Yes I would say with minimal exposure to other groups of people, ethnocentrism, xenophobia, scared and judgmental of the outside world is the perfect recipie and breeding ground for very strong bias and prejudice amongst the group which could lead to racism. That being said it is very commendable that the idea if self sufficiency the Amish and Mennonites never owned or used slaves. That says alot. Amish also tend to live in rural areas where many biases in the community can influence others. Just my opinion. Personal experience ancedotal evidence have seen racism from all groups of people including Black and Amish youths.

Well, let's admit the Amish church got it right on this one. For, the Word of God is consistent throughout, that it absolutely deplores and denounces warfare, violence and soldiering. For instance, Mal 2:16, "...'I HATE A MAN COVERING HIMSELF WITH VIOLENCE AS WELL AS WITH HIS GARMENT,'" says the Lord Almighty. Likewise, Zech 4:6b, "NOT BY MIGHT NOR BY POWER, BUT BY MY SPIRIT," says the Lord Almighty. What does it mean to fight by the Spirit? The Lord reminds, Jn 6:63, "..THE WORDS I HAVE SPOKEN TO YOU ARE SPIRIT..." Indeed, this is just what the Spirit reminds and teaches as well, 2 Cor 10:4-5, that the ONLY WEAPON God has entrusted to us is the Word of God. "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.... We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself against the Knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ..." This is called the blessed heritage of the servants of God, from of old - Isa 54:17, Lk 21:15 etc. This is the reason the Word of God warns against bloodshed and forewarns of His Judgment all through the scriptures, beginning with Gen 2:16-17. The outcome of its disobedience also made evident even as ADAM DISREGARDED GOD'S FOREWARNING AND CHOSE DEATH OVER LIFE - Gen 3:17-19. The same reiterated every time God called and set apart His servants - eg. Gen 9:5. Yes, whether FELLOWMEN or ANIMALS - all will be held ACCOUNTABLE for the blood of man/mankind. The Lord has Himself reiterated and reminded the self-same, Matt 26:52b, "..FOR ALL WHO DRAW THE SWORD WILL DIE BY THE SWORD." Let us not forget, when we fight/retaliate like the rest of the world, we dishonor God by taking Judgment into our own hands. Thus betraying a total lack of Faith. It is therefore, most unfortunate that Christians at large advocate arming oneself with the weapons of this world rather than with the Word of God. Consequently, to their utter disgrace, they'd READILY SILENCE a faithful servant of God like self who LIVES & FIGHTS BY THE WORD OF GOD and instead HAPPILY LICENSE all blasphemers and God-haters to spew their venom whenever and wherever possible pretending it is by 'love' they wish to win them over!!! And so they only add to their condemnation for distorting and let misusing the Word of God which clearly ought to mean, just as it has forewarned: "Anyone who speaks against sons of men will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come." Refer Job 42:7, Jer 23:36-40, Matt 7:15-16 & 21-23, Matt 15:8-9 & 19, 2 Jn 9, 2 Pet 2, Jude 4 etc. etc.

This very question comes up quite often by both the Amish and "English". I live in Pennsylvania and work/live/hire Amish in my day-to-day living. As with non-Amish, the plain people have a hard time answering the question of whether they are or aren't racist. Amish are basically clannish. By this I mean they choose to self isolate themselves from the outside world. Having enormous families, there's little need for the Amish to recruit new members. Likewise the same for adopting/fostering non Amish children. However, when it does occur, the examples you gave (Asian-American/Afro-American} speaking PA Dutch occasionally happens. But even the Amish will admit it's not the norm. Because of this, the appearance of being intolerant to diversity is evident. Even to the Amish. But in all fairness, the Amish are selfless and usually the first to help a neighbor (no matter what race) when in need. Sometimes even when not needed. So I would say that on the surface, yes it appears that there's a lack of diversity, however as with non Amish change does occur. I have an Amish friend that says (in Dutch) "As goes the English, so does the Amish."

Most Amish people would say that they are not racist. And I don't believe they would treat a black person in the world differently just because they're black. However, I am going to go ahead and say that a lot of Amish and Mennonites are racist. The Amish are not good about accepting anyone who is different within their own circles. A lot of them will look down their noses at anyone in the church who is poor, anyone who has mental issues, anyone who is different from their normal. And this is how they view anyone who does not have Amish blood. Most Amish people would not want their kid to marry a black person. And how do they treat adopted children? My brother adopted 5 black kids (they are conservative Mennonite). Those kids were never treated well by church friends. Some of the little kids would call them terrible names because they were black. Little kids don't do things like that unless they pick up an attitude from their parents or family around them. They would never admit that they're racist and maybe it's a bigger problem within their own circle then it would be toward someone in the world. But in my opinion, and from what I've seen, they are somewhat racist.

You're fooling yourself about whether or not telling jokes about Black people is 'okay.' It isn't 1972 anymore. The troublesome thing with the whole "get over it" [ 2:34 ] attitude coming from people at the top of the heap (i.e. white, cis, het, Christian males such as yourself) who make jokes about marginalized people (be they Black, Asian, Latino, Queer, Muslim, disabled, women, etc.) is that----AT ITS CORE----this is a way of saying that you don't care what the impact your words have on other people, AND that you feel entitled to behave this way without being criticized about it. And that's an attitude that thugs, bullies, and---yes---racists have in common. Whether or not you see yourself as a racist, your BEHAVIOR in this case most certainly IS racist. So you can either accept that label or change your behavior. The choice is yours. Just telling people to "get over it" isn't going to get you off the hook this far into the 21st century.

This was in PA (so I don't know how far spread the issue of genetic diseases are in other states). He informed us that because there is not a lot of genetic diversity, they need other races to add more diversity. I also read that this is an issue across most Amish communities because everyone can be traced to the few German settlers that came over. I witnessed two black children at a Amish/Mennonite store (I needed to get some items really quick). I was Soooo shocked to see a little black boy! But when I learned this, it made sense. I was worried that he would be treated poorly or different because he was a black. I also remember him seeing me and just staring and staring at me... like he had not ever seen another black person before...lol

Many Amish homes were safe zones for the underground railroad during the times of slavery. They having been persecuted and hunted down for their beliefs in Europe had to hide in people's homes, so I would think they felt it right to help hide runaway slaves because they didn't agree with what was happening. I think they are just very tight knit and clannish, not racist. But to generalize a group in such way is a fruitless endeavor. Many cultures could be construed as racist simply because they want to hold tight to their customs regardless of race.

I also think that racism is, if you say something related to someone's race, but you'd be embarrassed if Jesus (or whomever you really respect) were to hear you say it; even if it was just a joke. I think racism is just, when you're not loving to someone, on purpose, because of their race; and you refuse to treat them as a human being who is equal to you. I think people should really focus on just trying to be good human beings, good listeners, good friends, good neighbors.

Great video! Love the Genesis passage at the end! Just a few additional thoughts to piggy-back on from this old pastor, Acts 17:26 He has made from one blood every nation of men to live on the entire face of the earth, having appointed fixed times and the boundaries of their habitation. This teaches us there is only one race, but many nationalities. The word nation in the Greek is where we get the word "ethnic" or "ethnicity" from. This is critical to Biblical Theology since Jesus identified Himself with the designation Son of man, which is: son of Adam. If we were truly different "evolved" races and not of one blood, then the blood of Jesus would only be good for the particular race He came into the world through, and that is anathema to the Gospel!
@mercyjohnson64363 жыл бұрын
Though well meant, I'm afraid you've got it wrong. The holy Blood of the Lord is not meant for transfusion purpose. Hence such a line of thinking is totally flawed. At any rate there would be no match! For, all mankind, unlike the Lord, are born of the accursed seed of fallen man and hence come irrefutably crowned with Sin and Death. The reason, unlike all mankind, the Lord went on to prove how neither Sin nor Death have any power over Him. As regards, the so-called designation (!) 'Son of Man', why does it not occur to anyone to consider why would the writers/translators disobey and call the Lord 'Son of Man' when the Word of God has clearly instructed, 'He shall be called the Son of God' (Lk 1:32, 35, Isa 9:6)? Clearly, in Lord's own words, He called Himself the Son of God - Jn 10:36b - the reason the Jews accused Him of blasphemy in the first place! Definitely not Son of Man or even Man!! In what manner is the Lord deemed Son of Man? Especially when the fact is that not even the woman had any role in His holy conception - thus fulfilling the prophesy, 'virgin with Child' (Isa 7:14, Gen 3:15b). Surely if she had a role, she wouldn't be called a virgin, would she? Her role was merely to offer her womb for His surrogacy - not a difficult thing in these modern times to understand I hope. Besides, does capslocking S & M suggest anything other than the blasphemous attempt at equating the Lord with the worthless man???? Now how worthless the fallen man/mankind is the Word of God clearly describes, for egs. refer Isa 2:22, Jer 17:5-6, Jer 51:17 and scores others. Man's persistent attempt at distorting the Word of God began with the very first man when he with the very first words he spoke to his very first fellow-man not only distorted the Gospel (God-spelt) but also changed the God-ordained name he was to share with his fellowman - refer Gen 2:23. Thus sowing the seed of division which over the period has only multiplied into ever increasing and irreparable divisions, racism being just one among them.
@Mr111BigDaddy1113 жыл бұрын
@@mercyjohnson6436 Good day to you! I'm not sure I disagree with you, unless I'm missing a certain nuance that I don't see? That means I must have done a bad job explaining my thought in writing! I am speaking that we are all one blood, meaning we are all Adam's descendants. That is the biblical stand on humans. Thus the modern evolutionary view on race and racism that Darwin believed was wrong. My talk of Jesus and his role with humanity is for legal purposes that He entered through this human line, not that he had the fallen blood of humanity. Thus his death was not only redemptive but was legal. I mean God could have just killed the devil, or started all over, etc., but he chose to come into the world as a human (not fallen) through the act of birth through a child of Adam. Son of man was used by Jesus himself more than any other title. Yes, he was much more than a man, he was a sinless man who was also fully God (hypostatic union). He was indeed God who took on flesh. This is the Biblical view, so I'm not sure if I'm missing something in your response? Again, we are talking about there being one race of humans through Adam and Eve, and that Jesus came into the world through birth from one such human named Mary, with intact sinless blood. Am I missing something, or does that clear it up? Sometimes, words written can be misunderstood. Have a great day! :)
@mercyjohnson64363 жыл бұрын
@@Mr111BigDaddy111 Thank you for responding. Though at the end of the day, you are where you are, perhaps able to clarify TO yourself a bit more better, and I am where I am. The two still poles apart! Because, yes, you are missing more than a little something. Lk 1:35-37 clearly describes the Lord did not come born as 'humans' come. That, He is the Word Incarnate - conceived of the Word and the Spirit of God - and for the purpose of the fulfillment of the one of the very many signs concerning His Fist Coming, came born of the virgin, to which purpose she'd willingly obeyed God and offered her womb for His surrogacy. For the simplest fact is that just as God sent forth His Word and created all things, He had once again sent forth His Word to re-create or redeem all things since destroyed by man (Gen 3:16-19). This takes us back right to the very beginning. For this reason alone God created mankind in the first place, that He may proclaim the Coming of the Messiah. And just as it is revealed - He created them in His image and in His likeness - i.e. the Image & the Likeness of the One to come. That all may await Him and acknowledge Him and not seek their redemption in any other - be it the mortal man, snakes, cows, trees, spirits, stones, sun, moon, whatever else. Refer Rom 1:18-20. What is more? He thus proclaimed the Gospel of Salvation right there through the creation of mankind. Creating the male of man out of the dust of ground to symbolize the fallen human race who will fall away and be estranged from God to return to dust from whence it had come. Then, going on to create, or re-create rather, the latter man FROM OUT OF the former man to showcase how in the very manner the Lord will come, Break His own holy & eternal Body, Shed His own holy & eternal Blood and Himself Sleep the brief sleep of Death to BRING FORTH His people, the redeemed - symbolically 'the Bride', hence 'the female of man' - from OUT OF THE fallen human race. The superior calling and election of the female first pronounced in Gen 2:18 continued to be reiterated therefore despite the Fall - eg. Gen 3:15b, Isa 7:14, Jer 31:22 etc. So, you see, what you misconstrue as the Lord being born of 'a child of Adam' is no different than this Godless world misconstruing the egg came before the chicken. See, how the Lord had to time and again remind Mary her true place with Him - refer Jn 2:4, Lk 2:49, Matt 12:46-50 etc. Likewise, to those who'd dare to trace His lineage in the flesh of man - refer Jn 8:56 & 58, Matt 22:42-45, etc. And yet you dare to reiterate that the Lord had called Himself 'Son of man'? Despite self reminding you from Jn 10:36, where He testifies in His own words, that no, He had indeed called Himself the 'Son of God'! Can't you understand it is the men who went about compiling the Bible who mislead us into believing the LIE that the Lord had in contravention to God's Word called Himself the 'Son of man'??? Just like how the very first man with his very first words distorted the Gospel and changed the God-ordained name of the woman - UNTIL THE LORD HAD HIMSELF ONCE AND FOREVER REFUTED & REPUTED THE OLD LIE OF Gen 2:23 AND REINSTATED THE INFALLIBLE GOSPEL ON THE EVE OF HIS HOLY SACRIFICE - eg. Matt 26:26-29! Perhaps now you will begin to understand why to their utter disgrace the compilers of the Bible are left to contend with two conflicting genealogies in Matthew & Luke respectively!!!

For it is ONLY in the Light of God's Word that I minister - just as it is entrusted to me. Do you know what is the definition of Scripture? Look it up in Jn 5:39 - where the Lord defines Scripture as that which TESTIFIES about Him. Now ask yourself, does Gen 2:23 testify about the Lord? Or as God has Himself pointedly referred to in Job 42:7, did the words of Job's friends rightly testify about Him? Does not the letter to Philemon go absolutely against the Word of God concerning the slaves - refer Deut 23:15, "If a slave has taken refuge with you, DO NOT HAND HIM OVER TO HIS MASTER. Let him live among you wherever he likes and in whatever town he chooses. DO NOT OPPRESS HIM."? There are scores and scores of such contradictions that commit the unpardonable sin of FALSE WITNESSING against the Lord. In God's own words, Jer 8:8, "How can you say, 'We are wise, for we have law of the Lord,' WHEN ACTUALLY THE LYING PEN OF THE SCRIBES HAVE HANDLED IT FALSELY?" Finally, as a parting gift, here's the God-ordained method (and therefore absolutely fool-proof) established since of old to help all genuine Truth-seekers to discern between the Infallible & Irrefutable Word of God and the Worthless & Futile words of men: The Word of God is that which absolutely CONCURS with what God as the Father first spoke and revealed; then God as the Son reiterated, exemplified, fulfilled and taught; and that which now God as the Holy Spirit reminds and teaches. I’m Filipino-American (well half but I look 💯). Is it me or do Amish like to stare? Especially the kids. And the women/girls, why are they all so timid? Maybe it’s that they expect me to have some kind of accent and think I’m foreign but find out im as American as anyone else. Or maybe they have the hots for me haha doubt that. I think I see this more in the conservative (stricter communities) than I would in the larger settlements like Lagrange County (Hoosier myself). I wish I was fluent in Pa Dutch. Man I would have sooo much fun with that!

They love to stare! Drove me nuts. Probably because they are so curious. They don’t have a tv to view the world through so they are taking in a lot when out in public.

If you read this and you are Amish or the guy who made the video. I want you to know. I’m black. It’s important when you said “I made black jokes” You have to be careful that you could make a black joke and the whole room would find it funny’ but that one black person doesnt. I grew up in a white community where I was the only black kid in school. I gotta tell you’ it builds anxiety permanent damage forever even if the whole room is laughing it doesn’t make it right. If I was Amish and living with you guys and you guys made funny black jokes, as a human being the brain plays with itself and it can hurt others without you even knowing it. It says in Matthew 12:36 “I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak,” It means you got to be true to yourself in your heart if you know you are racist God will know and you can’t hide it. You should always be true to yourself and I believe is IF you are racist you should repent and get Gods righteousness’ I don’t know much about you because I just met you today but I would have a long biblical talk all day. I'm Jewish people don't like me at times because of my religion are my culture however you want to look at it. Hi, this was an interesting video, I was wondering if you could do a similar one but on homophobia. For example, how Amish parents would react if their kid said they were gay?
@Shendue3 жыл бұрын
Amish are christians. The Holy Bible comdemns intercourse that isn't strictly finalized to procreation. Not much because it's specifically against homoromanticism, but because semen is considered something that should be used for procreation and wasting it is considered akin to killing a new life. I assume they would try to talk to the person about it. But I have no idea if they'd be harsh about it or trying to calmly talk to the kid about the situation.

Joking like that is highly ignorant 🙄 no matter who does it..you shouldn't poke fun at other races by making stupid stereotypical jokes... What kind of jokes are you making specifically? Care to share any?? You're sounding like the white guy that says "how can I be racist when I have black friends?" At the end of the day, while you respectfully can't speak for every Amish person in the world.. you know whether or not if you are genuinely welcoming and pure hearted towards those who aren't your own kind or not. It's evident that if nothing else you are close minded saying "an Asian guy walked in a restaurant, 100% Asian. And he looked like he didn't speak English!" Really? What gave that he was 100% Asian and mixed with nothing else? What gave that he only knew his native language and no English? Some people should just opt not to speak publicly on certain topics.

People are to offended by everything these days. Way to offended and it's dumb. If a person of a different color than I wanted to ask me questions about being white or told a joke about white people ( as long as it was not a filthy joke, that goes for any color of people, keep the jokes mostly clean) I would not get offended. I don't know why anyone would. I had a good friend ,Betty, she and I would ask each other questions , curiosity, we weren't offended, I am white, she is black. We learned things. It was great. She told me " Barb, black women do not wash their hair as much as white women do" I said why, then she told me it was because their scalp did not produce as much natural oils and washing it daily would cause their scalp to be even more dry and that would cause their hair to be more dry and break off, split ECT. Makes sense why they oil it and put the caps or hair wraps on. Something I learned. Interesting. Why be offended by learning about each other. Just stop being offended not everyone is prejudice and mostly just curious.
