I'm repairing a small sundeck that has 2 small dips about 1/4" deep. The deck has plywood and some of it still has old fiberglass. I will be using primer and deck coating instead of fiberglass. I bought some floor leveling compound and it says not recommended to use over fiberglass. There is some fiberglass and some wood where the dips are. Can I still use the floor leveling compound if I first coat the fiberglass with primer? If so, what kind of primer would you recommend. Also, how thin can the floor leveling compound be? Does the floor leveling compound crack after it's dry? Can I use body filler to feather out the edges of the floor leveling compound after it's dry?

Or, better yet, simply install a temporary form board (coated with release agent so the material doesn't stick to it) across the entry and pour enough material in to level the floor, It will self-level. I've done it with other brands and it works fine.

It should be put down and allowed to dry, prior to installing FLEXBONE. It should be installed at 1/4", you can't apply to a feather edge because it is a self-leveling product.

@@ARDEXAmericas Can you sand the edge to a feather finish, or apply another patching/leveling product on top of this. We only want to apply the minimum amount necessary. My local Ardex distributor is telling me the primer is not needed, are they correct? Would this eliminate the need for an uncoupling membrane? It seems to me that the flexbone should be adhered first and then leveled, what keeps the plywood underlay and SLC from behaving just like an installed tile without uncoupling membrane 15-20 yrs down the road?

I figured after a few months someone would stumble across my bad humor. To seriously answer the question, the fact that you can start tiling 6 hours after pouring this stuff I would think is the most "revolutionary" thing. From what I understood (and I'm no pro, so this is just from what I've gathered in my DIY experience) I thought backer board was still used in the past over leveling compounds, but this stuff does away with it (assuming deflection is within specs).

Is there some way that this would have to be rubberized before it can be used over a crawlspace so it doesn't crack as the wood expands and contracts seasonally? Also some of you guys must have an amazing, supernatural skill set if you determined that this plywood flooring was perfectly level by watching that video!?! I've NEVER seen a perfectly level wood floor on a job site. Ever. Close enough to tile without liquid leveler, maybe. But not flawless.

Hi Calvin, I forwarded your question on to our technical team. Unfortunately , we do not recommend additives be used with our LBB product to make it more flexible. While hairline cracks will develop after installing self-leveling underlayment, when the approved wood substrate is well fastened, there is no concern for debond of the underlayment. If you have additional concerns and questions, please contact them directly at 1-888-512-7339. Thank you!

Why not demonstrate this procedure on a substrate that doesn't actually need leveling? Try it over a concrete floor after ceramic tile was removed and trenches for plumbing were cut in etc., then we'll see how easy it is. It can still be done but it's not as easy as in this video. I've done it, lots.

It cost $30 then pay the tax, $32.40. It only covers about 3 feet by 1 foot. It only has a depth of 1/8th inch at that coverage. You'll need about 20 bags to level 1 room @ $32.40 per bag. About $648 dollars. If that room has a dip of 1"inch. IT dries fast, so you lose a lot in the bucket. You are better off with leveling the floor with mud and hardibacker. This stuff can get expensive fast.

Not sure what you are talking about. In 2019 it's about $50 a bag and covers 65 square feet at 1/8. A 12x15 room would take about 3 bags at 1/8 inch. Beats the time and back breaking work of putting in all those screws then taping the seams. Plus it's level. For me the greater cost for materials is worth it plus the end result is better.

Baddd example youre leveling a new plywood subfloor..dont see the purpose of extra leveling..i would like to see this review on a crocked or not leveled floor😤
@LosDog145 жыл бұрын
This example is to demonstrate liquid backer board versus traditional cement board application. As you can see, the liquid version is much easier. Cement board would have to be installed with modified thinset underneath then screwed down. AFTER, the cement board is installed there is absolutely no guarantee it is flat and/or level. So this video is a perfect example. I have installed kitchen/bathroom floor and walls for 24 years. I have never used Ardex Liquid backer board and yet I can still see why this would be a better way to go simply because you get the added benefit of a flat/level surface to install over. YOU ARE DOING 2 THINGS AT ONCE! Would you rather install cement board then go back and level all the waves and low spots on the floor? Hell no! I would much rather use a product like this one. Zero cement board to install with a self leveling component all in one application. Mario, you clearly are not an installer and missed the purpose of this video. And no, I do not work for or represent Ardex in any way shape or form. Cheap route = cement board obviously.

How do you know it's level? What method do you use to ensure that you have a level surface before it dries? A laser level?
@da_stanktank42769 жыл бұрын
+Doctor Doom It is "self-leveling." It's made for floors that only need to be leveled up to 1 1/4 inch. Once it's dry check it with a level. If it isn't perfectly level you can slap a little extra mud onto your tile before you set it, and level it up then. But, not all of your tile should require this, just a couple here and there, if any at all. If your floor requires more leveling than 1 1/4 inch you should apply the first layer of leveler, and let it set-up/cure. Then apply a second coating on top of the first.

Just because plywood is level, does not mean the original sub-floor, then floor will still be after after 30 years to 100 yrs. I've pulled up pressed wood with a poured chip floor up to get to my sub-floor and the humps and bumps are horrible. I go for an overkill anyway, but this will go down after my plywood and before the backer board, just to be on the safe side. Ex put down plywood in front bathroom, didn't check level and you feel like you're going to fall off the side of the toilet.
