No, Starter motors are designed to work for few seconds only. They will burn if you keep motor on for more time.

Battery voltage should be 24v. Ah value will decide the capacity. More the Ah, more the runtime. If it is only for project purpose you can get smaller one or DC power supply also works good without any battery.
