One of the big gotchas is that some run on 5 volts DC and others run on 9 volts DC. I've seen numerous people fry the electronics in a suitcase player by plugging a 9-volt (or higher) power supply into one designed to run on 5 volts.

Quick tip if you get one of these and it starts turning off and on again, I had the same problem. I just opened it tighten the screws onto the spinning part and got rid of a few cobwebs and start working like brand new. You’re welcome if this helps.

If you connect any one of those things to a receiver and speakers it will sound great.

It's great to see side by side design, features, and sound comparisons between those various suitcase players and interestingly enough, those Crosley record players sounded better than the rest with fuller, warmer sound. :)

Similar but difficult. Some mechanisms may interchange, but some might be slight different.
@yodoglover400 Жыл бұрын
I've done that. Some of the connections have different pin counts like on the speakers and the main board. So they won't work always..

I have the $30. VIBE SOUND. I can promise you that after 7 years, it has NOT ruined any of my records. It's great for when I want to pull out SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (1977) . I also love the late 70s to early 80s retro look. The sound isn't the greatest. But it's good enough. Don't do people a disservice. Let them try out vinyl less expensive turntables. They can always upgrade later. Nice video!

I know that my cellphone speaker is just that. A cellphone speaker. In spite of that, I think the Christmas record player sounds the best. Have a good rest of the week, my friend.

Far as I know they all come from the same factory in China but built to company specifications
@sinnersucksatgamingsp92286 ай бұрын
Might be true but you have no idea how many companies do that. Look at tequila for example. They all say "handcrafted in mexico" or some bullshit like that which is true however they mostly come from the EXACT same plantation and distillery. ALOT of companies do the same cus if they all had their own factory we would have nothing but factories everywhere.

I have an old “traveler” model record player from Crosley, which has the ceramic cartridge, but features the larger case size and speakers. It sounds similar to that newer Crosley Cruiser to my ears.

I love the CR49 Traveler, I imported 3 of them to Australia from ebay, I first saw one on shango 066 where he takes it for a ride in the car powered by the lighter socket, it skipped and jumped to bumps and corners on the road, the auto mech was removed by previous owner so it was full manual

Yes, there is a place for these. I have one which I did small modifications to, adding a flip-over stylus cartridge with an LP or 78rpm needle, and a small counter weight at the back of the pickup arm. I use mine mainly for playing worn or slightly damaged records that I don't want to risk a decent cartridge and stylus on, but that I still want to play. Also as it's so portable I've sat out on the patio and listened to it on headphones. Vintage portable players that have been properly restored are usually better for sound quality, but also heavy and with 'transit bolts' that have to be screwed down for playing, so they're more 'transportable' than portable.

This was very informative but I had question I own a Ion classic lp TT and it's not a suit case player but it does carry the same style mech except its running audio technica 3600L cartridge do you have any idea where to get another mech with the same tone arm or just the tone arm??

You will have to use a dead player for parts as none are available except stylus, belts and motors.

Don't have any suitcase players here, but I will admit that I've really did like the looks of that BPO one. To bad it kinda sounds pretty tinny, at least through this video. Would be curious if those record player mechanisms are interchangeable between units as they all seem to use that same basic cheap plastic record player mechanism. I know you can pretty much replace the stylus on any of them with the same stylus as they all use that same "Chuo Denji" (sp) type ceramic cartridge. For example, I recall that he had a blue "denim" style Crosley suitcase player, but said he accidentally fried it by plugging in the wrong power adapter. Wonder if he could still salvage the parts off that, such as the player mechanism to replace other units that may have broken parts. Even though there are plenty of differences between the various units, there are also still quite a few similarities as well.

Do Crosley record players sound better you put some hours on them? I am not 100% sure if I’m getting used to the distortion or if the motor is running smoother. None of my hi fidelity equipment does this, that equipment sounds as good as the day I bought them, which is 3 years and counting. If this is true it’s good news because I almost gave up on my Crosley Anthology.

It is probably because your speakers are broken in now.

Hi..Love all your videos on the suitcases. I love getting them, they just take me back to being a kid. Question…i contacted Crosley recently and they replied that their latest version with updated sound is the Cruiser “Premier” so I got one for Black Friday and it does sound much better than any other suitcase, but my issue is that when i place the needle down, you start hearing the music coming out of the needle way before it comes on the speakers and the first couple of notes are missing out of the speakers and you continue to hear them both throughout and its so distracting. The sound coming out of the needle isn’t lined up with the speakers. How can I fix this? Or can it be fixed? I contacted Crosley and they told me that it’s normal and asked me to send them a video. I sent them a video showing both Crosley and Victrola. This doesn’t happen with my Victrola or other suitcases I’ve purchased on Amazon. They never replied back after that. One more question…Your review isn’t on a premier though and they don’t have Premier on their website. So I ordered the indigo from amazon and it had the horrible sound. The sound wasn’t the updated version so I returned it. How do I know to order the right one with the updated sound? Any advice is greatly appreciated 😊

do these really ruin our vinyl records more than the "sophisticated entry model" ones or is that overblown?

No , they actually don't.... all record player's will damage records over time but it all depends on how well you take care of your records and what stylus you use.

None of these suitcase record players, even the Crosley branded one itself, are actually made by Crosley, however, they are often made in the same factory to each manufacturer’s specifications.

I use a suitcase player and it's great. The speakers are awful of course, but I can play my records on it, it doesn't hurt them, and it wasn't 300+ dollars, haha. I definitely want a better setup, but I can vouch that suitcases have their place.

Sorry they all sound like junk. My one tube wonder from 1962 sounds a lot better, and it has only a 3 inch speaker. I bet the arm on my one tube wonder,tracks a lot lighter.
@dougbrowning82 Жыл бұрын
That 1962 cartridge had an output of 3V which was a good match for the beam power amp used in the player. Modern ceramics are only 1V, and poorly match up with the solid state op amp. The tracking force for a ceramic cart hasn't really changed much since those days, 5 to 6 grams. We used to get razzed over our BSRs back in our day. But those were often found not only in suitcase players, but handsome, Mediterranean stereo consoles. The famous Dansette was built around a BSR mechanism, which they proudly stated was precision crafted in Great Britain.

They'll destroy your records...not
@josephbennett34823 ай бұрын
All record player's infact destroy records but at a pretty slow rate under normal conditions , it takes a while for the playing surface on records to wear out but it can happen much faster depending on what stylus you use and if there is debris on the surface that the stylus runs over , if you take care of your records they'll last longer.
