither fish nor fowl to me - not a racing boat and not a cruiser either. But each to their own, It would be dull if we all had the same priorities! For long term cruising / mission dependant - my hard earned will go on a well loved Discovery 55 (without in mast furling) a used Boreal or an updated 25 year old Swan 46 or 47. For med cruising I would take a 15 year old Grand Soleil 50 and pocket the 800k price difference! I was on a 70 foot charter yacht in Italy for a long stint this summer, it had a dinghy garage, which was a huge faff to use, so the dinghy was put on the foredeck for sub 48 hour passages ! It could easily have lived there permanently when not in the water.

Beautifully built boat but why can’t designers do something better with the interior? It looks cheap and caravan like…I recently sold my Jeanneau 41ds which looked far more expensive down below and more like a yacht!

Just another ordinary sailing boat.. Also regardless if you carry out regular engine maintenance or an emergency comes about, you would go through hell in such a tiny engine room.

Looks so cheap and without soul inside, more like one of those new apartments they built in less than a year, not like a boat.
