I got all 32 base figures when they first released and even now, on my 3DS, they all work and update perfectly fine, I don't think there is much to worry about as of now (unless your dipping them in a jar of mayonnaise)

My most played Skylander is Stealth elf From Spyros Adventure and I play with her 95 percent of the time since 2011 on all games and she's still going strong. So I dont entirely belive they're all breaking. To contrast, my first every Wildfire from Trap team stopped working after about a year when I got it. Now it could be faulty tech most likely, but considering its a much younger skylander is concerning compared to the first ever skylander I bought.

My series 1 Sonic Boom stopped working, but I was able to fix her in Giants. Giants has a fix toys feature. I would suggest trying to repair any broken Skylanders there first ^^

As if so far none of my skylanders have decayed yet, I had them sense swapforce came out for example I have a thumpback that I used non stop when I was young and it never broke or bugged or any other thing like that, I feel like my figures would prob break before the chip in it decayed. Note: Please don't listen to what people say face value cause then you prob just keep it on you're shelf forever and become over protective of it just be safe with you're skylanders and cherish them. :D

The ONLY Skylander that ever "died" on me was Hammer Slam Bowser, which doesn't work as a Skylander or amiibo. Dang, Zelda music would go great with Skylanders!

I recently bought a Scarlet ninjini and I was shocked when I put her on a tested working portal and she didn't get scanned. This was the first time I had ever seen this ever and I was so pissed off that I asked for a refund and had to buy another one

I’ve only encountered one skylander that wasn’t working, it was a Kaboom back in like 2015 or 2016. Given that it must’ve only been a year or two old and I got it second hand, I highly doubt that the chip died like it was “supposed to”

I actually think that data corruption may be the real culprit to the NFCs dying and not the chip itself. The 20,000,000 scan limit honestly is a very rough estimate that isn’t a very good representation of how a player may actually use a skylander. That test was conducted by constantly placing and removing a skylander from a portal, which probably resulted in a data corruption (after an absurd amount of time mind you) because of a random error in the game itself likely from frame lag or some kind of overflow. And for those saying, “but it scans almost every second!” It does but they were likely smart about it. The portal probably only is programmed to add new data to the NFC when constant gold or xp gain ceases for a few seconds to maximize the NFC’s lifespan or when the skylander is removed to avoid bugs or lost data. I’ve seen online that many skylanders with “NFC issues” can get fixed by resetting them with specialized programs. And even if you do have a physically damaged NFC (which is entirely possible with how carelessly packages are shipped sometimes) it is possible to make an NFC card and place it in the figure’s base to essentially renew the figure.
