Arctic 21: Disappearing Glaciers Across the Americas

This month, we are focused on mountain glaciers, from both a policy and scientific perspective. Dr. Bethan Davies is a Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography at Newcastle University in the UK. She is the lead author for two papers that were released last week on the long-term pattern of glacier retreat in the Western Hemisphere, specifically Alaska and the Andes.
Dr. Davies specializes in reconstructing glacier dynamics over multiple timescales, from both field and remotely sensed data, particularly in the Antarctic Peninsula, Europe, Britain, Alaska and Patagonia.
She used a combination of methods to place the present-day retreat of glaciers in Alaska and the Andes into a long-term context, highlighting their rapid acceleration to today’s high rates of ice loss. Dr. Davies is also the developer of the award-winning Antarctic Glaciers website (www.antarcticg...) as part of an ongoing commitment to outreach and education.

Not very many living earthly creatures drink ice. As the 11,600 yo natural interglacial period progresses (the rational would hope) there will be more rain (a.k.a. potable water) not less.
