Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Mararagi it's going to have very little to no effect on the temperature. Think of it this way, ac,s fridges, anything like that don't make cold air, they just move hot air somewhere else. In this case, it would, at best, move hot air back into the same area it took it from. It will literally only feel cool in front of it. (This same concept is why leaving a fridge open and running will actually increase the room temperature after a while)
@jeremiaheliott32895 жыл бұрын
The ambient air does have an affect on a evaporator unit. And ac units use gas and super heat that becomes a liquid and causes a cooling affect. So yes knowing the ambient temp would have been nice. Or the humidity level
@johnlopperman21615 жыл бұрын
@@LilOleTinyMe It won't ADD remove heat as heat is Removed by evaporating water, NOT just moving it about.
@tarstarkusz5 жыл бұрын
That is not its purpose. They make larger room size swampy coolers for the whole room. This tech only works in extremely dry climates. Where I live in the summer humidity is usually in at least the upper 80s and when it gets really hot humidity is nearly always over 90% Under those conditions, it would make the room more uncomfortable. But in Vegas where he lives, running one overnight would likely drop the temp by 25F. The phase change of the water from liquid to gas has a property called latent heat (literally hidden heat). It takes energy to evaporate (phase change) the water. A swampy cooler works because when you blow air across water and some of that water evaporates, it "consumes" the heat and hides it in the phase change. The heat is then released back into the environment when the water condenses back into liquid.

Without this I couldn't, I'd have to turn on the AC when the temp hit about 85. This saves on AC bills. It puts out 75 degree air when the room temp is 88.

i was too, bought 2 in the summer of 2018 and they were practically worthless; the fans were so weak that they needed a booster fan in front to make it seem cool at all. The ultra is only good enough for a small kitchen though. I spent close to $100 for the two of them in 2018. The next summer I bought a Honeywell evaporative cooler for $200 it was FAR BETTER. Could cool the whole downstairs family room. I spend practically all of my time in this room. This $200 evap cooler was in lieu of a service call on an AC system that was installed in 1982, though.

i purchase the Artic Air Ultra approximately 2 months ago. It is a great addition for cooling a small location, we are in a 35 amp RV park, so we can only run 1 AC with the Artic Air allowing me directional cool air sitting in living room, at the dining table or when cooking it helps alot. Only issue is the filter suppose to only last 3 - 4 months, and I have experienced a slight problem with mold. I clean the tank at least weekly, with a white vinegar diluted solution. And yes, ice cubes are the best!!! I have 2 units, one in the bedroom.
@rleon81832 жыл бұрын
Look people... this is just bogus. Heat in a room is trapped on the walls, in your furniture, everything. You will need to cool everything in order to start feel cooler. That requires A LOT OF ENERGY that this little tiny swamp cooler can ever achieve. If you want the room to feel cool - then good luck, it's NOT going to do it. If you just want cooler air blowing on you, well that may do the trick. But don't think this is an actual AC replacement.
@Random_44008 ай бұрын
A proper air conditioner moves the heat energy outside so it's far more efficient but does use a lot more power, however i have one of these and the newer versions of these mini "personal air coolers" aren't actually terrible, they definitely do work as far as cooling you down if you sit in front of it and it's definitely colder then a fan especially if you add ice/freeze the filter so advertising it as a "personal air cooler" isn't really wrong in any way, of course this is not by any means an air conditioner and will not be cooling for your whole room by any significant extent so don't expect that from it, but it doesn't advertise to do that it claims to be a personal air cooler which it does pretty well for what it is.

A few things you missed to mention: 1) Room temperature to begin with. 2) Humidity (%) 3) What was the temp on the $10 Walmart fan? (For baseline comparison). 4) Temperature blowing out of the Arctic Air at 1, 2 & 4 hours. 5) For the geeks in us, what is the power consumption in watts? Ok, so there are some improvements, is it worth it? My only concern is, how would this do in warm and humid Central Florida? In the Summer? I wonder if I can have a second filter alternating and cooling in my 12V Danfoss Compressor RV Fridge in my RV Minivan while the other one operates. I can also add some ice.
@christopherpape48234 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same it'd probably be pretty cool, no pun intended, if you had a constant rotation of frozen filters and ice. But now that I think about it does anyone know if the refreezing of the filters and water would basically cancel out their cooling aspects provided by the above contraption? As in refreezing the freezer is basically just talking the thermal energy that accumulated in the the warm filters/water and throwing it back out into the room? I guess if you kept on using new cold water from an outside source like the tap that would actually work for adding water to the filters at least. And I guess it would also help to use new cold water to make ice, though the water still has to be frozen so it's still not perfect. I guess in summary continuously freezing and reusing the same filters and water for ice would be pointless, no? Hopefully that made sense.

Why did you not tell the room temperature? Worthless showing output temperature without the ambient.

Have you tested the humidity output?

These are just evaporative 'swamp' coolers. You can get similar results with any generic ones, or even just draping a very thin cold wet towel over a fan. They dont actually cool the air, they increase humidity, which helps us cool (hence why our body sweats). The only actual cooling that is done is if you use a freezer or use colder than ambient water. Not saying the product is bad, but these are just marketing an old technology. If you live somewhere where its already humid, they wont do anything. Also due to the use of water and open air, as well as filters, you need to clean them from time to time to prevent mold.
@michaelp92385 жыл бұрын
Increased humidity does not help with cooling. These work by evaporation which is a cooling process (such as sweating). These will not work well in a humid environment because evaporation is limited.

i purchased this product based on your review and it is a total crap. it releases cold air for exactly 10 minutes and that's it, with the filters previously kept in the freezer

Thanks u answered my question. Was wondering how long it would blow cold air. 10 minutes not worth it.

Did you check the power requirements to see maybe why the limited power of a USB was a problem with the new improved fan?

Its trash! I mean they say freeze and it gives u a good 6 to 10 mins of cool air IF UR LUCKY. After that u got yourself a mini fan with a night light.

Interesting differences. I actually did like my original Artic Air until it absolutely quite literally disintegrated. Case leaked like crazy and eventually it stopped even turning on, logic board failure. Its twin sister died within a week of the first one. I will give the Ultra a try since it's quite different with many improvements. Thank you for a great and thorough review. Your Emo hair test gets a big thumbs up from me 😁👍

I bought the original last year. I live in New Mexico where it is nice and dry and I have no air conditioning. This little thing sitting on my desk was a life saver. I use ice in mine. I purchased a couple filters for it. Once those are used up, I will upgrade to this newer model. This will not cool a room down, but when aimed towards you, it will keep you cool. By the way, I can move the leavers on the original, there is just not a handle. Just carefully move the leavers themselves, if you put too much pressure, they will snap off, but you can snap them back on.

This product might just be a slight cooler than the usual rotating fans that we put on table next to our bed and give a cool breeze. Get a air conditioner to get rid of humidity.
