Hello, very good video, I hope it wasn’t too early in the morning! Hic hic……….I’ve had a bottle of Ardnamurchan open for months and I cannot get away with it, the first few pours seemed ok, I was getting mint, but it’s gone, and I don’t get anything now, albeit I’m a rank amateur, enjoy your trip

Got bottles of the AD/02.22 & AD/09.22 which so far are the CS releases. Was also expecting more too? Think if the casks were held till they were 12 they would be much better. Had 3 different bottle dates of the Campbelltown Loch (1 light & 2 dark) and as long as you can get it for enough less than Springbank 10 I'm a fan considering what SB & KK are costing today.

Th CL is fairly priced. Just could not find an amount of water in the CS that made it any better

I liked them both, but maybe because for us in Australia they are nearly impossible to get. So, maybe I convinced myself that they were good. I am half way through the Campbeltown Loch and still liking it. Cheers

It is good for the price (here).

The tastier one seems to be the Ardnamurchan. Thanks you two excellent Scottish Videos. Ciao 👋 S.

The Campbeltown loch you tried last year was probably one of the initial batches. There’s been a huge batch variation with the more recent batches being much more sherried. I’ve just finished a bottle of batch 1 and I’m not sure there was any sherry casks in it at all.

Time in a cask is worth something. Time in the glass too. Once I commit to a bit of water I usually don't expect much on the 3rd day. 24 hours sometimes is really good though. I would love to try an Ardnamurchin cask strength but buying new make is just not a high priority for me. I would like to see the Wolfburn distillery and how they're getting on up north. The Cask Strength Langskip is hardly with $90

We really disliked the Kilkerran Heavily peatead and this CS kind of went tin that direction.

@@WhiskyMystery the KK is something, rich deep luxurious flavors is not it. I opened batch 7, and I wouldn't say completely tin but almost. Unfortunately when I open 6 I expect it will be more. My first Wolfburn was only $40. I'd pay that for young quality but 75+ is going to be predictablely disappointing

The peat in the ardnamurchan is very obvious to me along with salty licorice. Maybe time for a peat reset? 🤪

Have not had any peat for a month :-)

Campbeltown Loch needs to open open up. I was not impressed with it at all until after a month a few pours out of it and it and it became good but I'm not surprised because Springbank and Glengyle stuff are usually that way. Mine is the July 2022 bottling. The more heavily sherried version is more complex and more Springbank-ish to me. For $55 each I can't complain. the sherried version is probably to dirty sherry-ish for you but it's perfect mid sherried to me and not over done and saturating. It tastes older also. i would guess it between 10 to 15 year and the regular tastes like it's 8 to 10 year at best

You are right it was better about a week later at another friends

@@WhiskyMystery J&A Mitchell stuff is always better after a few pours are out of it and some air time. I thought the Campbeltown Loch was mediocre the first few pours and then I let it sit for over a month and it became kind of the best bang for the buck malt currently on the market. $55 at Remedy here in Cali

Fascinating that both bottles have been getting rave reviews and then your experience is like the breaking of a spell. Has there been too much hype perhaps? Is there an echo chamber effect from KZbin reviews?

You said you wanted to see if it improved overnight. Then an idea hit me. You guys don't like bourbon very much, maybe go on a bourbon mystery and see if there's a bourbon that you would actually put on the shelf. Blind tasting of course. 😁

Interesting...Blend is a kind of Art, I believe, and while they were very strong on some of the first releases, and show a lot of potential, AD's owners should be careful about the cask mix & the choices of what they release imho...and age is no excuse, when you have almost 2 times younger single malts from other new distilleries doing great....So they can do great, but they have to survive the hype & the temptation to push too quickly some boundaries instead of perfecting their craft, but I could say that too & even more for Isle of Raasay, personally....The future will tell...

Agreed. I would not buy another based on this one

Hi Phil and Deepa. Really enjoying your videos ‘on tour’. Looks like you’re having a great time and the weather is really holding up for you….. rather unusual in the UK ! I’m a real Ardnamurchan fan and been drinking their releases right from the start. My whisky journey started about 3 years ago. I have a large collection but tend to buy most of my bottles in the £40-£80 range and you can get a lot of great stuff for that. You tend to drink a lot of far more expensive whisky (watched all your blind tastings) and I just wonder if your pallets are more honed to that quality of whisky. Who knows 🤔….. I bet if I tasted some of your whisky I would absolutely love it and might have to up my purchase limit. Both of you enjoy the rest of your holiday and look forward to your own whisky purchases reveal 😃

Well we had Benromach organic tonight and it was so much better. Characterful and full flavored. Probably about the same age and a bit cheaper. Craigellachie 13 also doing more for us. I have taken an AD sample to try again at home.
