Der Synodale Weg, or The Synodal Path is a controversial project of the Catholic Church in Germany, and some are worried that there could be a new schism within the church because of it.

Martin only preached the Bible, and what did he get for that? Persecution and one word from the pope and i quote "retract" they could not defend themselves from scripture but martin stood firm on the point that your so called infallible church is contrary to that standard which God has given to His body. You catholics ask where does the Bible say the Bible alone. Tho scripture does not contain those words "the Bible alone", it does however contain the idea that all experiences and doctrines should be tested by the word of God and if its not in sync with scripture it should be disregarded. Isaiah 8:20 KJV - To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. There is no light in the papacy. Nowhere in scripture is indulgences mentioned. Nowhere in scripture is the seventh day sabbath called explicitly a Jewish day. The sabbath was made for man and not man for the sabbath. Sunday is a spurious sabbath nowhere are we told to observe it as a holy day. The Seventh day is the sabbath and is the sign that God is our creator for in six days He created the heavens and the earth then rested on the seventh day not the first day which your church so arrogantly set up as her mark of authority. Isaiah58:13If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. Nowhere in scripture is worshipping marry exceptable. You dont worship mary? the Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures, the verb proskuneo is used to translate various Hebrew verbs, including the words for "bow", "kiss", "serve" and "worship". The Apostle Peter does not allow Cornelius to proskuneo before him, in Acts 10:25-26; In the book of Revelation, the angel also refuses proskynesis from the narrator (John) in Rev 19:10 and Rev 22:8-9. Your idols of mary think not neither can they speak. Exodus20:1¶And God spake all these words, saying, 2I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Malachi 3:6 KJV - For I am the LORD, I change not; Your so called infallible church has done nothing but persecute the saints of The Most High. She trampled upon His law, she has made it void. Come out of this idolatrous, backslidin whore called Babylon lest ye take part of her sins and receive of her plagues.

@@annb9029 Look at it this way: If having sex at all is already considered wrong, amd having sex with children is considered wrong, then the jump from one to another isn't as big as it is for most people. Add to that the fact that priests are generally trusted members of the community, with easy access to children. Children are less likely to resist or denounce abuse, because they don't know what's going on. Rampant pedophilia in the heart of the Holy See has been a fact since the middle ages. It's spoken of in Luther's writings and he does say the mandatory celibacy is related to it, but not for the reasons people give today. Luther's argument was that mandatory celibacy, which he called a doctrine of demons, was the devil's playground for clergy who were taught to think it made them closer to God, allowing the devil to ensare them with traps and scandals. Consider that back then teenage boys were regularly enrolled in monasteries. From that time on they were forced into a lifetime of works-based piety and sexual confusion that could produce some very ugly fruit down the road.

In Germany, whether a person “leaves the church” may be more of a tax question than a religious or theological question. If a German identifies himself as Catholic, Protestant, or Jewish, he is required to pay a “church tax” which is deducted from his paycheck. Depending on where the person lives, the “church tax” is equal to 8% or 9% of the amount the person pays in income tax. The government collects the tax and then distributes it to the church, less an administrative handling fee. The only way to avoid paying the “church tax” is to disaffiliate with the church. Persons who have “no religion” are not liable to pay the “church tax.” A person who leaves the church will not be able to have children baptized in the church, nor will he be able to marry or have his funeral in the church. A person who disaffiliates with the church is required to pay a one-time fee. A lot of Germans pay the “church tax” out of habit or inertia, but as more of them become dissatisfied with the church, and cease to be as active as they once were, they will leave formally. What would be great is if Germany could eliminate the “church tax” and remove the financial disincentive and see where membership and participation goes from there.

@@anarchorepublican5954 You are correct. The First Amendment originally was not applicable to the states, and there were established churches through 1833. In the 1940s, though, the Supreme Court held that the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause were binding on the states by virtue of the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. See Cantwell v. Connecticut (1940) and Everson v. Board of Education (1947). As for “separation of church and state,” that phrase does not appear in the Constitution, but consider: under the Constitution, as written, and as later interpreted, neither Congress nor the states may make an establishment of religion or prohibit the free exercise thereof thereof, and no religious test may be imposed as a qualification to hold office (Article VI). Given all that, I do not see how church and state could be anything other than separate. Watch out for Clarence Thomas, though, as he wants to overturn “substantive due process” cases. Cantwell and Everson were decided on that basis. Of course, Clarence will be a hypocrite until he recognizes that Loving v. Virginia (1967) was a substantive due process case and votes to overturn it. Marriage is not mentioned in the Constitution and is historically left to the states to regulate, and states were considered free to prohibit interracial marriages if they wanted to. See Pace v. Alabama (1884). Clarence really needs to ponder what his life would be like if his view of the Constitution were still followed.

Until recently, American Protestant leaders blame sex abuse as a "Catholic problem" and fail to discuss sex abuse problems. It is not just an issue of making certain faith look bad; it is about minimizing power abuse. Such a change can't exist without the younger generation of Protestants that start questioning the past abuses within their own denomination. The same thing can be said about non-religious groups: sports teams, academia, showbiz, workplace, business, military edit: places that are neglected, like orphanages, detention centers, prisons, or poor neighborhoods, will always have higher risks.

One thing I have never understood about this - was why the Catholic church so "hands off" when dealing with misbehaving priests; seriously they were breaking their oath to God to be celibate by having sex. Organizations hide (or attempt to hide) stuff all the time and it should be noted; I am not talking about that. In some case clearly people in power were told exactly what happened and the priests weren't immediately defrocked. Why is a priest breaking an oath considered not serious? Is child-molestation not considered having sex?

Catholic priests don't take an oath to God to be celibate. They take a vow of obedience to their bishop who, in the West, requires they remain celibate. There are in fact many married Catholic priests elsewhere in the world. They weren't defrocked or otherwise punished for a host of reasons: severe priest shortage, Catholic belief in conversion of heart and repentance, the desire to give them another chance, etc. But it was foolish to move them to another parish because they obviously endangered more children and youth.

The Church has lost any judicial authority, and the Scriptures teach us to handle Church matters "in Church", as not to bring shame on the Church by going before secular courts. I despise the act of child abuse, and would rather see a millstone tied to an abusers neck and them thrown in a river. But the Churches hands are kind of tied, as is. If you hand abuse "in Church", without judicial authority, you can't meet the requirements for justice. You deny the Bible. If you take the abuser before the courts to seek justice, you bring open shame to the Church. You deny the Bible. Maybe I've overthought it, but it seems like a lose/lose situation for the Church. Giving the matters of morality over to the secular governments has been a nightmare. [To note, I would still rather see an abuser taken before courts, and punished, rather than it to be handled "in Church" with no judicial authority. If they're, truly, both sinful -- going before the courts seems to be the least sinful, in this instance.]

The exodus of Anglicans to the Catholic Church is monumental. We felt the sudden rush in some cities. Ironically their services are more old-school than Novus Ordo, so you can tell if a Parish is Anglican-inspired by the number of times you hear “thou” and “thy” and if the Vestments are gold-ish green instead of deep green :) Also Boy Scouts has imploded because it chose donations from left-wing companies over…. The conservative Boy Scouts and their families. They are now almost completely gone from all facets of society.

And how would you like to account for declining numbers in every other denomination? Both sides aren’t reading the room. Most of us would like to go to church, take our sacraments, worship our God, and visit our fellow parishioners during coffee hour after mass. One side wants to bludgeon everyone with a lecture about why homosexuality is the GRAVEST sin while the other wants to rainbow-fy the church. Both are annoying and distract from what people want which is to just go to church and worship our God without feeling like they have to tell their gay brother that he’s going to hell or reciting the heretical sparkle creed.

Platina writes that it is for this reason that Pope Pius is reported to have said that although there are reasons why marriage was taken away from the priests, there are far more important reasons why it should be given back. Authority is what God gives to those in power, whether as judgement and punishment, or for nations of God's people, He blesses them with just authorities, those authorities come from above, it is not man who gives but God allows them for which man is complicit in adhering to and thus then responsible for, this not from and never will be from below, this is God's standard and has always been. Its iterated numerous times in the OT for which Jesus, Paul, and Peter all reiterate and affirm once again. No man rules himself, just as no house is without a ruling head, so too is each man ruled by a king. This is the demonstration authority comes down. (but neither does this justify always listening to the rulers of the world, but instead to honor them for all rulers were placed there by God) "In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes." - Judges 21:25 "They said, “Caesar's.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” - Matthew 22:21 "Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they marveled at him." - Mark 12:17 "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God." - Romans 31:1 "Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work," - Titus 3:1 "Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme," - 1 Peter 2:13

@@baneofbanes "yah if that was the case Kings would still be the norm." The premise does not follow. It should be that way, God's perfect design is by kingship for all other ways lead to destruction, just as Jesus is the only King and all other ways lead to destruction. He is the demonstrative figure of perfect living and rulership just as much as the Savior. "The Bible says a lot of things, many of which aren’t true." Show me where the Bible is wrong. "Power is ultimately from the people." You don't even believe that, else you would not believe in the concept of government enforcing laws. The concept of government is top-down authority still. The concept of bottom-up authority is a myth, democracy is logically invalid and unsound (as it requires government authority to be top-down but claims to work from bottom-up when it never does) since its contradictive, suggesting one premises of the idea is wrong, it still operates on top-down authority principals, else it can't enforce law. "Hence why kings go so far out of their way to convince you that they’re appointed by God." All rulers are appointed by God, there is no head of state, no representative in office, nor power nor authority in any metric at all without God's appointment, whether that be for judgement and punishment or as a blessing.

I would also make reference to the final communiqué on the adlimina visit, which extraordinarily reads "for now, we agree to disagree". This is in no way envisaged by the documents of Vatican II, e.g. Lumen Gentium (Episcopal Unity = Collegiality). Other denominations don't claim to have an infallible mortal head. Think about it, imagine someone who can speak from the "Chair of Peter" declaring that those who refuse to affirm gay sex as holy are in sin for being bigots. Trad Catholics would claim this is impossible without the Holy Spirit killing the Pope who did that. Everyone else knows better, including the German Synodal sect who are building toward that goal.

As Catholics, they hold that the Catholic Church is the one true church. You don't just leave for another denomination like that. The Church has changed its doctrine on particular issues before, look at the Counter-Reformation and at how the sin of usury was redefined in the early modern period. They simply want more reform.

This seems kind of random though, the original problem they were trying to solve was not that priests kept having affairs or that people were upset that there were no female priests. It was that the church had a number of know child predators in their ranks and did nothing. It’s all well and good to say that we need to better understand human sexuality but i don’t think any understanding of human sexuality is going to are the general problem okay with what was going on at the start of this whole thing. It feels like they decided it was easier to begin adopting popular policies, like endorsing gay relationships, to get some positive PR in the news and distract people from the crisis while doing literally nothing to address the actual problem. I guess it is a more novel approach to what usually happens which is the church just kind of shrugs and says “ya that sure was a shame wasn’t it.”
@TheWorldBroadcast
@TheWorldBroadcast Жыл бұрын
It's a really dumb thing, because these Bishops caused this problem and blame their own rules rather than the actual problem the person, mainly themselves and the predators. So we throw chastity out the window, and love, and marriage, and sexuality as it is traditionally understood because they say that the way those things are structured lead people to sin against them, when that's an extremely stupid argument. We have laws against murder, but murder does not increase because we ban it.

I mean that was the proposed solution during the first reformation. Let's solve a systemic issue of corruption by leaving an organized hierarchical church structure and making our own smaller church which will end up being way more vulnerable to false doctrine, corruption, and abuse than the catholic church was in the first place.

while there are certainly some liberal Christians that only seek to conform the faith to their own beliefs, there is also a genuine history of higher criticism in Biblical interpretation that seeks to make sense of the Bible out of a genuine search of truth. Rationalism and the Enlightenment may have introduced many beliefs that have denied core doctrines like the Resurrection, but ppl don't seem to recognize how it also taught ppl to recognize scholarly historicity in the Bible as opposed to completely factual literalism, and this tradition continues today in trying to understand the meaning of what the Bible's authors are trying to convey in the context of where they are. Even Vatican II is considered a hugely liberal council when you consider former doctrines such as inclusivism, the vernacular, worship, etc.

This is an Orthodox giving my two cents. Those Germans really need to evaluate whether they truly want to be Catholic. As Christians we should not bend the church to us. It seems that we are truly in the end times. St Paul warned that there would be a great falling away and people would chase after teachers who would tell them what they want to hear. We will all have to give an account of our lives to the Great Judge one day, but those who are Overseers (bishops) will also have to give an account of their stewardship.
