Don't use beard balm for a short beard. Beard oil, and beard butter are your best choices for a short beard. Beard balm is for shaping and styling a longer beard.

I agree to a point, but I think it depends on the balm. I would not use a bees wax type balm on a short beard but there are lotion type balms that are soothing to the skin and I would use those on a short beard. My beard is almost where I want it at a medium length on the chin and a bit tapered on the sides. I like to use the lotion balms on mine. I use Proraso beard balm.

And so....i think i will use beard oils and balms for my short beard. Because i need to take care of my beard like a pro.
