PROBLEM: I had issues with clumping even after following these instructions as well as other similar instructions from other manufacturers. Turns out the city water feeding my washing machine has a lot of limestone mineral deposits. The hard water left microscopic minerals mixed with the down which prevented it lofting properly. FIX: I installed a 5 micron inline water filter made for washing machines ($50 off Amazon). I also dissolved 1tsp of borax/1tbsp baking soda in 1 cup of warm water, pouring the mixture into the bleach holding tray of my front loader washing machine. This mixture supposedly softens hard water by preventing minerals from clumping together so they tend to leave during the drain cycle instead of hanging around in the goose down. SUMMARY: Using the 5 micron filter along with the baking soda/borax mixture worked beautifully! My "Enlightened Equipment" top quilt and Arcteryx jacket came out of the dryer fully lofted with no dead spots or clumping. So YES, the water quality makes a big difference when washing.

@nazgulzg6 жыл бұрын
When you're drying your jacket, just put 2 or 3 tennis balls in your dryer and your jacket will regain fluffiness.
@cxssetteman1823 жыл бұрын
When you wash again, don't use Detergent, as it probably still has some inside (which is the reason why it isn't fluffy anymore). Once you've rinsed it, Press with your hand to remove excess water, don't twist it. Then put it in a Washing Machine Dryer for twenty minutes. Take it out, massage it with your hand to remove clumps, then put it in the dryer again for 20 minutes Repeat this process 3-4 times, and you should be good. If you get a lot of Sun, then you can try tumble Drying 2&3 times, and leave out in the sun (turn it inside out to prevent fading). That should be good.
@oldgit322 жыл бұрын
For a long time, literally hours of tumbling I thought, "it's not working", with loads of clumps, but I kept going and miracles started to happen. Now I reckon the lofting is even better than when I first bought the jacket - is that possible, I wonder?

@__-pl3jg4 жыл бұрын
basicsurfer08 - Seriously though...As far as underarm odor goes, shaving my pits DOES get rid of odor for me personally. If you use a deodorant cream called "Lavilin" right before bed you wont need deodorant for about 2 weeks in winter or 1 week in hot weather. Even longer if you're drinking apple cider vinegar each day. The best part is the Lavilin cream is the most natural deodorant on the market and it works the best (which is rare). I think the main ingredient that works so well is grapefruit seed extract.

Hi Danny, We recommend machine washing in cold water on a gentle cycle, and tumble drying on low heat on a delicate setting. No bleach, no ironing, no wringing it out, no dry cleaning! We recommend spray-on DWR treatements (after washing) such as Arc’teryx Nu Care Products ReviveX® Durable Water Repellent Fibertec Blue Guard Spray-On. You can find more information here: www.arcteryx.com/product-care.aspx?country=us&language=en Cheers!

air drying won't do it. you won't get the fluffiness back. When using a drying machine, those drying balls or tennis balls are necessary to regain the fluffiness back.

If you airdry, it might take 4 days to dry out, and even then it isn't a guarantee. The best is to tumble dry 2-3 times, then you may leave it out in the sun for an hour or two.

MF SHECKS - As long as you wear a base layer of clothing so that the jacket never touches skin directly the down wont absorb your body oils for a long time. I wear my Arcteryx jacket almost every day through winter and I find once per year is fine. But I live in Texas so the winters are shorter. If I lived further North I would probably wash twice per year.
