An interesting mechanical failure that could have been eliminated with a couple extra grams of plastic. That's the difference between a home owner brand and a pro tool.

Back in 1973 I worked in a tool shop for a short while, they sold black and decker drill amongst other things. A lot of the drill would get brought back after a short while burnt out, on one occasion when the B&D rep was in he told us that some of the B&D range motors were rated in seconds and others in minuets depending on the grade after that only the higher rated ones were stocked, some were still brought back but now we checked the numbers on the drills as it turned out people were buying the cheap ones at Woolworths breaking them then buying a good one from us and coming in a few days later trying to claim their money back. As there was not much difference other than serial numbers in those days it was easy thing to do for the unwary.

Tennyson sure was generous in his assignments of roles to to other people- "It's not your job to think about shit, now go do that thing that will get you killed that you were told to do cause dying so the people in charge don't have to is why you exist" and, let's not forget Kipling and his impassioned support for taking on the "white man's burden"......... They were both writers in service of a racist and ruthless exploitative evil empire and if your dad didn't like you for who you are that kinda makes him a dick.

And somewhere here is a metal one from the 1970's that still chooch's a treat! (And that's in spite of a bit of sparkiness at the brushes.) But it probably lacks some of the stuff to keeps the angry pixies at bay if anything goes wrong with the electricals. Flextures instead of some kind of slip bearing or bushing on the one in the video seems doomed to fail at some point.

Sparks just means it's receiving power correctly! Better than the day you don't see sparks anymore!

Those flex posts will fail fast if you use alot of downward pressure while sanding which reverts vibrations from the base to the internals instead of the target surface for said sanding.

Unfortunately sanding is a big part of what I do for a living, so I understand the need for a proper functioning sander. But black and decker? Built to last long enough to afford another. I ran over my old Matco DA a couple weeks ago on accident. I can't get all of the odd vibration out of it, but it still works after replacing the pad. Built to last many years, and able to survive getting run over by a full size Dodge pickem up.

This is a question; not necessarily a suggestion, but when plastic parts get flimsy like that, would it help to rough up some surfaces and fill in/reinforce with epoxy such as JB Weld? That might stiffen up something flimsy, no? Let me know what you think.

My bet is that as wifey got used to the sander, she’s been pressing harder to get the job Done quicker. But these crappy detail sanders just don’t work when you apply to much pressure

I have one of thoose little sanders, I bought it for a single use... To get into a few hard to reach places for a single job last year. Got a crappy little cryobi on sale for.. $15 or something. Does what it's supposed to, haven't used it since. I use a 150mm (6") Random Orbital Sander for my sanding needs usually.

While in school one of my EE professors was telling us he worked for a power tool manufacturer and a dirty trick the company would do is add resistors in with the motor to make it draw more amps on the label but still use small cheap motors. His point was rating a tool by how many amps it draws is not a good way because you can easily scam people.

I just came home drunk, with a backpack full of beer glasses. And now I' m watching this vid while opening tax letters telling me that I should get money back from the government. Surprisingly life is pretty good right this moment and I'm glad you're all part of what caused that.

Lived in Tempe AZ for two years, had to drive through a dust storm once. Like a blizzard, but more orange and less slippery. Can confirm it as a god forsaken, sun blasted hellscape.

Random one mate didn't know how to ask you but I love your sticker (not to be operated by fwits) made my self a few when I first seen them. Now I got a few people asking to make them some at a small cost. Would this be a problem with you. I understand fully if not and ill gladly forward them to a link of yours to purchase. Thanks
