This works most of the time, but sometimes not. He says at the end 'if your connection is not good'... The reason that it's not good is that there is nothing to ensure each pin is touching the hole. They weren't designed to work like that. You can improve this using a weak elastic band making a triangle trying to pull the non-connected ends of the adaptor and mini together. Now you are using the spring in each pin to make it touch the hole reliably.

For those who can't upload sketches to pro mini using the cable: You can upload the sketch via UNO. Connect UNO to your PC (using the USB cable), then connect UNO to the Pro Mini using these wires: UNO Tx - PRO MINI Tx, UNO Rx - PRO MINI Rx, UNO Vcc - PRO MINI Vcc, UNO GND - PRO MINI GND. On the Arduino IDE sellect PRO MINI as the board. When you click the upload the sketch button, you must hold down the RESET button on the UNO board. Just when the Arduino IDE finishes compiling the sketch and begins the actual upload, you need to reset your PRO MINI by pressing and releasing the reset button on your PRO MINI. Remember the hold down the Reset button on your UNO during the whole process (from compiling until the upload has finished).

i just got a pro mini 5v and i only have one row of pins on the side with the button , the one in this video has 2 rows of pins on the side with the buttons , i thought these were all supposed to be pretty much the same but how come he has a n extra row of pins and i don"t? also will the FTDI in the link in the description from banggood work well with windows? it sasy not original chip i have heard that there are problems with ones that are not original chip, not working or bricking from the software i need it to program my pro mini but also want to flash some lixada h801 led strip controllers

I have a slight program, I bought an Arduino pro mini and a ch340g adaptor, I programmed the built in LED, and it worked great. When I came back to use it the next day though, when I try to upload a new program or update the current one, it just carries on using the blink program, is there any way to reset the Arduino?

why not use nano, direct usb connection, buy the mini then the costly adapter, have one mini used uno to program it worked only once now it takes forever to load the program , so loaded the bootloader with success, but still no sketch is getting uploaded.

Can I disconnect the arduino pro mini and the FTDI once I have uploaded the program? I want to know if I can just, upload the programm using the FTDI and then use the Arduino pro mini without the FTDI or they need to be always connected even when the program is already uploaded. Thanks

no nothing is as it is the video or any other video don't waste your time with this shit it is all fucking garbage and you have pretty much no chance of getting any of it to work if you use windows i could have hand blown my own vaccum tubes and made my own tube transistor computer to do what i want , blink a few LEDS or build a mechanical switch in all the time i have wasted trying to get this garbage arduino shit to work , don't believe the hype, arduino and rpi hucksters just want to sell you useless shit that you will never be able to get working unless you are a CS major the boards will not load sketches at all in windows the software is buggy AF and never works EVER been up till 3 am every night of the week trying to just load the damn example blink sketch and it does not work it sucks

Your question shows that your experience is lacking. The 9DOF is a board that interfaces with a microcontroller, and it controlled by the microcontroller. That microcontroller can be an Arduino or a PIC, or a Raspberry PI, it depends of where your experience is. I would say that your experience is nowhere yet, but if you stay with it, you will eventually get where you want to be. Google is your friend, use it to educate yourself. The answers you will get with Google, all depend on your questions. The more you know, the better your questions will be, and the better your Google searches will get. Good luck

You can program the pro-mini the way he showed you here, or you can use any other arduino board, and use it to program a standard Atmel chip (Meaning the MCU on the Arduino). MCU means Microcontroller Unit) There is a sketch in the Arduino IDE that sets up the arduino as a programmer. I have used this method to write the boot loader to a bunch of Atmel MCU chips I bought from China that said they had the boot loader, but they did not. This was a very good video. Most things that are done with Arduino can been done in more than one way. None are wrong, some are easier to do than others, so if you are shown an easy way, the other ways may be more complicated. If you are good at searching Google, you can find all the ways that you can program an Arduino, or a stand alone Atmel MCU.

If you are using a usb cable w/ftdi from spark fun, what programmer do you tell the program you are using? I tried to program a pro mini and nothing works and I tried all programmers and boards. I set rts on close in the ports as mentioned by spark fun. Nothing seems to work with this cable! Thanks for any help you can supply.

Super video, just what I needed - good info and simple setup ;-) But sometime my computer (Win7 64bit) halt when I make a upload from the Arduino IDE to the CP2102UART/PRO mini, and I have to reboot the computer. I now down adjust the buffer size and transmission rate for the UART - hope it will fix it.

+william sobral Because you use one USB/serial device for all of your pro minis, and the pro mini is smaller than the nano, as you remove the USB/serial device when you use it. The USB/serial device is only needed for programming. There are other reasons (lower power, etc), and then there are times you'd want the nano. As I'm still at the hobby phase and most of my stuff is on breadboards, I like the Uno or Nano still. But could see wanting an even smaller one when I get to wanting to use it in the real world. ;-)

Except, if you want to be technical, it's not the "arduino pro nano", the arduino nano small version of an arduino, while the arduino pro mini is a small version of the arduino pro (www.sparkfun.com/products/10915). So they don't have to make sense relative to each other.
