Good information but a little contradictory when mixing advice for what a pool service tech would do versus a homeowner. In warm summer months a commercial tech MUST use tabs to stretch his visits to every week because liquid chlorine just won’t last 7 days. A homeowner can completely AVOID tabs but instead using very small doses of liquid chlorine every few days to easily maintain a level of 2-4ppm. The allure of the tabs is convenience but the inevitable curse of elevated CYA makes them unsuitable as a private sanitizer. I only use them when going on vacation or it several consecutive days of rain predicted. I never use them in the off season (winter) because algae growth is so easy to avoid

I think you put together an excellent professional video. I was searching for details on how to use chlorine dioxide effervescent tablets. I don't even have a pool & I paid attention to your explanation, opinion & fact checking. Good job👏👏👏

are those just disposable latex gloves? I keep seeing people say to use rubber gloves. Does it matter?

Awesome video! I’m a new pool owner in South Florida. I have done non stop research on chlorine tabs and liquid chlorine. This video makes it easy to understand. THANK YOU!

My 20 years of real world “research”… Liquid chlorine as the primary sanitizer. Tabs only as a supplement during hottest months of the season or vacation. Absolutely avoid tabs once CYA level reaches 60ppm. Shock pool with cal hypo whenever COMBINED chlorine reaches 0.2ppm. For ultimate protection add BORATES at 30-50ppm and you will never see algae again

I'm a new pool guy with a few pools, and I just don't get this CYA stuff. I have some pools with CYA over 200, (some at 300) and some at 40. I don't see any difference as far as chemical needs. I'm in AZ and the UV index hits 10 every day, for most of the day. Liquid Chlorine just does not last at all. Guess I'll learn all about it in a few months.

Will the acid go away of its own with time I had three tabs in a floating chlorinator and now my acid is at high 70s and my chlorine level is 15

Stabilizer levels only decrease with dilution of water
@johnrivera80095 жыл бұрын
So what is the recommended way to manage the stabilizer levels over time when using tabs.
@docdeanspools5 жыл бұрын
Diluting the pool. As long as the pool is being used and tabs aren’t being abused it generally isn’t a problem but it’s something we have to keep our eyes on

@@docdeanspools "as long as the pool is being used," why does this help with managing the CYA? Does it attach to clothing?
@johnrivera80095 жыл бұрын
I was recently told to use shock as my main form of chlorine and tabs as supplemental chlorine. Never heard of that before.

Shock isn’t actually chlorine. “Shock” is what happens when Chlorine levels are drastically increased. Check out our chemistry basics video about chlorine for sure.
