@@rafaeljimenez5024 I have managed to knock it out with a product called "Yellow Out". Keep in mind you have to do follow-ups afterward. Sprinkle Yellow Out in the pool, wait five minutes, add lots of chlorine, wait 24 hours and add more chlorine. Also, don't forget to brush with a steel brush. I hope this helps.

I am up in Delaware and our family pool has had Mustard Algae for a few years now. Year after year we have just been hitting it with shock and algaecide as the local stores have recommended. The pool is my father's baby so its really his deal but lately he has asked for help cause of COVID and being swamped with work so im learning a bit about the pool now lol. We have a 22,000gal in-ground plaster pool with direct sunlight. D.E Filter runs about 10=12hrs a day during normal daylight hours. Have a ray-vac in to do its little thing. Overall im going to work on getting my Chlorine levels to a solid and stable level but also this weekend im going to do a full sanitation of equipment and toys to eliminate anything outside the pool that can be re-introduced. Hopefully with a good shock and some other treatment we can finally get a handle on it.

Will mustard algae always stick to the side of the pool? I have lines of... algae? only on the bottom of my pool. It looks light colored (light tan-ish yellowish), but there isn't any on the side of the pool and it's all grouped in lines on the bottom of the pool. Does mustard algae do that??

Could be, if it brushes away like this does then most likely yes. If not you may have a more serious issue

i am at a loss with trying to remove mustard algae. i have about 30,000 gallons. i used 4lbs yellow out with 4 lbs of super powder shock. i vacuumed on waste the following day. 48 hours after treatment, i thought i had gotten rid of it like the store advised me. by the 3rd day, the algae started to appear in the same spots. i used another round of yellow out and shock. by the 3rd day again, it started to show up. this is a saltwater pool with a sand filter. i noticed the flow from the waste on the filter was not a steady flow, water was shooting out in pockets of small blowouts. is that from air getting in the waste line or loose pipe? i decided to change to backwash to see if the flow was any better and it was. i forgot to put in on rinse and when i put it back on filter mode, all this brown/yellow crap entered the pool. probably because it has been 4 weeks since i last backwash/rinse the filter. i have been vacuuming on waste so there was no need to backwash/rinse. seeing all the algae shooting out of the return lines in the pool, do i need to change the sand? it is 4 years old. any suggestions? do i double the amount of yellow out/shock to 8 lbs to super shock the water?

Will mustard algae sometimes look like DE on the floor of the pool? I fought a DE leaking issue and eventually replaced the multivalve port and entire DE filter as replacing spider gasket, grids and manifold on old equipment didn't fix it. After a bit, I was getting what I thought was DE still, but noticed it looked more yellow, and the liner was a bit slippery. My levels have all been good. Pool is 20k gallons, FC roughly 2ppm, CC between 0 and .5ppm, pH 7.4, TA 70 to 80ppm, CYA is just touching the 30 on my Taylor test kit, so it may be a little low, my Calcium hardness is a little low at 130. With pool being liner I figured I'd get that up when I correct all the other issues. What is concerning is I cannot tell if I STILL have a DE issue or if it is algae. The walls don't have any discoloring, nor does the floor. It just looks like specs of whatever (basically looks like the DE did with more color). I did apply Yellow Out followed by a couple pounds of powdered shock. I have been keeping the Chlorine level up, but not at the 20ppm you suggested. I planned to get more powered shock today (basically just more economical than the liquid shock). Should I just continue to vacuum to waste and get chlorine up to 20ppm?

I'm losing my mind. I'm cleaning my filter at least every other day and adding shock every day or every other day. The free chlorine just disappears and this dusty algae just comes back. Brushing daily as well. At first the cya was at zero but I fixed that and still the chlorine doesn't stay. I had a puck that is supposed to be for 2500 gallons and did nothing. Hth told me not to use it because my pool is only 1000 gallons above ground. I don't get what is going on. I've also used Clorox algaecide a couple of times after double shocking.

I have a small above ground pool with algae in it. I’ve used both clarifier and algaecide. Nothing is working. The pool is 12 ft by 3 ft deep. How much should I put in of each chemical?
@docdeanspools
@docdeanspools 3 жыл бұрын
We don’t really specialize in above ground pools and persistent algae like that could be a lot of things. Could be phosphate, TDS, chlorine lock etc. Easiest to probably drain and refresh

@@docdeanspools I’m pretty sure it’s mustard algae. I tried vacuuming it, but just got cloudy. When it’s settled on the bottom the water looks clean. I balanced all the chemicals, but have this problem and it the reading keeps saying the water has high metals (already put the anti-scale in it). When we first filled the pool our water was a greenish-blue color, so I think there was too much copper from old piping to start. We left it without treating it covered since it was still too cold to swim in the Bay Area. When I clean my cartridge filter the paper looks brown.

Try a new filter. Above ground pools are difficult due the more extreme variety of parts used but consistent sediment after sequestering with something like a descale agent, usually the filter is coming to the end of its life

4 years ago we had mustard algae and treated it with an algaecide - done. This year we have spent more time and money trying to get rid of it. I'm not sure what the road block is. Three weeks ago we tried treating with the triple shock method. Algae was totally resistant to it. Then the following week we got a bromide product that the pool store recommended and we used it with another triple shock. This week we tried an algaecide treatment. No luck. We have a variable speed pump that we run 24/7 Twice we have done a deep clean on our sand filter (with glass media) We brush 1-2 daily and vacuum and backwash 1-2 weekly right now All pool toys, equipment and suits have been sanitized, twice! Any suggestions?

Could be phosphate, chlorine lock from having too high a stabilizer level or the TDS is super high from all the chemicals they told you to put in.

@@docdeanspools Thanks for the quick reply. It is phosphates! Tested over 1000. We won't forget about phosphates again. Better yet we need to be more preventative. Do you recommend a maintenance or preventative algaecide?

Algatec is good for prevention a dose every couple of months along with good filter maintenance and chemistry balance will keep most issues down.

@docdeanspools

If it’s already drained, a light chlorine wash on a cement surface can help stubborn algae. If its acrylic/fiberglass a hose wash is usually enough.

If you used enough it’s possible, it’s pretty standard to use for light algae blooms in non-bromine pools
