So i would recommend to not buy the 20 dollars card because i have one of these and it lies and says you can capture in 1080p 60fps but its really 30 fps, the only way to capture in 60 fps is to use 720p 60fps
@memorytheme43049 ай бұрын
Those cheap capture cards may capture in 60FPS , but it looks choppy and it looks like it records in 30 FPS and reencode it to 60 FPS , definitely not as smooth as the elgato capture cards , i hope it make sense what I'm trying to say.Great video btw 👍

Definitely! I recommend Elgato any day, but I was there back in high school/college wanting to stream and didn’t have the funds for the equipment. Wish I knew I could get decent results for $20 for the time being. This video was partially made for people in that position. Otherwise, Elgato all the way 😂

@@DatSamurai This is much appreciated. I wanna stream Heavy Rain to some friends since I have never played it but since it's just a between friends and not streaming on Twitch then it will work just fine for me. I also think the if you're just doing cozy gaming that it will do the job just fine but if you are doing fast action games where that framerate matters definitely try to spend the money if and when you can. I know many people will say "just save up and get the ElGato" but, like you said, some people are on a budget and simply will be saving up for quite a while....until the next card comes around and then they will tell you to skip that card and save for the latest, more expensive one. I know that quite often you get what you pay for and it's true, sometimes you should spend the extra money but you should also consider what your intended use is. I know many people are gonna hate this comparison but it's like telling someone they should buy a souped up sports car with a V12 as a commuter car when a 2.0L will do the job just fine.

Do they work with Chromebooks? Or do you need to use OBS to record?
@DatSamurai9 ай бұрын
Capture cards work to capture your HDMI device onto your compute. OBS Is just one optional software you can use to stream and record. You can try StreamLabs OBS or any other software that works best for you.

This is really interesting. Obviously the high-end Elgato is gonna look better, but I'm genuinely not so sure they look ENOUGH better to justify a 5-10-fold price difference. I'm thinking of getting into streaming, (primarily with Nintendo Switch, so I wouldn't even really need some 4K 240FPS type thing, I'd just need it to look good at 1080-60) and I'm really considering the ups of choosing a budget capture card. What's the latency like on these?
@neondouble_26 күн бұрын
I have one. They're not noticeable if you do the setup right. I know because I initially messed up something (can't remember what) and thought it was garbage because of the high latency but if you're not a dummy like me you'll be fine
@DatSamurai26 күн бұрын
Exactly ^ Latency is pretty much the same. The difference is the frame rate you are playing at.

Passthrough? Im lost, how can you call something Passthrough if it does not have an hdmi out? Passthrough means that you capture the image and still have a monitor showing off the image being captured. Passthrough means that you have a capture card that has a hdmi input, an USB output (that is the recording) and an hdmi out, so you have the monitor. this cards dont have a Passthrough because they usually are used for cameras and you dont need the image to be on a monitor.
@AlexandreCalvario8 ай бұрын
The Passthrough thing you meant on your video is the Input Resolutions that are compatible. NOT Passthrough at all! The Passthrough thing is the ones that you didnt need an HDMI Splitter! thats Passthrough.
@DatSamurai8 ай бұрын
@@AlexandreCalvario Yo! Yes, you are correct, and that was my mistake. The first two cards should be referred to as "Output resolution" not "passthrough". However, you will still need to spilt the HDMI signal to use an external monitor. I should have put "supported input resolution" & "output resolution" as labels for the first two cards. The Mirabox and the Elgato cards all have true passthrough. I apologize for the confusion. In any case, I recommend Elgato's cards because they are solid and are specifically made for capturing gameplay. Thanks for the correction 🙏🏾

I just watched this and I want to use this as an input for a disco club. As DJs often want to send video synced with music to ledwalls. @@DatSamurai So the quality will not be as affected because the led walls arent even close to 720p resolution. Even for webcams these cards seem just fine. because usually streamers dont even have their webcams full screen. in this case, dlsr cameras.
@DatSamurai8 ай бұрын
@@AlexandreCalvario Oh that's an interesting use case! I'm a video guy by profession but not too privy to DJ setups. I think the $17-20 cards should work fine as well since they output up to 1080p. I personally use an Elgato CamLink with a mirrorless sony for my webcam for streams. Great quality, but might be too much for your use case maybe. Good luck with your Disco Club!

Thinking about getting a Mirabox over the Elgato's just because I am a hobby streamer and do not have a lot of spare cash to drop on the more expensive Elgato's. Are the Mirabox (I noticed their are 2 of them) worth it?
@DatSamurai7 ай бұрын
I've never streamed long-term with them, but they get the job done. I always recommend Elgato no matter what the because they are solid.

To see you PS4 on your TV you need one for the super cheap cards ($17 & $20 ones). If you get the Mirabox you don’t need a splitter.

Do you need an HDMI splitter, if you have several outputs on your GPU and set your windows multi-monitor settings as "Duplicate" ?
@DatSamurai7 ай бұрын
The 2 cheapest cards are USB so you won’t be plugging them into a HDMI port. You’ll need a splitter if you want to still play your system natively and not through your streaming preview screen. The cheap capture cards are input only. The Mirabox has both an input and output HDMI so you don’t need to split the signal, it does it for you.
@WalaUlo7 ай бұрын
@@DatSamurai 100% not what I am asking
@DatSamurai7 ай бұрын
Yeah I figured. Can you explain what you mean by your question then? Seems like you’re doing a duel PC setup but I’m not sure why you’d need a splitter for that since a PC can output multiple hdmi feeds…
@WalaUlo7 ай бұрын
@@DatSamurai But what would I need a capture card for, if I was not running a dual PC setup? You would simply just broadcast directly via eg. OBS. He litterally said in the video, that you need an HDMI splitter, if you choose the versions without passthrough. I disagree on that statement. If it's for performance issues, there are several easier ways to handle that.
@DatSamurai7 ай бұрын
@WalaUlo this video is from the perspective of console streamers. Consoles need a card for OBS/SLOBS streaming. Since the console only has one output port, you’ll need to split that hdmi signal to play on another monitor/tv while the card passes through the other signal to your PC. But if you are streaming from a single PC, then you don’t need a card like you said. But a dual PC, you need some way to capture your game on your streaming PC, thus a card is needed but not a splitter as the PC has multiple HDMI outputs and can mirror the display that’s being captured. So in your case with one PC for gaming and then streaming that game on the same PC, you don’t need a capture card. Just have two HDMIs and capture your gameplay from the other display. Or you can use Nvidia’s game capture software to do it, or Streams… PC is very versatile.
