That was probably a proud day for the Arctic Police. Not only did they get to arrest four people but they got to meet Superman and see his home before he imploded it with his heat vision. Needless to say the last forty years have been a little slow.

I know for the Richard Donner Cut, Donner himself wanted as little Richard Lester footage as possible. Only the footage that was absolutely necessary for a complete story remained. Infamously Gene Hackman refused to do any Lester reshoots out of solidarity for Donner's unfair firing. With that said, this is obviously Donner's footage. For the life of me I can't figure why he still cut this from his version. Without this scene it makes it appear as if Superman destroys the Fortress and kills Lex Luthor inside! If it was for time/pacing purposes it really isn't a good enough reason since this was a home/DVD release.

Superman called the arctic police before he set up his trap. It was his plan to depower them all along, because he knew he couldn't take on three of them. His original plan was only to depower Ursa and Nonn, and defeat Zod afterwards, but then Luthor came along and Superman saw an opportunity to get rid of them all.

I actually like it better without the music. Makes it feel more like the film is slowly coming to a close. But good job, still. I really wish they'd re-insterted this moment into the Donner cut. I love Hackman's Luthor. "....And I'll bring you along as a boxer!" He just doesn't know when to quit. And in the end, I think even Superman ends up being bemusedly charmed by the diseased maniac.

Even when I saw this in the summer of 1981 with my parents, I wasn't sure if the Kryptonian villains were dead, and didn't care because I was cheering with everyone else that they'd been defeated. But I like the confirmation that they were left with a fate worse than death: powerless, off to prison for either life or until they were executed for their many murders, and knowing they lost everything to a much better creature than themselves.

I was part of that audience leaving the theatre as a child, and I never once thought they died! I know they fell down the hole but into what? It's open to interpretation, but when the facts reveal what actually did happen, then it's reasonable to assume your assumptions were wrong. Knowing this Reeve/Donner Superman, I never thought they died, I thought they got banished to some weird place, because of all the weird stuff about the FOS.

Well, whether it is the Donner or Lester cut, they are never to be seen again. With no food or water and in freezing temperatures, they surely died. They absolutely died in the Donner Cut once Superman destroyed the Fortress. Ironically in the Donner Cut he wanted as little Lester footage as possible, but we know this Arctic Police scene is Donner's footage because Gene Hackman infamously refused to shoot any Lester scenes out of solidarity. So this scene is inexplicably cut from the Donner version and it makes it look as if Superman kills Lex Luthor too!

I think they missed a real opportunity by not doing something like this. It would have been deeply satisfying to see the three villains locked up - particularly Zod, after all his posturing and egomania. Imagine a post-credits scene where we see Zod as a convict in some scummy prison where he is a total wimp. It would have been the funniest thing ever.

So, Zod and his crew drop down a pit in the middle of the Fortress of Solitude only to end up outside and with the Arctic police just moments later *outside* of the fortress? So, Superman just so happened to have a water slide in the Arctic that conveniently slid the villains to some spot just out of our view to the police that just so conveniently were directed to Superman's supposedly secret Fortress of Solitude? I know there are strange things that can happen in a superhero movie, but I see some big ass pulls right here.

@dyrokudobane
@dyrokudobane 9 жыл бұрын
David Wellens I'd prefer the 'magic fortress slide' to have some introduction before just randomly appearing _out of nowhere_ for plot convenience, or just dropping Zod into a pit that's not so bottomless - the latter isn't so farfetched. It's not like Superman hasn't killed before in the comics, or that he wasn't acting like a jerk after he got his powers back in the movie (he basically beat up a truck driver that gave him problems from before)- Golden Age Superman was particularly douchy. Added to that, there still is no practical explanation towards why the Arctic police should be able to find Superman's Fortress of Solitude. I mean, even though it isn't necessarily covered up, it's supposed to be secluded from humanity (hence solitude), yet the police find the exact coordinates! Did Superman give the coordinates over the phone beforehand? Was there a beacon going on overhead while he was tending to Zod and his cronies?
@Radi0nFE
@Radi0nFE 9 жыл бұрын
There was a passing of time in between the last time we saw Superman in the Fortress and before they come out and the villains are arrested. It should be obvious from the footage. Superman has killed before -in the comics indeed- and I'm more than well aware on the entire debate there, including the history of it all. But the problem is that in the movie universe (prior to the MoS reboot) he hasn't. That's why the Arctic Police scene is so important. The passage of time is there to suggest that Superman himself contact the police, either before going to the Fortress himself or when coming back out of it with Lois beside him.
@dyrokudobane
@dyrokudobane 9 жыл бұрын
David Wellens That's fine and all, but Superman would still have needed to have given out the exact location which, in retrospect (mainly a viewer that didn't know Superman could just travel back in time) would have been a bad idea (giving away his secret hideout just to have the police conveniently at his door) - Superman had to destroy his fortress as well as all of the information (such as artifacts of his home world). Superman could have just put the villains in jail himself after they were de-powered but the police really couldn't do anything if the retained their powers and probably would have been in serious danger (unless they somehow have some serious weaponry to combat full-powered Kryptonians).Such saying, it all is a little more campy than it shooed have been.
@Radi0nFE
@Radi0nFE 9 жыл бұрын
Which is why it's safe to assume he wanted to depower them from the start, since that was the only way of defeating them without killing them or sending them back to The Phantom Zone (technology he didn't have). Keep in mind that Superman was forced to destroy the Fortress because LUTHOR knew where to find it. This has nothing to do with the police. The Kryptonians braught Luthor along when they went to face Superman. He was forced to do it by outside interference. And also note that the arctic police scene was cut from both the theatrical AND Donner Cut. You can't put this scene in context with the rest of the events that transpired there, because basically, this arrest never happened.

I think this whole "Superman killed the villains" is a new concept among the younger generation. When I was a kid and saw the movie, I always thought they went back to the Phantom Zone. And then around 1982 (I remember it was before Return of the Jedi came out) when they showed it on television, this scene was put in, so it just confirmed to me that they either went to human jail or the Phantom Zone. I grant you, looking back on it now, it was cruel and unnecessary for Supes to crush Zod's hand, but I NEVER thought he would casually kill someone, nor would Lois (who punched Ursa)

I liked the scene and felt it should've been included. It shows what happened to Lex. As far as the U.S. Arctic Patrol being there? Superman fled to the Fortress, to take the battle away from Metropolis. He knew he would have to eliminate the villains powers, to defeat them. From his comments on Luthor being a "lying weasel"; Superman planned the trap ahead of time. As part of the plan, he contacted the Arctic Patrol, to arrest the villains.

Still say, considering the stupid scenes that REMAINED in the Donner cut, Donner really can't complain about how it turned out. Not only the stupid scenes at the cafe, but especially THIS scene. The "Arctic Police," indeed! Some of my friends were convinced I imagined this scene for a while. Just exactly where does Donner think the Fortress is anyway? After all, regardless of which cut you accept as gospel, the powerless Superman STILL somehow makes it back to the Fortress ... from New York (?) ... ON FOOT. As does Luthor and Miss Teschmaker. So, in the end, too many people have to KNOW where the Fortress is by the end of the second movie. Only in the Donner cut does he destroy the Fortress in the end (which becomes royally academic in the later movies). I miss the giant key. :-)

For the record when I first watched Superman 2 I never actually thought that the villains were dead. I just thought they were stuck down in the lower area of the fortress of solitude. It wasn't until people started going on about "superman killed zod in superman 2" that I realized the scene could be interpreted that way. But we don't get direct confirmation of his death so as far as I'm concerned, zod's fate is ambiguous and the fact that this scene exists probably indicates that any implication about Zod's demise was unintended accidental.

The scene that all people who think Superman killed Zod deny existed. Not only did Superman not kill Zod there is no indication he did kill Zod in the version without this scene. All you see is Zod disappear down a shaft through some mist and there is no dialogue to confirm he was killed. The reason why is because this scene was supposed to reveal what happened to Zod but was cut out. The other version of the film leaves Zods fate ambiguous it does not confirm or deny Zod was killed the only answer is in this scene.

You know I have nothing against the kill scene in MOS. My problem with it is that the film completely undermines any effectiveness and emotional impact it could have had with how stupidly executed it was, and how it was mostly forgotten for the rest of the movie. In Superman II, whether he killed or not. They did at least did something with it. Also there's a huge difference between snapping a person's neck, committing genocide, and destroying an entire metropolis compared to just tossing a person down a small pit into an ambiguous fate.
@Argumemnon
@Argumemnon 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, there's a huge difference: one was done out of desperate necessity, and the other in cold blood.
@nunouno001
@nunouno001 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah desperate necessity. He decided to save three random people after willingly exterminating his entire species and killing tens of thousands of people, by killing zod when he could easily blocked his vision or just knocked him unconscious. Christoper Reeve Superman might have been a murderer (even though he never killed anyone.) but even his crimes don’t compare to Henry Cavill Superman. Also at least he’s not a complete idiot. Well to be fair he was an idiot in Superman 3 and 4, but that was mostly the writer’s fault. Just like this whole mess was David S Goyer’s fault for startling this whole controvestly and forcing this complaint on superman 2. Let me tell you something, the fact that both Supermans killed is not the problem. The problem was the buildup and context of the scenes in each movie. In the original Superman, he is firmly established as a watchful guardian of Earth who will selflessly act to save others at the expense of his life. Though he is still flawed as a human being as he does desires and needs that makes him act flawed. Such as his love for Lois and the desire for a normal life. As such he gives up his powers to gain, but because of his willing blindness he ignored Zod’s conquest of Earth. Now I will how he just regained his powers was LAZY, but it fits the thematic purpose of him going fourth to repent for his action by defeating Zod and the other criminals. In the end, he remembers his purpose and status as a hero to protect the people of Earth. In the end, throughout the entirely of the movie he was always motivated to protect the people he cared about and the world he grew to love. And again all he did was throw Zod down a pit, how cold blooded and maniacal that was! In Man of Steel however, there is never any distinction or idea made regrading Superman's hesitation to kill. It comes out of nowhere and was never established. As a result that just the brings question, why didn't he just kill them from the beginning? There is no connection established here, and that idea is further undermined by the fact that he willingly partakes in plan that he knows will kill thousands of people, engages in battle that destroys most of a city that kills more people, and let’s not forget he destroyed any chance of his species ever seeing the light day again. What did they not deserve another chance at life, according to this superman, no they didn’t. At this point I no longer have any sympathy for this character and his actions only leave two interceptions to the mind. 1. Either he does NOT care about the world and people around him, that they are just an expendable force to him as he is concerned. Or when its convenient to the plot. 2. Or he is an idiot since he missed the blinding and painfully oblivious. Would the action scene had been less poorly filmed, boring, and bombastic if it took place in the sky or space? That is really the problem of Man of Steel in a nutcase. It is just so poorly written and directed and the murder scene is the least of my complaints, I mean I could go on and on if I wanted to. And just to be fair Superman 2 has its problems too: The effects are outdated, outside of Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman no one really delivers a good performance, it suffered from huge tonal shifts as a the result of change of directors in production, and the campiness can get overbearing. However Superman is at least redeemed by the fact that it embraced is charm and universe instead of rejecting it, while also providing a more honest and true interception of the Superman character. Man of Steel is just incompetent, if it was put into anyone else hands it would have been better. But no we got the duo of incompetence with Goyer and Snyder instead. Here’s how I would have done the movie and kept the murder scene. Have Superman defend the city from the very beginning to show that he does care about humanity, at the risk of his own life, even if it means he will be weaken from the krypotian air and will be outnumbered. From there the military takes out the airship, but Zod escapes and takes Lois captive. From there Superman kills Zod by accident to save the woman he loves and to stop Zod from killing more people. There Done. If that happened, I and others would have found the situation much more tolerable and understandable, since there was an actual connection established and the character is much more likable. Especially if the movie actually remembered that scene instead of just making a stupid joke about drones. But instead we just get more incompetence. Who knows maybe the sequel will be better, but considering all the desperate fanboy pandering and mismanagement in production and casting. I doubt it. But hey I’ll be happy to be proven wrong. But Man of steel will still suck for the reasons I gave( and more unmentioned) and no sequel no matter how great will make up for it.

nunouno001 Yeah he saved random people. He didn't genocide anything. None of those "people" were even born. It was just genetic information. If the Kryptonians were allowed to colonise Earth, with or without "terraforming" it first, it would've been the end of mankind, so Supes made a choice out of necessity. And it's clear you can't just knock Zod out. Earth has nothing to contain him anyway. There was only one way to stop his rampage and the movie made it clear. The flick has a number of issues but I don't get why the fanboys are so focused on that one scene. you know... this isn't the "redux" it's in the Deleted scenes in the bonus features section of the "Donner Cut". The actual Donner cut doesn't have this scene in it. ANd there are no scenes which show the villains alive and well clearly between the scenes they are in the fortress and this (deleted) scene where they are hauled away without close up or explanation. Often film makers make extra scenes to rework a plot, or try a different take and then, if they like the direction it's going in they might try a script rewrite, or fill in with additional scenes. No such connecting scenes exist for this scene, it is obviously a "maybe" idea that never came together, and was rejected by both directors and the studio. ie: it is trice damned non canon and is not indicative of anything Superman would or wouldn't do. It is instead a scene with actors wearing costumes, reading lines and doing so in a way that everyone agreed after doesn't belong in their story about Superman.

I think this scene should have been included in the Donner Cut. In that, Lex says "I got a proposition for you!" and it just cuts away to Superman laser-zapping the Fortress. This scene provides what that "proposition" was and is the only way to provide closure to Lex's part of the story. Heck, even in the Lester Cut they had Not-Gene Hackman say something like "Could you drop me off?" before it cut to Superman flying Lois to her apartment.

***** I didn't make the movie. What belongs in a movie made by a person is what the person intended to be there. The fact that the scene exists but it was still cut at the director's unmanipulated direction tells you that it doesn't belong. As it pertains to Superman as a character. I think it's an ethically sloppy golden age style concept of a scene in a silver age movie. (Superman killed incidentally all the time in the golden age). But it demonstrates that even the most popular and sacred depiction of Superman in public awareness includes drastic measures. Superman has dealt drastically, violently and even mortally with Zod three times at least: SM2, the 80s comics featuring a parallel world Zod and MoS. This depiction is the most debatable because this scene was filmed and thus casts doubt. But it should also be remembered that Donner intended the earth-time-turn-back for AFTER this death, thus undoing it. So Donner didn't intend Zod to BE dead, but he intended him to die (or very nearly: suffer terribly and possibly mortally and at Superman's hand) but live because time-travel gives Superman god-like power over fate. This is why I prefer post-crisis Superman better. He's Super-Man, not god-man. If he kills it hurts his soul so he avoids at most any cost.

***** in both Donner and Lester's (theatrical) cut, Superman depowers all three, then crushes the bones of Zod's hand and throws him in a deep ice-pit whose absolute depth is obscured by fog (but one can hear his yelling continue at an increasingly lower pitch as if falling a great distance). The female was punched by Lois and she fell in the pit. The third one tries to fly and falls in. We see Superman and Lois leave. Then in Donner's cut he turns back time and undoes the whole film.

***** not necessarily, the way his fragmented and unfulfilled comments before their exit leave things off makes it clear that he was SUPPOSED to exit (no such implication is made for the Kryptonians). It's a classic film plot hole that arises from Donner never getting to really "make" Superman 2 (he filmed a lot, much of it when making Superman'78), before being fired, and was made worse by Lester not being a good enough director to complete it on a completely logical level.

@@Batman88878 🙄"Why would they leave the scene out unless they wanted them dead." 1. It's the weakest of the ending scenes. 2 pacing. Why would they shoot the scene if the fall is fatal?? Why would they film them alive but not film them dead? I could rest my case there. How much do the dimensions of a set piece change if you delete a scene??? This is the most hilarious one. Your saying deleting a scene magically makes the fall fatal by retroactively changing the set and/or dimensions of the fortress. What kind of magic is this? So if Donner deleted a Marlon Brando scene at the fortress of solitude would that mean spikes would come out of the walls offscreen and kill Lois before they could sleep together? If we delete the scene of Superman flying to the fortress does that mean it never happened? If so does that mean Superman learned to teleport to the fortress with Lois? Or since the scene would be deleted did they die and get ressurected to end up back at the fortress? How does that work? 1. Do they die in the script? No. 2. Is their footage of them dead? No. 3. Is their footage of what they fell onto? NO. 4. Is there a scene of the villians alive afterwards? Yes. 5. Was this scene of them arrested aired on televisions worldwide for decades? Yes. 6. Did Reeve say no one died? Yes. 7. In this scene are the 3 villians being carried out on stretchers? No. 8. *Is there anything that indicates the villians are even in injured at all?* No. the bottom line is if you honestly believe Lois Lane in No danger whatsoever murdered URSA while Superman stood their and smiled then you literally missed everything about this story and this film. Go ask Richard Donner why he made Lois Lane a murderer in Superman 2 and he'll be on the floor laughing. Christ man the whole point of the ending is Superman going back to the fortress to out smart them and set up a trap. One they are depowered he doesn't even need to kill them so this narrative makes no sense. Lois the murderer 😂

nunouno001 I m sorry i don't understand your comparison saying "it's like saying batman forever is the best batman movir". It doesn't make sense in relation. Superman 1 and 2 had terrible writing. Both movies were filled with sever plot holes and inconsistencies. How did he know throwing the crystal into the Arctic would create a fortress and how did he even decide to go there? It's so random that he just decided mine as well go to the north pole. Forgetting the fact that spinning around the world to turn back time is stupid, if he could travel that fast why didn't he go that fast to stop both missiles? If he turned back time why did the earthquakes still take place? In superman 2 he gave up his powers to be human even only after being superman for like a week? That's very un superman like. He basically said screw humans I'm more important. The mos version was the superior version. He sacrificed his people and home planet to save earth and the humans. Also what's up with that memory erasing kiss and superman plastic shield he threw? He kissed lois plenty of times in both movies yet none erased her memory. Also he was whispering into lexs ear about tricking zod into getting into that chamber. Zod has super hearing , kind of a dumb thing to whisper when he can hear everything
@227060
@227060 10 жыл бұрын
I don't even see how it hasn't aged well and more than that even if it is dated...So....What? EVERYTHING dates. No one one Earth has ever made anything ever which has never dated. Frankly criticising a movie for being dated is a worthless criticism because if it was good for the time then what more can we ask of it? How is a film supposed to INTENTIONALLY be good for audiances which might see it 30 years later? You can only ever make any product as good as can be at the time you are making it. Yes Superman I and II had terrible writing. THAT'S why they introduced and established Superman as an icon for new audiences. THAT'S why It, you know, STARTED all these current super hero movies. What precisely outside of wacky comic book science was 'terribly written' about the first 2 movies exactly? Please enlighten me. Please tell me how it was terrible writing for Superman's dad to die of a heart attack when he was incapable of saving him as opposed to on MoS where his dad dies because he didn't see a fucking tornado in the middle of the road, decided to go back and save his dog, insist HE do it in stead of his super powered son and then also INSISTED his son let him die for no real reason other than allowing him to be a terrible Uncle Ben analogue. And remember that terrible writing where Superman was motivated to you know, BE A HERO because his dad told him he was here for a reason which was subtly making him into a messiah figure? Man that sucked. Thank God in MoS his dad tells him to NOT use his powers and to probably LET school children die and all so that later on he can do the crucifixion pose 2 or more times and STAND under a stain glass window of friggin Jesus. Because that's expertly SUBTLE writing. And thank God MoS has NO plot holes or inconsistances. Like how it took Clark years to hone his powers and adjust but Zod needs like 5 minutes. Or how Zod wasn’t sucked into the Phantom Zone. Or again how his dad died. Or how the national news believes the word of a fucking internet conspiracy theorist as gospel? Compare that to...actually name the exact inconsitancies and plot holes in the Donner movies? Q: How did he know to go the Arctic circle? How did he know about throwing the crystal? A: The crystal guided him there the same way it guided him to find it in the barn and probably guided him to throw it because it is sentient as evidenced by the fact that it could create an interactive version of his father to talk to him. How he decided to get to the Arctic isn’t really important. Driving, walking, running, air travel it’s academic. Q: spinning the world backwards is stupid A: Yeah it is. You know what else is stupid? Trying to persuade the guy who’s grown up on Earth to join your cause by telling him you’re going to kill everyone on Earth and using the visual aids of a million skulls in the ground Q: If he can travel that fast why didn’t he stop both missiles? A: because he needed to build up that speed and also HE CAN’T BE IN TWO PLACES AT ONCE! Seriously 2 missiles in opposite directions (after he’s been weakened by kryptonite) how is he supposed to stop BOTH of them at the same time? Q: if he could turn back time why did the earthquakes still take place? A: They didn’t. You clearly see that all the damage Superman tackled was reversed. Why didn’t he do this before. Because his dad forbade him to interfere in human history and that was probably wise since it would cause a lot of problems both temporally and morally Q: In Superman II he gave up being Superman even though he’d been Superman for a week? A: No he didn’t. Where the Hell did you get the impression he was Superman for a week. In Superman I alone he had clearly been acting publicly as Superman for much longer than a week. Add to that the fact that technically he’d been Superman since he exited the Fortress of Solitude in costume but hadn’t gone public yet and I am guessing that between then and developing his Clark Kent persona and obtaining a Daily Planet job more than a week had passed. So you’re criticism that he’d only been Superman a week holds literally no water at all. And don’t talk to me about what is an isn’t un-Superman like if you’re claiming MoS, the film where he levels a fucking city and murders a guy, is a superior film Q: “He basically said screw the humans I’m more important” A: Yeah he did. That’s the whole fucking point of the film. Superman makes a human error. And rectifies it. That’s the crux of the moral argument the film is trying to get across. But he made a big mistake due to his feelings for the woman he loved which is a human flaw that’s been made since literally the dawn of time. Q: Why was he whispering in front of a guy with super hearing when he’s trying to trick them? A: Because he WANTED them to hear his trick dumbass. That was the whole point. It was a double bluff. He wanted Zod to find out that he was planning on getting him into the Chamber so instead Zod would stay outside and ZOD would lose his powers. The plastic shield and memory erasing kiss were stupid I grant you but they were not originally intended in the original cut at all. As for why he didn’t erase her memories clearly it’s a power he can control the same way he won’t just destroy a door every time he turns the handle. “The mos version is superior”. Yeah course he is. He just murdered a guy, killed countless people in a fight (all unnecesarilly) and sacrificed...a bunch of murderers who he cared absolutely nothing about and wanted little to do with. And he chose the place he grew up on. Yeah no shit he made that choice, it wasn’t a big fucking sacrifice. Contrastingly Reeve’s Superman had to give up the life he wanted with Lois to serve a higher purpose, even going so far as to remove her knowledge of his identity which would’ve made things easier for him. It’s fine if you personally prefer MoS but don’t lie about it saying it’s better than it is or lie about the Donner movies claiming them to be worse than they are. That is the height of disingenuousness. As is the fact that you blatently either ignored or are ignorant of the movies since I easily answered all your ‘questions’ going off memory alone.

Sorry man you're 100% wrong. There are a plethora of literature and film works that don't age but instead stand the test of time. Ever hear of the term "timeless classics"? It refers to works of art that stay til the end because of how influential and relevant they will always be. Citizens kane, wizard of oz, Shakespeare, the godfather, Hitchcock movies... All of these are masterpieces that will stand the test of time. By your logic the Adam west batman is amazing because it was made for that time. It's terrible writing for supermans dad to die of a heart attack given only one scene with him. We didn't get bonding or any actual time spent with him or got to see the relationship devolop. Superman didn't learn crap in the reeve movies. His solution is "well I screwed up and couldn't save lois so I'll go back and rewind time so I can do it better". Mistakes are what make a hero a "hero". He doesn't evolve or learn when he can just undo the stuff he messed up. The mos jonathan Kent was far better and more influental. We saw his interactions with Clark thought his years and the lessons he taught him and it made it that much more tragic when he died because we spent time with him and grew to know him. His went into the storm to save the dog because, I'm not sure if you paid attention, but cars were flying at him. If Clark went in and got hit by a car he'd be fine and everyone would have seen that. If his dad went in and got injured that wouldn't be questioned. He went so he wouldn't put Clark in a position where he'd have to use his powers. Yes his did request his son not save him because that's the whole point of the movie...The world isn't ready to see what he can do. One scene where his dad tells him to be a hero doesn't equate to being motivational. There were way more factors contributing to Clarks decision to become superman in MOS as opposed to the original superman. The original was like "well my dad died, better become a hero and out on tights" where as the MOS version was " well I can either hide or do what my dad said and died for and when the time is right stand in front of the human race proud or to hide. Then zod forces his hand so now he has to show himself to the world in order to save it". I don't recall Johnathan telling his son to let the kids die I Do however remember John saying that maybe...He doesn't know. All he knows is that he wants to protect his son at any cost just like any parent would do. This comes back to the tornado scene and it applies to john. Clark can't expose himself in order to save anyone not even his dad and so jonathan sacrifices his life to keep his sons identity. Not sure if you've ever read a superman comic but there are always religious connotations in his comic history it's nothing new nor has it ever been subtle so I don't know why you act surprise. The story itself is a retelling of jesus Christ. Again I don't think you watched the movie. It addressed what you're complaining about. Clark said he took years to hone his senses but since zod is bred to master is senses and skills he can do it considerably faster. It said that very thing in the movie. Why would zod have been sucked into the Phantom zone when he was no where on the ship when it was pulled in? He was in the crashed ship on the groud. I don't know what you're referring to when you say his dad died. Again it was explained in the movie what you're complaining about. They FBI went to the daily planet to ask perry if lois knew anything that's why he called her. Also she's a pulitzer prize reporter and the article had her name on it, why wouldn't anybody trust the news when they have the evidence to back it up? Well considering the movie never even hints that the crystal is sentient or alive there is no evidence to back up your claim. How is zod telling Clark the truth stupid? Clark already knows he betrayed krypton and his gut tells him zod isn't to be trusted so why would Clark believe anything zod would say if he lied about not wanting to kill the entire earth population? You just contradicted yourself. First you say he can't be at two places at once then that he is able to travel fast enough to travel across the world to turn back time. Superman is going about light speed (180,000 per second) he can travel around the entire earth 30 times in a minute he can definitely be at two places at once considering one missile was heading to California the other new jersey which is 3,000 miles apart. the earthquakes most definitely took place. Watch the movie again. When he rewinds time and goes to meet lois she says " you know what happened to me while you were flying around? I was in an earthquake, I had this gas station blow up next to my car, there were telephone poles falling all over the road and I was almost killed." This is verbatim. The earthquakes certainly happened and that's a fact. Uhh watch the movies again Mt friend superman 2 takes place immediately after superman 1. Superman 1 takes place in a 3-4 day time span. Sorry but wrong again. Watch MOS again. Zod levels the city not superman. Yes there is destruction but the vast majority of it is due to the world engine. Also... It's a comic book movie! I take it you don't read comic books especially not superman ones because if you did you would know that this thing happens all the time. You would also know that superman has killed several times in his history. I'll put a link to those deaths after this comment. Yes he blatantly murdered zod. He did it to stop an innocent family from being killed . unlike the reeve version where he takes away his powers, breaks his hand then throws him down the ice cliff. The mos version was justified not the reeve version. I like how you're picking and choosing. So when the MOS version makes a mistake you hate it but when the reeves version makes a mistake you defend it by saying "it's a human error that's the point" If he wanted them to hear then he wouldn't have needed lex to run over and tell them, they would have heard it. Superman could have a relationship with lois with powers he does it countless times in the comics so I don't see the need to make himself human. How is preferring MOS lying? I don't think you fully understand what an opinion is. I'm not saying it's fact that. There's no reason for me to lie.

With the power to do that it makes it so any mistake he makes can be undone. And I don't care that it was always supposed to be in the 2nd. It's dumb. I still like both movies but hate that aspect of them. Though the memory erasing kiss is dumb too. I also like MOS but to each their own. I actually prefer the more modern Corrupt Businessman Luthor to the one in these movies.

I can certainly see why they cut this terrible scene. But I guess there were enough people crying about superman having possibly killed someone back then, too. Maybe MOS will have an extended scene where they show Zod being taken away on a stretcher wearing a neck brace.

En esa escena solo se ve encarcelado a Lex no a Zod y a sus secuaces

Tiene sentido porque es absurdo que revivan a Zod y su gente para ser arrestados

Pete Puebla Without it. It appears as though in Richard Donner cut that Superman just left Lex Luthor inside the fortress and destroyed it with him still inside.

Well MOS DOES have the charm of a wet paper sack and is about as fun as watching paint dry. That's saying something.

Robert Troch Mos is far more charming and truer to the comics plus it took itself seriously and not dubiously

Well it ruins the movie. I'm glad they took that out of the final cut . The Arctic police thing is cheesy.

Plenty of cheesy moments in the Reeve movies. I wouldn't say any of them completely ruin the movie.

Allowing zod to live is really disappointing. He was a cold blooded killer. It was so cool superman crushed his hand and tossed him away like trash. Allowing him to live is just awful which is why they removed it.

Completely agree. A lame and utterly absurd scene. Who called the "Arctic Patrol"? There goes his secret location of the Fortress of Solitude! Unfortunately to many, Superman I and II are peoples mythology. So the new Man of Steel doesn't fit neatly into that box, and they call it a suck. Get over it. Not at you M4ST3RP4C3, at people who can't stand to see "their" Superman immediately be the boyscout.

So??? He did kill 3 kryptonians and if you will try to convince my that Zod falling into the chasm without his powers could survive I will laugh...whatever this ridiculous "cut" shows...Superman killed Zod and he smiled about it.
