Keto responder. Down 80 pounds since January 1, 2024. As long as I stay low on the carbs, no hunger and very satisfied with 1 or 2 meals a day. But let any carbohydrates cross my lips and it takes me up to 5 days to get back in ketosis. My blood sugar this morning was 74 and my ketones were 2.5 at 5:18 am for a GKI of 1.6 (thank you ketomojo). Went to 2 Holiday parties over the weekend. Only had meat appetizers with no sauces. No alcohol only sparking water. Winning!!!

Went back on a Keto-vore diet about 6 months ago. Made the switch to a proper human diet to get my metabolic health under control and to manage inflammation and chronic pain. Dr. had prescribed me BP meds and wanted me to take a statin drug. Pain management Dr. indicated they couldn’t do anything for my OA, Sciatica, or Damaged Discs. I haven’t taken any medications in 4-1/2 months. Weight loss was a positive side effect, 47 YO WM 6’ 2”, went from 200 to 165 lbs currently. Mental health has also improved. I cut out carbs, starches, grains, seed oils, and processed foods. It’s amazing that if you quit eating poison, your health improves.

I've seen similar benifits as you regarding a proper human diet. I first tried a very similar diet to yours, & lost about ~40lbs. _( my biggest mistake on that part of my weight loss journey was I tried to use primarily chicken as my protein source. I had good reasons for this at the time, but have since abandoned that direction)_ I then went full Carnivore for over 8 months, using fatty ruminant animal meats as my fuel source. This allowed for another 85lbs on top of the 1st 40+lbs to be shed. Very little exercise was involved do to some injuries & past orthopedic surgery's that left me in a lot of pain. Electrolytes were my biggest challenge going full Carnivore. Supplemental paths of magnesium & a few other vit/minerals were helpful due to mal-absorption issues that I suffered from another significant digestive situation/problem. My historical *_genetic deck_* appears to be stacked against me rather greatly when lookingat my siblings& ancestors, but thankfully the combination of Carnivore, Keto-vore diet I currently practice, I believe I am able to improve my own fate by a few yrs at least, towards a more positive outcome & direction. You have done well it sounds like, & all I am saying is that I too can testify to your own conclusions, as being a sound thesis for accomplishing a healthy weight, & achievements in improved mental state, as well as significant pain reduction. If only the dozens of doctors & surgeons I've dealt with over the last 20yrs had clued me in on how I could fire nearly all of them, if I just knew that I had to find healthy and nutritious foods that also reduce inflammation in my body. I had no idea that the GMO grains fed to nearly all animals we typically injest for our protein intake, was in itself causing me great pain thru either inflammation or histamine reactions. I'm still learning, but concluded that ruminant animal meats have the least amount of bad outcomes for myself, & I attribute this to the 4 chamber stomachs that may help to break down the imbalances of omega 3's to omega 6's. For example, I feel much more pain/inflammation in my lower legs & feet, from chicken, that beef. True organic chicken is both expensive and not that easy to aquire in my area, so I have not been able to test that thesis out yet. Its pretty obvious that all the increases in health problems that Americans suffer from, are somehow tied to the overall changes in diet & food sources we now have in our daily lives. Prolly take me a decade to figure most of it out, but I think we are both on a more successful pathway that before, of using the doctors tools (prescription pad & surgery's) to fix damaged disc's, & other orthopedic issues. I've had 3 orthopedic surgery's & wonder now if at least 2 could have been avoided by this dietary change 🤔. Apologies for rambling so much.

I’m a keto responder. I started Keto 2 1/2 years ago to avoid taking statins and metformin… and accidentally put my bipolar disorder into remission (I’ve reversed my T2D & hypertension, lost 120 pounds, and am off almost all my psych meds). But your question was about hunger and cravings. Once I figured out that I needed to supplement my electrolytes when I cut my carbs (a painful 2-3 months), it didn’t take long for me to accidentally skip meals. Within six months of starting keto I was eating just one meal a day and was delighted to not be doing food prep every time I turned around! I would eat my meal at 11 AM, have a fatty coffee, clean up the kitchen and turn out the lights. I walk 3 miles every day, but on days I also go to the gym for an hour 7:32 - I sometimes need a 3 oz meat & cheese snack at 6am right when I get home. And even this isn’t hunger, but more a deep body craving for protein/fat. The gym is only every third day - when I burn an extra 300-400 cal and then sit in the sauna for 30-45 minutes. On the days in between one meal a day is fine. I have no interest in snacking anymore, and love watching top chef & bakeoff (these shows don’t make me feel hungry or deprived, and I have ALWAYS loveD to eat ). Though I am tempted by Chex mix and tortilla chips - I have been able to avoid them. I still use a few drops of monk fruit in my coffee or tea, but I know I will eventually need to give that up. So One coffee & one meal a day (with a two hour eating window) works great for me most days, adding a 4-5 bite snack in a 5 hour window on gym days.

I guess I'm what you're calling a keto responder. I started keto one week before Thanksgiving and 2022 and in 9 months I lost 35 lb without changing anything except what went past my lips. I think I worked out twice in that 9-month period. But then I discovered the carnivore diet and after a month or two of researching it I switched to that. Carnivore is just a stricter Keto. I didn't lose any more weight but my excruciating right knee arthritis went completely away in six to eight weeks and my lower back inflammation went away in that same time frame. And I had a kidney stone before I started keto and one while I was on keto and it's been 14 months on Carnivore and I haven't had another one. Plants are trying to kill you as Dr chafee says. I don't know if I'll ever add plants back into my diet again because I feel so good. I got back in the gym 4 and 1/2 months ago and I am crushing it at age 61. Seems like every time I go in the gym I'm stronger than the time before.

@nicknorwitzPhD When I first started keto, I did need to lose weight, and I ended up shedding over 85 pounds in six months. However, the main reason I chose keto was because my health was in terrible shape-I felt like I was dying. The weight loss was a bonus, but the real benefit was how much better I felt overall. I went from barely being able to function to feeling a thousand times better, like I could actually enjoy life again. The best part? I could eat a substantial amount of food and still maintain my weight, which felt truly amazing! Flexibility to me is the key to sustainability. Thanks again so much for your outstanding contact Nick!!

@Kroh13 I've been following keto since 2018 and lost over 85 pounds. I’ve tried the carnivore diet, but it’s just not for me-it’s not sustainable in the long term. For me, sustainability is the key to lasting success, and that’s what I've focused on. As for people claiming cravings disappear on carnivore, they might for some, but I can’t tell you how many carnivore influencers have fallen off the wagon after saying, “If you just stick to this, you won’t have cravings anymore.” I’m not knocking them, but the reality is that as humans, we have desires and we enjoy variety in our food. Eventually, if we keep restricting ourselves too much, we’re likely to give in.

If u tried dry fasting that would blow ur mind too. Obliterates hunger, incl cravings. Easiest way to fast and studies are now out there to prove it’s a 1=3 method. 1 day dry is equal to 3 water fasting. Im back to it weekly now and I hate water fasting! 48 hrs just messed me up, didn’t accomplish much it seemed & still had to come out of it slowly (or got GI troubles) but 3 days wasn’t long enough either, 4 days is quite hard the last day. And so hateful to go 4 days! I do 48 hr dry now, mouth never gets dry even and it’s like a 6 day fast (as far as healing, I never lose wgt on fasts) WinWin!

Getting inklings of true hunger and true appetite now, as opposed to the incessant carb craving and nerve-wracking glucose roller coasters. Still recovering from the 40 years of „high caloric malnutrition“ if that is a thing, so I haven’t landed in the land of serene satiety yet ;) It certainly takes time for me to relax fully into ketosis, a handful of times could experience that flywheel of fat burning metabolism 🎉 insanely good. Otherwise kind of overly excited with that nutritious delicious food. Definitely prefer a butter binge over carb cravings. 24 hours fasting goes really well. I started keto about 6 years ago and the first year seemed great. I dropped weight, wasn't hungry all the time, but then I stopped losing and then started to regain. I finally had to do keto and count calories, which is where I am today. It's the only way I started to lose weight again. I'm not trying to weigh what I did when I was 20, and my goal still leaves me just above the "normal" weight BMI. Now I am stalled again and so hungry most of the time that I have been eating more than I should the last few days. I'm just so tired of it all.

Customers were amazed and often asked how I stayed skinny working there. Knowing I was keto the owner would occasionally make savory cheesecakes for employee parties. No crust, no sugar, but savory ingredients and toppings. Bacon, mushrooms, cheeses and meats. She never tried to sell them in the case. She knew they would be slow movers and she would likely take a loss on them.

Definitely a keto responder. When I stick to keto, I feel sated at around 1600 calories a day. Whereas before, when I was 'dieting' 1600 calories would leave me starving. I'd managed to lose close to 70 pounds pre keto but over a course of 7 years (with long stalls in weight loss) and once I started keto, I lost the final 52 in about a year and half. Whenever I stray from the keto way of eating, typically on vacation, I can put on about 7 or 8 pounds in as little as 9 days. Only comes off when I go back to keto. Doesn't matter how much exercise I do,

I easily gain 10# in a week and can keep on to put 30# on in a month if I let myself eat for my tongue and comfort and/or new taste adventures Vacations are pretty ruined for me as eating out is a big part of it. Even just going to see family for vacation they want to eat special meals & have treats (reasonable human behavior). Not happening on keto/carni. Becoming suddenly athletic isn’t happening either lol Not a big deal to me, personally, but it’s out there and bugs me, the quandary of how to BE in society. The human experience rly revolves around food…

In one sense, I am a keto responder. I lost 35 lbs on keto, though it was really hard to achieve ketosis. Most people regard ketosis as a blood ketone level of 0.5 mmol/L. However, according to things I’ve read, you’re not really in ketosis unless your GKI ≤ 9.0. I seldom drop that far. Mostly, my Ketones are 0.3 - 0.4 unless I am fasting. After a 3-day water fast I can reach a BG of 80 and a ketone level of 1.1. That gives me a GKI of 4.04. I have tried to go beyond 3 days, but when my BG dropped to 68, I decided to end the fast, despite not having any symptoms (weakness, heart palpitations…), since I wasn’t in a controlled environment and really didn’t want my husband to find me unconscious in the morning. 🥴 For the past 6 weeks or so, I’ve been 85-90% carnivore. With a measured RMR (taken 2 years ago) of 1,070 calories, and a tendency to gain weight if my calorie intake went over 1375 calories, I’ve been able to, as the result of eating keto, and lately carnivore, to up my metabolic rate so that, even having an intake of 1,700 calories does not cause weight gain. (In fact, I lost 0.8 lbs in the last 2 weeks with an average intake of 1,690 calories per day) I know that is not all diet related, but my eating choices are a big part of it. All that said, even exogenous ketones don’t curb my appetite. In fact, I haven’t noticed any significant reduction in my desire to eat. If there’s food available, I’m “hungry”, even if it means I need to seek out something I prefer, instead of what I’m seeing.

Nick, thanks for another great, thought provoking video. I would appear to be a keto responder. I've been on a carnivore diet for digestive healing purposes for 120 days. I've had maybe 50 grams of carbs in that time period. it's not something I wanted to do, however, I've stuck with it and can honestly say that I think because of the way: my appetite is regulated, as well as my steadier energy levels and improved sleep quality, I'm a keto responder.

Plus w/carni, ur eliminating the potential problems (plant reactions such as oxalates, GI disturbances, dairy problems unless u include dairy, food addictions…) These things are still there w/“keto” and why some ppl don’t get results on keto till at least a bout on carni (6-12 mos)

I am fasting for more than two years now and try to eat less processed food than before. Even though fasting is different from ketogenic diet, but it works due to same physiology. I can admit that after significant weight loss, I gained some weight back. One explanation I see is that I've started to eat late in evenings more frequently in comparison to when I started to follow intermittent fasting regimen. Also, after reading dozens of books and a few dozens of papers on human metabolism, nutrition etc. I see that thinking only about lowering Insulin to lose weight is quite a simplistic approach to weight loss. It works for sure, but it may happen that you may see diminishing returns. The paper that you've mentioned shows that human metabolism is quite complex and there are things such as the BHB-amino acids that as you've mentioned may affect how people lose weight in heterogenic manner.

Keto responder here for sure! The first time i tried keto, i failed spectacularly to get into ketosis, and after s month of shiny my husband begged me to hear go back to my regular diet! 🤣 This time around, i hacked my body and the system completely, fur into Therapeutic Ketosis within about 48 hours, and have stayed there for the last 3 or so months. I find supplementing with complete amino acids helps, and rarely use MCT oil or exogenous ketones. I'm not going to lie... After 3.5 months, the plate of broccolini and butter is SO tempting! So long as i keep my daily carb intake to around 10g, the main meal with carbs to early afternoon, and adequate hydration my body is just smashing all the goals and my ketones are in the therapeutic range currently. 👍

When I started keto (around 2018), I found a provider that would ship me daily meals. Breakfast, snack, lunch and dinner. After about 4 weeks(probably my window for keto adaptation), I had to ask them to give me only breakfast and lunch, I effectively could eat all what they gave me. Went from 118Kg to 73 in about one year and hovering there since.

Hi Nick! I am a fan of your work. Thanks for doing it! I wanted to submit a video request for you. I'm a young person (40 yo) with stage 4 colon cancer - caught in the unfortunate wave of early onset GI cancer, which is often advanced at time of detection since colonoscopies aren't for young folks. Of course this makes me interested in keto & metabolism. I found a case study online recently, and it's been really thought provoking for me. it fits the n=1 science paradigm. My summary: Very fit man (martial artist who ran studios) in his late 40s gets stage colon cancer. Proceeds to water fast for 21 days, eat only one ribeye a day (in part because he had less output and output was painful,) realizes he can add green juice without being painful, so switches to ribeye + green juices. Total period is 4 month. Cancer disappears! He gets I believe ~2, maybe 3 years at no evidence of disease. Unfortunately, his cancer comes back, and it is unstoppable. He dies a year later. I don't know for sure, but I can only assume fasting / ribeye-carnivore didn't work. My naive interpretation is he got "99%" of the cancer with his methods, but not 100%, and that 100% managed to adapt to survive fasting / carnivore. I have been wondering what we as a community (metabolic medicine x cancer) can learn from this case study. It feels like a really valuable contribution to the n=1 stories out there, and I'd like to honor and learn what we can. I wondered if you'd be up for checking it out and consider making a video about it if it intrigues you. The gentleman's name is Fred Evrard. I could link you to the videos I found which were most informative as to this case. Thanks for doing what you do!

Also "keto for life"... since 2019. I'm never hungry, and all food cravings and addictions just vanished. Lost 100 lbs slowly (on purpose) over 2 years. I could have changed things to lose faster, but those people tend to not stick with it and gain it back... plus the skin has a harder time changing as fast as the fat loss so wayyy more skin bags leftover. slow and steady helps prevent problem 1 and reduces problem 2. maintained 3 yrs now, and my skin is still slowly shrinking.
@jamesthompson728228 күн бұрын
Tim Ferriss offers a hack for speeding skin adjustment, and it works for me. Supplement with policosanol + R-Alpha Lipoic Acid before bed (with water but not food). Seemed to work for me as I dropped 30 lbs. Like all things metabolic, likely wouldn't work for everyone - we're all frustratingly a tad unique - but it's worth a try. This is one of the hacks he got from the coaching community that enables actors to quickly put on muscle or reduced weight to qualify for acting roles in Hollywood. Ferriss massively boosted awareness of the keto diet. Find this & other hacks in his book "The 4-Hour Body", or in his blog posts online: everything in the books appears somewhere in the blogs, 'though you might have to dig for it. He's remarkably generous, shares everything he learns in his blogs & podcasts, but the books make it a little more accessible. The guy's a public service. Try it. You should see results within a few weeks (nothing's instant). No massive doses required: I've used a single 20 mg dose of Policosanol with 300 mg of R-ALA, but 150 mg might do it. Note that ALA is problematic; here's my understanding of it (if you're a biochem major feel free to educate & improve my understanding of this - I claim no expertise): ALA is a chiral molecule: comes in right & left-hand versions. In chemistry class we'd build stick & ball models of molecules. Our chem teacher noted one day that we'd just made a chiral molecule, right-hand version. Cool, we said, & asked "How do we build the Left version?" Answer was "You can't." The way you see it is to put your right-hand stick model in front of a mirror. Does it make a difference? Yes - at least sometimes. Chiral molecules occur infrequently in organisms. Generally they represent degradation: one version degrades to the other. Tough (but possible) to distinguish in the lab, but biological systems can tell the difference. In the case of ALA, the right-hand version is the one that your liver makes & it's biologically active; it degrades pretty quickly to the left-hand version which is more shelf-stable but biologically inactive. Making r-ALA is expensive, making it shelf-stable isn't a trivial exercise, and regardless it does degrade over time to the left-hand version, which is cheap to make & quite stable. Guess which version the vast majority of supplements provide? Note that presence of the L-version of the molecule (inevitable in some measure) speeds degradation of surrounding R-version molecules, so degradation rate-of-change is geometric, not constant. So you want your supplement to come from a supplement manufacturer that runs pharma-grade production & doesn't just source the base element from China, is fanatical about quality standards & tests the hell out of their product. That's rare. Then make sure when purchasing that you're getting something that's well within it's best-before date range & has (you hope) been transported & stored appropriately (high/low temperatures degrade this stuff fast). Both supplements are safe in any kind of rational dose. Take too much ALA & you get some diarrhea, so back off: 300 mg initially might get you there, so maybe ramp up or just try 150 mg & see how it goes. There's no point increasing dosage: more isn't better, and that's true for most supplements & drugs. You want the minimum effective dose (whatever works), and no more. Finding reliable quality manufacturers is a non-trivial exercise. There's no regulation of supplements. The FDA wants to do this & makes a good case for it: there's ample evidence of harm to the public from poorly-made or inappropriate, tainted, even deliberately-toxic supplements on the market. For instance, tests by Health Canada of a range of Ayurvedic supplements provided by one clinic in Toronto (that caused serious lead poisoning in a patient) found lead, mercury, arsenic & other heavy metals in the majority of their products. As it happens, Ayurvedic medicines from parts of India are deliberately made by mixing metal compounds with solvents: it's intentional, "inherited indigenous folk knowledge" that people thought was beneficial. European medicine made similar mistakes in the Middle Ages, and "medical" or "medicinal" products in America contained similar toxins through the early 20th century. This was WHY we created the FDA. Supplement manufacturers & many prescribing natural health practitioners have protested attempts at legislation that would extend the FDA's purview to supplements. They argue (correctly) that the FDA has been captured by the pharma & drug industries. They point out that decades of effort by the Republican Party to defund the FDA has been effective: the FDA now gets less than 40% of its funding from Congress; the rest comes as direct levies from the very firms it's supposed to regulate. We all know the golden rule: he who pays the gold makes the rules. The FDA wants to regulate supplements because they are effective competition for many patented drugs. And frankly, the FDA does a sh!t job of regulating pharma & food: almost all drugs are now sourced from India or China (so not subject to FDA oversight in manufacturing) & aren't tested when imported, unless the pharma company cares to do that (J&J has famously done this & occasionally found either zero active ingredient, or concerning/toxic contamination, so good to know J&J tests, but most pharma firms do NOT, and I'd be willing to bet most supplement manufacturers don't either). Point is though that the FDA doesn't test imports! So it isn't credible that the FDA wants to regulate supplements for public safety; it's more credible that it's driven to do this to protect the economic interests of Big Pharma, which funds the agency. Dig deep & you find (if you CAN find out) that most supplement manufacturers import from China or India. Under FDA labeling law they can claim a product is "manufactured/made" in the US or Canada even if all they've done is package it here. So the substance is imported from China, either put in capsules here or actually imported already encapsulated in 55-gallon barrels, and simply packaged here (and if you think China or India is regulating manufacturing, I have this bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you). This was true for most products even in the late 1970s when I worked for Sterling Drug; it's become almost universal practice since. Almost. But there ARE some companies still making the actual product in N America. If you can determine that a supplement manufacturer IS manufacturing in N America, share that info. We all need to know it. If you're a supplement manufacturer trolling this comment stream (you should: I would) then dammit publish where you manufacture & have your product independently tested, and not just once but do it monthly or quarterly & publish the results transparently. You'll boost sales if you improve your credibility. And politically you'll buy more support from your consumers in the battle to stop the FDA from extending its reach over your industry. Improve your practices or risk losing your business!

Nick, I don't know what kind of a responder I am but keto hasn't really lowered my appetite; then again I've eaten relatively healthy throughout the years. I started keto a little over one year ago to address IBS after doing low FODMAP four about 3 months (after 20 years of a Mediterranean diet). Then I figured, I'm at the doorstep of keto so I might as well try it and it did tremendously help with the IBS symptoms although it hasn't completely resolved the issues. I didn't have any weight to loose as I had a BMI of 22.4. Actually my BMI has increased to 25.5 because I've added quite a bit of upper body muscle with resistance training and by increasing my protein intake by 250% and fat by about 300% while keeping my total carbs below 20g/day to go keto and even below 5g/day in the last half-year. Somehow I don't often find myself in ketosis whem I measure myself with the Keto-Mojo GK+ meter. More often than not, my BHB levels are at around 0.3-0.5 mmol/L, the highest I've ever found myself was at 1.3. I've become kind of a weird LMHR with an LDL-C of 273, an HDL-C of 63 (kind of low) and TG at 58. I don't know if my IBS has anything to do with that but my latest blood work confirmed the suspicion I had that I don't absorb nutrients properly because of my IBS since my protein numbers were below the normal range despite my huge increase in protein consumption. Previously, my LDL-C was always withing what is considered the normal range, e.g. 116, my HDL was around 60 and my TG 62.

I want this diet to work for me every day, not just half the time and I don't know why. if I'm depressed half the time I still can't trust myself to build a meaningful life, so it's still a pretty bad state of affairs. If you're not interested in making video, would you be willing to answer a few of your thoughts/ideas here? Id love some tips. Either way, thank you so much for the work you do!!

It doesn’t take much increase in carbs (over 40g) to my diet to start the cycle of cravings & severely drop my ketones. Could be I am still quite insulin resistant. I feel great running on at least 1.0 mmol/L ketones & my ability to focus is amazing. Most mornings though I test at 0.3 because I’ve consumed too many sweet keto carbs with fiber & I can feel the difference. Secondary to low carb intake, keeping my eating schedule within an 8 hour period is most important for me to maintain ketones .

I have been low carb since 1996. Very few days of 50 grams of carbs in all that time. For the last four years I have been obligate carnivore for nearly a year (0 grams per day) and then hypercarnivore the rest (About 10 grams or less per day). And at 74, I am in good health but i have never got to a normal BMI in all those years, no matter what I did. But I stuck with it anyway because I believed Dr. Atkins was right. My BMI today is 28 or there abouts. So I may not be a great keto responder. My wife and daughters could never get keto to work for them. My Wife and youngest daughter had mini-gastric bypasses in 2007 and oldest daughter will now have a gastric sleeve in a couple months. Keto never worked for them. They might be keto non responders. So that is why this knock out experiment intrigues me.

I eat around 3-5 eggs per day, butter, liver, kefir and after finishing with that I notice my appetite is gone and I stay satiated until the next day. I’m mostly carnivore now, but I still sometimes have carb cravings, but I can control that usually. If I slip and have any carbs it takes from 5-10 days for me to get back into ketosis. The hardest part of this W.O.E. is my cholesterol numbers that are sky high. Triglycerides good, HDL good, but LDL super high. Regardless, my CAC score was 0 and fractionated cholesterol test was good. My doctors generally freak out about the high cholesterol, but my cardiologist was great. No statins, never will.

Thank you Dr Norwitz. This helps me. In general, I do not get apatite suppression from my carnivore diet. I do take exogenous ketones. I get a mild appetite suppression from that. But it's not enough to keep me from consuming around 4000 cal in my meal. I am OMAD. Perhaps, this provides some insight as to why. I have said for a while now, that if I have any criticism to my diet? It's that the food is "hyperpalatable" I simply love everything about my carnivore diet! And I am strict with it. My daily carbs are less than 10. My on off switch just doesn't seem to work. Which is in contrast to my wife. We are on the same diet (I'm the cook), and she definitely gets the appetite suppression (although she does not use exogenous ketones where I do). Thanks again!! I definitely am "staying curious"!

Have u tried highfat carni? Animal fat satiety is crazy. Way diff from plant fat if u have ever been highfat keto & relied on plants as most do (can’t shake that “plant based” theology that is preached from rooftops)

I've been extremely low carb for 3 years. My urine ketones have never reache stage 2 on the keto-sticks. I used to worry about this but realise that if you are pissing out ketones then this is a result of dysfunction. In the same way that glucose in the urine is a sign of dibatetes; ketones in the urine is a sign that your body is making more than it needs. I had to learn nt to obsess about ketones and I lost the 50lbs anyway, with OMAD and 2mad to(to maintain), never really feeling hungry except in week one of the low carb regime.

Insulin stops ketogenesis, which can only happen when ALL the glycogen stored in your bloodstream, liver and muscles is completely depleted and insulin levels fall to homeostatic level. When you eat carbs, part of the blood glucose is converted to Glycogen and is then sent out to replenish your glycogen stores, when they're refilled it takes another 4 to 5 days for the glycogen tanks to empty out and insulin levels to fall low enough so ketogenesis can start again. So yeah, it's easier to avoid carbs that to ride the blood sugar rollercoaster.

Ketones reduce my cravings. Been keto for a good 5 years but going carnivore now. I DO crave sweet things and although ketones help reduce that I want to get rid of sweet things for a good long while and see how it changes my body recomposition. Premenopause is changing my body at this time. I certainly don't care for the change lol. Looking to get back to a leaner look and add some modest muscle mass back. Send me good wishes!

I feel better on a strict ketogenic/ketovore diet (15-25g net carbs) but definitely still get pretty hungry and sometimes get carb cravings

Been carnivore only for a few weeks. OMAD is now more than sufficient. Sometimes two if I'm exercising. I found the same previously when doing a broader keto diet, but carnivore seems even more effective at appetite suppression. Going back to carbs / UPF etc has the opposite effect, food choices become really stupid and not at all logical. Keto / carnivore definitely the way to go, at least most of the time

I eat low carb, never measured blood ketones, but I don't have any issue doing intermittent fasting 18/6 sometimes 17/7, BMI

I love being on the keto diet. I can eat until I'm satiated, and then I don't have to worry about food or snack until my next meal, which is about 4 or 5 hours later. I also realized that my feeling of being REALLY REALLy full slowly creeps in, so that about 30 min after I finish my meal, I can have the feeling of being way too full if I'm not careful. Also, I guess I'm a keto responder, because when I have some extra cheese dip and pork rinds late in the afternoon, especially if i feel like I didn't have enough fat intake during the day, I tend to actually lose some weight the next day! So now I figured out that if I eat carbs and gain some weight, then I just go on a heavy fat keto diet for a few days and I'll lose the weight I gained. Life is sweet without the sugar!😂

Big keto appetite responder haha, interesting that it's working independently of glp-1. Could be synergy there for further studies to combine them

I feel like keto + a GLP-1RA would be like giving Thanos a full infinity gauntlet... but which is which... (a joke)

im building muscle since i was a kid and on keto is kinda hard for me cause im just not hungry yet energetic so i have to force eating. best diet anyway, most healthy and there is the best source of protein

I have been strict nutritional ketosis for going on 9 months. I must be a responder. I rarely ever get hungry unless I add too many carbs. I think it also matters how broken your body is.

I've never used supplements, but the ketogenic diet has a very noticeable appetite suppression effect for me, unlike any other way of eating I've ever tried (and I've tried a lot).

Been keto/carnivore for over 10 years, about a year in it stopped working as well, starting gaining slowly after losing 30lbs and becoming quite slim. But I kept at it because it worked better than anything else. Last year I finally crept back up to 30lbs overweight again on strict keto almost carnivore. Something had to change, but I didn't know what. So I dramatically lowered fat intake for a more PSMF keto approach and now losing weight rapidly, 10lbs in the first month. The diet is even harder than keto, but can't argue with results after so many tough years of slow motion gaining. So keto responder...yes? But not high fat. Looking back, when I gained my first 5lbs back was when everyone was doing those 5k cal/day experiments and not gaining weight, so I upped my fat freely and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working as well. Maria Emmerich is right, if keto is not working, try PSMF in cycles.
@carnivoreforlife671727 күн бұрын
Forgive my ignorance but What is PSMF?
@lmd401427 күн бұрын
@@carnivoreforlife6717 It means Protein Sparing Modified Fast which means having protein and very little fat so that your body can use your stored fat. I think Maria Emmerich says 1-3 days per week recommended if you stuck. For me, OMAD with high fat-moderate protein and carbs under 20 gets me the best ketones and lowest morning glucose. It took me 15 months to figure that out or else my body just needed that much time to get better at ketone production.

Fascinating! In my case keto suppress some appetite, but anxiety has its biggest share. I know, it’s complicated! In a multi factorial context, I try to use AI because MANOVA doesn’t work well.
@nicknorwitzPhD28 күн бұрын
Sorry, didn't get some of this. Are you saying your anxiety improves on a KD? And how does AI play in?
