Arctic Monkeys - Despair in the Departure Lounge (GAMH - March 13, 2006)

I was at this show in march of 06. One of the first Arctic Monkeys shows in the States. Still to this day one of the best shows I've ever been to. The energy was palpable. I was right in the front on the left side of the stage (Alex's right). Their bassist at that time (Andy?) was having technical difficulties in the middle of 'Perhaps vampires is a bit strong but...' and Alex spontaneously broke out into this (new / unheard at the time) tune. The crowd was loving it, as was I. I had a feeling I was witnessing greatness, but who could have possibly predicted their success that was to follow. If I remember correctly there was this 1 guy who kept yelling "Mardy Bum" after every fucking song, until finally (inevitably) they played 'Mardy Bum'. I saw The Strokes a couple of weeks later (Also in San Francisco) and there was some chick doing the same thing, except she kept yelling "Barely Fucking Legal!" After every song. I had never been so happy to hear barely legal in my entire life. Anyhow, kudos if you've read this entire aside, and I suppose the point ultimately is that I wish I had a time machine to take me back to 2006 lol.

I love how such a soft song ends, everybody cheers and then Alex just shouts "All you people are vampires!!!". Awesome!!!

I love how far away the look on his face is when he says what's happened to me and then the crowd screams and he just moves on. It just seems like a very real moment for him that gets ruined but he's still able to jump in and keep the energy going.
