Thank you Father Christopher, I appreciate your thoughts on these symbols that some would like removed. Great to see you and I pray daily for the Capuchin Franciscans and thank you for your prayers. Love Mike

What's definitely more important than beards is how faithfully the Capuchins live the life of the reformers who tried to go back to the life of the St.Francis of Assisi! Well, if growing beards without shaving is essentially a part of the Franciscan life, it's no doubt growing beards should be mandatory forever. But it's nonsense to reject someone just because he doesn't grow beards!

Can lay people join the Capuchins for Mass or prayers?

Some capuchins run parishes, and everyone is always welcome at those masses.

@@CapuchinFranciscans how can i find a Capuchin parish near me?
@CapuchinFranciscans14 күн бұрын
I'm not sure what would be quickest, perhaps find out what Capuchin province you are in and see if they list the parish on their website or directory?

Beards must be taken care of on a regular basis. A long, shaggy, unkempt beard is not a mark of holiness but can be a mark of filthiness with anything from today’s ice cream drippings and some of last week’s spaghetti sauce clinging to the fibers. Additionally, they can result in painful bumps on the face and they can drain. Like it or not, there is a correlation between facial hair and society’s perception of the person. Beards do not make the Capuchin, but it can be an important insight into the Capuchin’s personality. Personally, I think a clean, trimmed beard is an indicator of orderliness, caring, confidence, and self-respect.

When it comes to *MONASTIC* (Heremitic) Orders, it is customary for monks who are not priests (i.e. Brothers), to have beards Professed monks who are priests - also known as Fathers - are traditionally beardless/shaved

Imagine being super holy and getting denied just because you couldn't grow a beard, that's literally insane bruh. Glad this was changed, that rule has far too much of a focus on earthly vanity than what the core of being a capuchin friar actually is

In where I live, the capuchins there hardly wear beards.

I hate beards especially those long stringy scruffy beards - just makes me think of lazy unkempt men who cant be bothered. Guess it's because no one in my family ever grew one. I was married for 34 years and my late husband never once neglected to shave even when he was in hospital .
