Definitely, I would be a high handicapper if I played competitions and have many styles of irons I buy secondhand. I hit the blades or blade style MBs like anything else sometimes better as it helps to concentrate. Just have other irons available for the majority of the time.

I've started last octobre, playing second hand mp20 3-pw, and it just feels amazing when I properly hit them, terrible if i dont. Gives me an incentive to strike them true even tho my handicap could be lower, I hope it will pay off in the long run. I'd like to see you and Josh hit 3iron blades !
@davidcooper33179 ай бұрын
Cant understand WHY these days bladed clubs are set for stiff shaft options only. You get better feel off bladed clubs and the strike is purer. Offset clubs let you get away with bad shots. Its all down to the shafts.. a soft regular shaft in a blade when hit properly is sheer joy. I played with Wilson Staff Fg49s with regular R400 True temper steel shafts. They were awesome. Now got Takomo 101Ts with Senior Graphite shafts. I strike the ball cleaner with blades... I always struggled with offset clubs .. either hit the ball early or late..
@brentcolson62535 ай бұрын
I play blades, because I honestly prefer to see less behind the ball, helps me stay focused on the front of the ball. The other piece is coming from baseball I have a tendency to de-loft clubs slightly at impact so it helps me get the ball up to what you would probably consider "normal" for a hollow face. I do find my bad strikes have a higher dispersion, but I have less of them. I also play a fairly short course, so I rarely need to hit 4,5,6. 90% of the time I only hit them on the range because I still want to work on them. I can say some days I just stripe them and other days I dont think it matters what club is in my hand a toddler would beat me.

I bought a set of Mizuno 221 blades as a 10 handicap player. I never found them hard to hit and they went almost as far as my stronger lofted previous irons. After a year of play and practice, I strike the ball better than I ever have and I hit them about a full club farther than I hit the old clubs. I love the look and feel and couldn't be happier with them. Maybe not for everybody, but they have worked for me. I don't think blades are really that hard to hit. I think KZbin hypes the difficulty too much.

MP20s are some of the most "forgiving" blades I've ever hit. I play the Taylormade P7mb and had the Titleist 718 previously and they are far more punishing on off center strikes. Mizuno us trending in the direction of smaller clubheads, thinner toplines etc. The 241 is not as easy to hit as the MP20.

I wanted to try a set of blades and decided to buy a set of second hand Mizuno MP18s last year. I have been using PXG 0211s for the last couple of years and got down to an 18 handicap. Practiced with the blades hit them really well, something about the small head makes you concentrate on the strike. Played my 2 best ever rounds with the Mizunos of 80 and a 76. I found very similar results regarding yardage, despite the loft changes I was only a couple of yards shorter on most clubs but the stoppage on the green was amazing. Definitely worth a try if you’re curious. I got the Mizunos from EBay for less than £200 and they are mint.

So about a year ago I could not break 100 consistently. Would shoot a 100-102 on average. At the time I was gaming TaylorMade Stealth HD irons. Gradually my game improved, and when I say I put the practice in, I PUT THE PRACTICE IN. Consistently shoot about 81-85 now, which if I had to guess would be about a 9-10 handicap. (I don't keep a handicap). I say all that to get to this point in the present day. Currently I am going back and forth between gaming my Sub 70 MB/CB set and my Takomo 301CBs. Interestingly I hit my Sub 70s just a smidge farther but not by much. The muscle backs in the Sub 70 set are 6-PW and I honestly have no problem being able to hit them consistently. Granted they are no RF butter knife. However with that said I wanted to give a big THANK YOU to Alex for all the helpful tips that I have incorporated into my game to get me to this point. Without Alex and a few others here on KZbin I do not think I would even be leaving this comment about playing with blades and cavity back players irons. To be on topic and answer the posed by Alex in the video I hit the following clubs this far with my Takomo 301CBs 9 Iron-125-130 yards 7 Iron 145-155 yards 4 Iron 175-180 yards By no means am I a distance hitter, however I have improved a lot. I play forged tecs too and have similar experiences to Josh. As much as the blades are lovely, hitting off mats on the flat does not reflect course conditions which may have rough, slopes and variety of lies. Also strike with the long irons will fail more with blades. Don’t let one good range session with blade go to your head. If you want to score properly, golf is hard make it easy for yourself. As a mid-handicapper, I find my "game improvement" Mizuno 921 Hot Metal irons... unpredictable. F.e. I hit my 8 iron around 145-150y. Typically. But sometimes, when the gods of golf give me a touch, and my swing gets a bit better, once in a round - I hit it 190. I had shots even over 200y. Moreover, with their offset, I started to hit a lot of left misses. That is why I am in the market for smth "more pro". I have an old set of McGregor VIP forged irons. Compared to those, these RF blades are baby toys... 7 iron is 35 degrees and looks like this RF blade 4 iron. 5 is so small that it is hard to say if there is any head on this shaft... They were marked as "better player irons". For me, their biggest advantage is that they are dead straight. I don't know why, I hit them on the line almost every time. I just too often end up too short, I am not good enough for them. Not yet, not yet, but...

I found the drop off in distance between the 'forgiving' clubs' distance, so 9-7-4 was 32-19 yards, vs the RF blades which 9 -7-4 was 26 - 28 yards the most compelling reason for choosing blades. On these (very limited agreed) shots, there seems a greater consistency in change of iron to length of shot in the blades. Of course, you do have to be able to hit the damned things....

I’ve been playing the RF Rev33s for about 6-7 months now. I love them, but you can’t just chuck them at a ball, the amount of side spin you can put on defies logic, so you HAVE to have a good swing path. But the distance control is perfect, if you know the distance and flush it, it’s guaranteed on the green!

I think the blades look great despite the top line being narrower. The blades are for good and consistent ball strikers and if you can hit the middle of the club every time then they are great. However most handicap golfers are not consistent and this is where the distance varies in playing the irons. Also the loft will have an impact in the distance the ball goes. I think if you are a consistent ball striker then the blades are definitely the scoring clubs and I love the look of them. The other clubs top line looks chunky and does not give me confidence it appears as though it is too cumbersome and not a nice clean and neat look. Blades for me every time!

I mean, really cool video--legitimately cool--the thing that's frustrating about all(?) these types of videos is that you're just comparing the clubs with the same number on the sole, when you should really be comparing clubs with the same (or as close as possible) loft. Like, Josh's 7 vs the Rickie 6 (or whatever)--now that's a fair fight, and actually more interesting, in my opinion. Because the reality is that most of us with distance irons carry 4 wedges (5, if you include the set PW), and when getting into traditionally lofted clubs, we get to ditch one of those.

It's a shame that so many golfers will never know the joy of playing a set of blades because Titleist, Taylormade, and the rest of the big equipment companies are selling the latest and greatest "tech" to golfers that don't really need it. Every decent golfer should have at least a decent set of used blades in the garage that they can use to learn how to strike the ball and interact with the turf properly. Long live bladed irons.

I disagree I think he should use them, blades will improve your swing. If you can accept the I’d bad swing I think you will see an overall improvement. Honestly it may even improve guys strike with his putter.

That swing does not look like a regular "mid handicap" iron swing.... No wonder he can hit a bladed iron with such a consistent movement 👍🏻. The handicap doesn't tell the whole story of a player's swing 😉. Because of that I don't like the category "mid handicapper irons" etc.

I don’t think Ricky ever actually played them. I’ve read he didn’t like what they made for him.

Don’t buy the hype. Blades are superior in every way other than club OEMs being able to market their special tech. Blades will produce more consistent dispersion and will also facilitate the most important part of the game which is allowing the player to improve via feedback.

Acceptable yes! i you like them , play them! but i dont believe they give the best result to many mid-handicappers! for me, big no! i need a club that inspires a lot confidence! i might be a high hcp though, im hcp 17. at the moment i play Wilson D9:s. and they are big and forgiving

to me the blades just suit my eyes and are confident inspiring to me, maybe I am weird but I play better with blades. coming from baseball for 17 years, aim small miss small.

Why is everyone so utterly obsessed with distances? As if that's the only thing to an iron. Trajectory, stopping power, peak height, all better with a blade. So i'm hitting into a green at 170 and mishit and come up 20 yards short, i've got a chip onto the green. Hit a CB into a green and roll off the back. Chip on. No difference. Why does nobody mention that you should be hitting to the back of the green incase of a mishit? So instead of 170 i hit to 190 and if i come up short or don't absolutely pure it i'm gonna hit the green still. All just distance distance distance which doesn't mean anything at all. If you want to go further take more club.

Hi Michael!! What do you think of the irons??

If you're hitting ball first, sole size shouldn't make any difference.

Mate , the state of your clubs are disgraceful! Reminds me of mine…
@froodogga70536 ай бұрын
nobody over a 6 or 7 handicap should ever, EVER, use blades...they are not forgiving...waste of money and time unless you are a consistent ball striker.

I game the Vega/J Lindberg vmb blades Alex Pure blade but the pitching wedge is 44 degrees There's a reason why I'm the handicap I am... I play a lot of golf solo and playing in a fourball at the weekend in a medal where suddenly people want to take forever lining up a three footer for bogey or changing which club they're going to hit from 65 yards three times until they then duff it for the third time in a row bores me. I can't concentrate and I get into my flow.

Sell them to him. He gets very good results with blades he had no confidence hitting what will he be like with confidence?
@thomasthacker49396 ай бұрын
A golfer with that quality of swing needs to forget forgiveness and start working with feedback. Advanced clubs are better in the bag. I know and respect the data, but playing hollow bodies thru the set for comfort is not going to help.
@amazingrazin6 ай бұрын
You were inconsistent with all of them. That’s why you’re mid handicap.
