Incredible video!! Especially how you capture the stage changes! Arctia caja is one of the most beautiful butterflies/moths in the temperate climate of Earth, in my opinion. All stages look impressive.

Hello Adam, right now we got 11:23 h pm where I live (Lauterbach; Black Forest Germany) and the outside temperature is - 11° C when your video appeared en YT. So, I watched it, and it was like a bedtime treat for children, something sweet, which I enjoyed very much. 👍 Hoping we shall get a good season this year. With best regards Rüdiger

Hi Adam! I'm catching up on your videos. Just watched this one and, as usual, it's SPECTACULAR!! My husband and I are avid butterfly and moth lovers. Your filming is amazing. Thanks so much for sharing these with us! To see the process of tiny caterpillars hatching, molting, pupating and then going through a complete metamorphosis is absolutely awe-inspiring. Nature at its best. Hope you are well. Going to watch more of your videos now. Regards from Philadelphia, PA. ☺❤☺

I'm writing my bachelors dissertation on these beautiful creatures. In the UK they're down 92% (due to global warming, so we can't really do much for them) and heading north. They like it cold, hence the fuzziness. This video made me realise why I'm doing what I'm doing all over again.
@groszek13you5 жыл бұрын
Hi Big Guy! In Poland, I also observe a significant decrease in the population of this beautiful moth. The areas in which there were extremely popular and wandering hairy caterpillars were observed in large numbers in June and July. the moths often flowed into the light in the houses. For several years they have suddenly disappeared. I obtained the eggs of this butterfly from a female caught from the Bieszczady area (Bieszczady National Park in South-Eastern Poland). I wanted to document this species before it can (let us not) lose it! Southern Europe is deserting... It's beautiful that you're doing a scientific job on this butterfly. I'm very happy about this. It is a pity that so few are such wonderful people. I envy sometimes that in Britain this approach is respectful to nature. Adam
@abigguy83645 жыл бұрын
@@groszek13you I would say that only strengthens the theory that they are declining because of global warming. Sudden drops in places as varied as the UK and Poland (and keep in mind that the most widespread butterfly populations in the UK barely interact with those in the Netherlands) can't be a coincidence. Could I ask as an aside if you would mind my using stills from this video in discussion of this moth?
@groszek13you5 жыл бұрын
@@abigguy8364 Hi! Regarding Arcia caja, apart from the disappearance of this butterfly in Poland, I also observe a significant number of caterpillars infected with parasites, mainly Tachina. I am happy to agree that you will use my film and fotos for your scientific work.
@abigguy83645 жыл бұрын
@@groszek13you I read that they're at risk from parasites. It's still early enough in my writing to incorporate a little bit of research into Tachina, if it's a problem. Thanks for that, I'll obviously reference you.

I have a black mulberry tree in my garden and there are many moths at this time of year. I have tried to find out exactly what they are and have been told they are Garden Tiger Moths, but appear different to those on this site. I have also managed to take a photo of a caterpillar and will try to upload pix of both. I have not been able to catch the moth in flight but it does have the bright orange under-wings when in flight. Please confirm what species these are. Thank you. I have never used KZbin before so can someone please advise how to upload my pix? Thanks.
