I have it on good authority that the entire Arctic will be free of ice by 2013. Um, wait.
@rps1689 Жыл бұрын
Well no one ever in mainstream climate science ever made that claim. Brings to mind a projection by Maslowski, where Arctic sea ice could be expected to vanish in late summers only by some year in this century. The range was 2015 to 2070, but for some reason the "climate skeptic" bloggers only heard the 2015 part.

@@rps1689 I watched Al Gore state this with my own eyes and ears. And while Al Gore is not a "climate scientist" he was quoting one and the entire climate movement hangs off of every word this influencer says. So you are living in denial.

@@anthonymorris5084 Al Gore is irrelevant. I'm all too familiar with the fools that read the deniers' version of Gore's comment to Maslowski. His gaffs and the oversimplification of the temporal relation between CO2 concentration and temperature; and the over emphasizing of the near corner of sea level rise projection was annoying. The subject was that the summertime shrink would be gone some time BETWEEN 2015 and 2070. Not by now. The "climate skeptics" lied and stated the documentary said it was “predicted” to occur by 2015. There are several clips of that description bouncing around conservative opinion media, always chopping off the part about 2070 but leaving in the part about 2015.

@@anthonymorris5084 What is more annoying is “climate skeptics” and deniers that lump actual mainstream scientists into the category of known politicians and activists that are not even scientists and deflect on to them when they can’t state where objectively defined experts are wrong or why.

@@anthonymorris5084 I saw with my own eyes and ears that he makes it clear earlier in the story that he's talking about sea ice not the Greenland ice sheet. Gore's gaffes don't count. Giving away all those giant redwoods to a person who chopped them down to get out of his junk bond debt. Derailing the case against Microsoft Corp. @grindupBaker The Arctic tree line 200km further north than today, tells a different tale of it being warmer in the recent past. Models are only as reliable as the data that goes into them and filling in the gaps can be adjusted any way you want them to produce any result your research grant funding steers you towards for your predetermined answer, you paymasters want...or else no grant funding in the future for your next 7 year project. In Greenland, archeologists are still uncovering Viking settlements as the ice retreats, buried by snow and ice for 600 years, where crops of grain were grown to feed livestock. from 980AD until circa 1500AD when they were forced out by the advancing snow. Maybe the Vikings had coal fired power stations, gas guzzling 4x4 chariots and diesel powered boats?

This is extremely concerning going forward. Dr Meyer makes very clear points about the Arctic and Antarctic sea ice. Of course he left it open as to what to expect going forward especially in the Antarctic. This slow growth in Antarctica sea ice is particularly ominous and more data will be needed to draw a more conclusive projection of where this going, but it doesn't look good. In the Arctic the multi year ice is virtually negligible and compared to 35-40 years ago multiyear ice dropped to the about 3 %. This could set up the Arctic for another big drop in late summer extent. My biggest concern is not only when that happens, but at what point does the winter sea ice not recover to anywhere near normal. The next decade is likely going to be a big change in exactly what we have been concerned about. A year round low in Arctic sea could likely result in a greater overall atmospheric warming and further destabilization of the Jet Stream.

What's missing is any data before 1979. The 1930's was as warm as it is today and there is actual evidence of the Arctic treeline being 200 miles further north.
@michaeldeierhoi4096 Жыл бұрын
@@Sjb-on5xt Well that is definitely bull shlt. In the first place any warming in the 30's was regional and not global like it is now and further it was much more short lived. There is no way to prove a negative here. Or to put it another way there is no evidence to support what you claim. Have a good day.
@Sjb-on5xt Жыл бұрын
@@michaeldeierhoi4096 Yes, the treeline in North America and Russia was 200 miles further north is very regional to the Arctic circle. The tree stumps are evidence that trees survived there during the Holocene Optimum. Trees today won't grow that far north. What does that tell you.

Interestingly enough, the solar max has been increasing and will peak about 2024. In addition, the volcanic activity in the west Antarctic area has been increasing over the last several years, which would explain why the deep ocean is warmer and causing the ice shelf to melt from underneath.
@gregggoodnight9889 Жыл бұрын
Good points. Have you read Jim Kamis' book discussing geological impacts on climate? He reviews recent information on the quantification of hydrothermal vents and active volcanos under the west Antarctic ice sheet. To me, a key is the relative amounts of ice in east vs west Antarctica. Treating Antarctica as a uniform entity can be misleading.

Sea level rise is the least of my concerns, the biosphere is what's really worrying me. Add ocean acidification to the big problems we got, and no one talks about it. Silence is also propaganda, it means all is well, keep consuming.
