Completely disagree. Musicians should hike ticket prices as high as they possibly can, through whatever means they can. We’re now 30 plus years- or more- into the era of the general public deciding to systematically steal the work of musicians online. And in every way possible. And Now the public cries about high ticket prices? Too darn bad. The public-- and their theft, from Napster and before, and onward- are solely responsible for it all. If live performance is the last stand for revenue-- so be it. The selfish public and their actions are mostly to blame. They should own it.

Zappa- Portland ME, in 77? 40 seconds in, a glass bottle clips him hard on the shoulder, staggering him. Full-stop, dead quiet. Frank says, “We’re not playing another note until the asshole that threw that is gone.” There was a moment of confusion, then the guys near the idiot sorta shrugged, and lifted him up above their heads, and bottle-chucker was involuntarily crowd-surfed forward into the waiting arms of a couple beefy security guys. The whole thing took maybe a minute, then they kicked it back in and played a great show.

I’m 58, I’ve been going to concerts since the 1970’s. I recently saw Jerry Cantrell’s show and it was amazing. But as of yesterday the same venue in Portland Oregon was shut down due to a bomb threat. The world is not a fun place anymore. People are rude. Touring musicians operating costs have gotten unmanageable and ticket prices are stupid. I remember paying 7.25 to see Def Leppard but that was 43 years ago. Fast forward to today. I find few newer artists that can work an audience like the classics did. I still go to the occasional show but it’s more of a stressful experience when you are dealing with the people and the world of today. It’s dangerous in my recent experience. Thanks for this and thanks again for the hospitality you gave my upon my visit in June. Had a great time and I loved the acoustic room! (Edit: Love my Casino guitars ball cap!)

I was at the infamous Rolling Stones concert @ The L.A. Coliseum in 1981. Our seats were on the first row of the second level, stage right and we had great view down onto the stage and could see a bit of backstage. We watched in amazment while some clown a few 'rows' back from the front of the stage started throwing stuff @ Prince and his band. Prince's guitarist was hit first, and I can't remember what was thrown. The band said screw this! and headed for the steps down to the backstage area. Jagger and Bill Graham met them at the bottom of the steps and talked the band into going back on. Things were weird and then Prince got hit with, I think, a grapefruit? (Who brings a graperuit to concerts?) That was it and they marched off stage. Graham came onstage, grabbed a mic and started ranting at the moron. After Bill offered this a** his money back if he didn't like what he was seeing this idiot actually FOUGHT HIS WAY to the edge of the stage where Bill and some roadies (?) dragged him onto the stage and escorted him , not gently, to the backstage stairs. Our seats were perfect to watch Bill Graham push the guy down the stairs , where he didn't land at all well. Out of control, even then? True story.

Credit to Hetfield for making the point to the crowd that we’re here to have a good time, not smash each other’s faces in, or words to that effect. I don't even look at who's coming to town anymore ( nevermind looking into tix ) Prices are ridiculous , public are D-Bags and "performer's" are pretending to perform ( Yes technology , a friend ??? to true musicians everywhere lol )... Why pay ( now hundreds and hundreds of $$$ ) for that BS... Never thought I'd hear myself say this but when it comes to live music events , I'll buy a digital copy for like 20$ and watch it from the comfort and convince of my couch , while drinking a cold beer and waiting for the pizza guy.... He bend backwards and dangled them over the crowd at one point. Dude reaches up and grabs and pulls... Mike turns steps forward and slams the live Mic down on his head! It echos through the venue. Splits him open and knocks him out. The crowd was so tight at the stage that he stayed standing...lol. Roadies come haul him onstage and sat him down just off stage and got him a beer. Mike sat him on a chair in the middle of the stage and sang him a ballad later in the set.

My daughter and I went to a New Found Glory Concert (NFG) in 2021 at a music venue and of course a mosh pit ensued. A really nice guy protected us from the crowd which wad cool. Then 2 guys started to fight in the pit, not cool. NFG stopped the concert and told them to cool down and stop. They were really good about it and made sure everyone was safe before resuming the concert. We went to see them again at an outdoor concert a couple weeks ago and they were really awesome. No mosh pit and everyone had a great time.

Billie Joe's rant wasn't just for being shoved off the stage, they wanted to cut Green Days set down to 5-10 mins because *Usher* set went an extra 15-30 mins long, and was not stopped at any point. So Green Day was solely being given the sheet end of a stick and no one else because of bad event management. BJ has apologized and said the outburst was alcohol driven, doesn't change the fact he was 100% in the right to be upset.

Concerts are not out of control. Ive seen a ton of live music the past several years in from acoustic to blues to country to rock to metal at clubs, theaters, arenas, stadiums, festivals, cruises, etc. - luckily, I have seen no major incidents from fans or artists - out of control perception is the amplification of social media on those percentage wise relatively rare instances: artists have always had bad nights they lashed out and jerks in the crowd have always gone too far; neither used to be captured by the internet and passed by without note unless it happened to be filmed, or was big enought to make the papers or resulted in actual large scale violence. - ticket prices: yes the live nation/ticketmaster near monopoly stifle competition and subvert the free market and bots scoop up entirely too many tickets. But the fact is there are more people who want to see artist X than there are seats and performances, so price weeds out how much you really want to see them. Artists/promoters/venues/ticket outlets all need to make a profit, else there's no live music to see. We all have a price point where we walk away which differs depending on the artist. - Cell phones: artists have no leg to stand on complaining about cell phones. If they really feel that strongly, go the Jack White route and have cell phones checked at the door as part of the terms and conditions. - Cell phone ettiquette: I personnally like to capture a few songs or moments here and there. I keep it at shoulder/face level; it sucks that most people dont. If someone in front is unreasonably obstructive, ask them to lower it. Or make your way eleswhere idlf standing.

I disagree. The power I have is the power of my wallet. I went to a Metallica show about 19 years ago where someone threw something (I think it may have been a lighter) at James and hit him in the face. He continued playing for about 15 seconds and then stopped. Definitely the most pissed off I'd seen him at any of the five Metallica shows I've been to. He talked with the rest of the band for few minutes and they picked up the song a little before where they stopped it. The vibe was completely different after that, and it affected the rest of the set. It was honestly the first time I'd seen a performer hit with something dangerous at a big venue show. I've definitely seen more shit thrown a big venue shows post pandemic. I don't know if people have just lost their decency, or if these idiots feel like the amount they've paid to get in the door entitles them to be part of the show. Whatever it is, I don't like it. I'm there to see musicians do their thing.

So you should watch the full story with MIranda lambert as it was not an issue of them taking selfies it was an issue that several of them were standing up and blocking others from seeing the show to take big group selffies. At first I did not agree with her saying something about that but once you see the full story and the video of what the people were actually doing I agree with her 100% for saying something, the problem is people cut out the facts and you only see a short clip of the situation to push a certain narrative which was what happened with that situation.

There is a story that some idiot had climbed on stage and plugged in their cell phone charger to an outlet on a prop wall. Then complained that the power wasn't on and asked theater people to go fix the problem (hint: prop outlets are not wired - they're only props :). I had someone unplug my FOH console to charge their phone. I just see this as an extension to the general direction of society however that's still not an excuse.

I can see some things being okay. If an artist sees a fan with a phone and leans in for a selfie with the kid that's one thing. If the kid gets on stage and jumps right next to the singer for a selfie that's another. And never throw things at the artist onstage ever. It's all about respect. Respect the artist. Yes you paid a gazillion dollars to see them, but you don't act like you own the place or the show and if you doing rude selfies throws them off so be it. If it doesn't, great. But I think a line is getting blurred between what is okay and what is outrageous behavior. And it is happening everywhere, not just at concerts, but with with wild animals in Yellowstone national park, etc.. jeeza! I understand crazy behavior gets likes on tik tok and instagram but when people act like complete rude morons for internet laughs and thumbs up.. "I can't believe you did that dude!" "You go girl!" It gets a bit much. Some people just need to put the phone away and go back to their seats, listen to the music, and enjoy the show. I'm not cool with generation Z treating live music like background music to their influencer selfie sessions. People are saying Coachella was a dud this year because none of the Gen Z influencers went to see any of the actual live acts on stage! Apparently many of the top internet influence celebs all just went for the fashion tent events, swag givaways, VIP lounges, etc. and were too tired to go see any music, yet they got free all expenses trips to be there. There was a clip of an up and coming R&B singer trying to hype half an audience and they acted like they were asleep! What?!? Is Coachella even about the music and arts anymore? It's a MUSIC AND ARTS festival!

I saw Barry Manilow in concert last week. No issues at all. The wheelchair section was a little overcrowded but that's a fire marshal issue.

I like to record 1 or 2 songs just for me, I do watch them back later on. But I at least lower the brightness of my phone when filming. (sorry lol)

It is Rock n Roll, least it was. Was 5ft away from Siouxsie Sioux and the Banshees (not a big fan) back in 82'ish in NZ when another skinhead shook up a full beer can and sprayed it all over her. Quick as lightening she lassoed the Mic right into the head of the guy next to me who fell like a tiny Ox. Wrong guy, totally innocent, but man it was funny.

throwing heavy objects into an unsuspecting crowd... not cool, beating the F out of some jerk that crawls on stage and messes with band members, totally acceptable, First concert I ever went to, it was outdoor and free (pain in the grass Seattle Center... NEVERMORE!) someone ordered a pizza... well that pizza made a few rounds through the crowd and eventually made it to the stage, guitar player took a big dirty bite, and tossed it back to the crowd... awesome lol.

I'm old, I miss the days when you went to shows to hear good music and maybe dance. Not to see someone on stage or in the audience act like a moron. Good music good vibes, that's what it was about. Don't see it that much anymore.

People are constantly raising the bar. If there's a good thing going on, there'll be someone to come along and ruin it for everyone. It wasn't like this in the 60's and 70's. Case in point, Woodstock '69 vs Woodstock '94. What would happen if concerts were banned altogether, because of a few A-Holes ruining it for everyone ???

I was lucky enough to see Mazzy Star. But of course Hope Sandoval didn't finish the show. She was getting annoyed with the audience apparently and threw her hands up and walked off stage. The rest of the band continued to play for whay i think was the rest of the show. But to her credit she did ask the crowd to "not do that" whatever it was. I mean there were people fighting and a lot of people on their cellphone so i dont know i cant really say i blame her but she is known for walking off stage so get what you can i guess.

I'm going to a nice small show next week and the ticket set me back $16.50. I'm going to buy some merch so the band can grab burgers after the show.

I really wish people would just put down their damn phones and be present during a show. What's the point of being at a LIVE show and watching it through your phone screen? Doesn't affect my view as I'm 6'2" and generally see above everyone, it's just annoying and distracting as an audience member.
