I totally agree with you regarding load bearing activity and for that reason I prefer to go overkill on boots and sole stiffness, I wanted to buy a pair of these for faster lightweight rucking/tabbing, they look great but I cannot deal with leaking and i have seen many reports of leaking on these boots more than any other boot and apparently the arcteryx acrux LT GTX boots have the same issue. As comparison I have had great experience with mammut alto guide grx which are still going strong after 5 years heavy use and using for building work too so they have taken a real beating and still fully waterproof however i will need new insoles and outer soles within the next year or two. Scarpa and Mammut are good alternatives to Arcteryx. ** Update: i pulled the plug and bought a pair, after 6 months of use laces broke, rubber came away from uppers and a crease hole developed. The boots were fantastic and fit so well, lightweight and good for running it’s a real shame they aren’t so robust. My review is on the Arcteryx website with pics. I managed to get a refund from Trekitt UK. I doubt Arcteryx would refund even on a warranty claim.

I agree. Also a big fan of the brands Mammut and Scarpa. While I luv my Arcteryx shoes, not a fan of these boots.

Incorrect. Arcteryx is super helpful, just e-mail them with a good explanation. I tore a pair of arcy boots last climbing season. Got a new pair, straight from arcteryx themself.

I'm British Military and these are the boots I wear to relax around camp. I've not had an issue with these in regards to them leaking. I have found these to be very waterproof. Before writing this I put them in the sink weighted down and still no water came in. Are your boots defective in some way...
@robertesell
@robertesell 3 жыл бұрын
Glad your boots are performing well. I did not have that experience. How long were these in the sink? With this material I don't understand how anyone could expose them to any moisture for long without being wet inside. I wear flip flops after I take off my hiking boots to help my feet relax. If its cold out I have insulated booties which are very nice for winter camp relaxing.

The leaking is a common problem with these boots. Not just some random defect.

@@123ChrisG mine are now over a year old and still no leaking. Wearing the wrong socks can give you the impression of leaking but it could just be sweating.

@Temüjin Adonijah I disagree. 25yrs service in the British Infantry and I had a guy tell me his boots were leaking,but wheni checked he had cotton or polyester socks on which caused his feet to sweat that much it looked like a big leak.

I am a HUGE fan of Arcteryx gear and have many of their gore tex jackets, pants, gloves, etc. and feel they are top quality and have performed extremely well. I don't know if there are good and bad batches of this particular boot, but unfortunately I have to agree. I have hiked in even post-rain very wet grass and my feet were soaking wet within a short time. I would sadly not trust these in a multi-day trip where rain or wet snow was on the forecast. I have high end Scarpa, La Sportivea, and Northface gore tex boots and for whatever reason my Northface are the best. So many seem to let water in around the tongue. These Arcteryx boots are only good in dry weather for me. I have Gor-tex Adidas running shoes that I use a lot and they have performed 10 x better than these Acrux boots. Sorry, I wish they were better. Happy for others who have had a great experience. Unfortunately I have not. Still a huge fan of Arcteryx other products.

Thanks for the feedback. Nice to hear of others experience. I also have been a huge fan of Arcteryx over the years and still do really enjoy some of their products such as jackets and shoes but not these boots. Cheers.

I would say it can be used for heavy loads. A lot of the equipment is military tested, and operational tested. I can see how a novelty hiker might get annoyed by its weight

ive a pair of garmont dragontail approach shoes they are unwearable in cold weather in the snow toes turn to ice ,,what are the Konseal AR like ?????? also the soles are hard and uncomfortable over even 5 miles???
@robertesell

This boot is pretty light weight so I would not consider it to be that warm. I used it in the summer before giving it away. I found it lacked support. For 5 miles it may be sufficient if your pack isnt heavy.

Hi Robert, I have a question. I have an older pair of Patagonia boots. I use them in NY winter for traction to A. Shovel the driveway every snowfall B. Drink hot chocolate in said driveway when done C. Walk on snowy, icy sidewalks to the supermarket to go shopping. I'm not seeking super-mega waterproof, but to have traction on ice/snow. Are these boots good for this? Thanks

Yes, absolutely. These boots would be totally fine for that.

I have to strongly disagree. There a 1000's of us thruhikers and backpackers that carry a 30+ lb pack for 1000's of miles for months on end in only trail runners and have zero issues. For anyone who is super strong and fit physically, this boot would be super capable with a 40-60 lb pack no problem.

Glad it works well for you. My video wasn't specific to "super strong and fit physically" people but my personal experience for the general public. My main guidance here was there are many better boots out there for the money.

Huh, great review and I really appreciate your opinions but ... I actually prefer a less rigid lightweight hiking boot and use these for that reason alone. I'm in the minimalist camp I guess. As for the level of waterproofing, I haven't really had an issue but again I've learned from years of experience to keep my feet dry. I'm always sceptical about Gortex or whatever materials are used to establish a waterproof shell. At the end of the day, my main concern is that my boots are completely dry in the morning!!

For sure. I think everyone will have a different experience and this was mine. If you like a more minimal feel then these could be good for you for sure.

What would you say is the best lightweight 8” or greater shaft boot that is fully waterproof (gore tex or other)?

I wonder if the Aerios would-be better for heavy loads?..... I returned a pair of boots immediately for the same reason I walked through dew and was soaked in the so called waterproof boot...... I think something needs to over take gortex hype people just repeat and lie on reviews singing praises is things like gortex reading what it says on the tin as though it's Gospel as they tout for business from companies as they claim and hint their not sponsored costing people fortunes they listen to them and buy

Yes this is a super light weight boot that really doesnt do well for anything other than a brief hike in easy terrain.
