@wgcds7jyg897 This was back in the era of the production codes, saying the word "pregnant" would make people think of how she got that way. This was back in the day when every married couple on television slept in twin beds, and if they were both shown on the same one, at least three of their feet had to be visibly touching the floor.

@johnnguyen3768 They actually had the scripts for the seven episodes where she was pregnant on the show reviewed by a priest, a minister, and a rabbi in order to not offend anyone's religious sensibilities. She was pregnant in real life during the filming of the first 18 episodes of the shows second season, which included the pregnancy storyline and the 5 episodes after. To cover the fact that she really was pregnant in the episodes after the baby was born on the show, they only filmed her standing behind furniture or from her shoulders up. In a bit of a twist, this episode where she goes to the hospital aired on the same day that she gave birth in real life.

I believe one of the bedrocks of the respective characters of the Ricardos and the Mertzes was that Lucy and Ricky constantly had sex- easy to imagine- but Fred and Ethel never had sex- impossible to imagine. So this episode, albeit funny, is somewhat creepy.
