Are dreadlocks appropriate for school? Not for the Head teacher at Fulham Boys School who told 12-year-old Chikerzee to cut his dreadlocks or face suspension. But the boy's family argued that his hair was in-keeping with the Rastafarian faith and they plan to argue the case in court. Chris Rogers reports.

“Education is important but we’ll just waste your time focusing on your hair even though it’s your cultural and religious belief. We’ll just discriminate against you because we can” literally that just sums up their “strict” uniform policy. Thought education came first, but people obviously don’t care about education if they’re literally putting a boy in isolation for wearing dreadlocks. It’s like saying that a Muslim girl can’t wear a hijab if she wishes to wear one. Like honestly schools need to educate themselves on ethnic and cultural differences so they can accept people who come from a different background with a different religion.

The title of this video should be something like, “Rasta community unites to fight discriminatory and ridiculous school policy” or something since of course dredlocs are legitimate.

UK has to adapt to the civilization of each community. The reverse will never happen no matter how hard the politicians will try. Real assimilation is impossible. It happens only superficially for better job opportunities.

The fact that this is even a question and knowing how severely poor the education system is. This should be enough for Black People especially to STOP sending their children to racist institutions...true or definitely agree?

That's messed up. Even if someone has dreads they shouldn't be met with such nonsense. Religious belief or not. This is silly and I wish this young man good luck.

"Like Jesus, his principal, Alun Ebenezer, has to grow up" LMAO! Line from his book called, "I've had a Relevation that I'm going to hell for this!" or something like that LOL. The bunch of people wrote up whatever could apply to them that's all, so that doesn't make that boy wrong in any way just bec they stopped writing! If kids hit puberty sooner they'll have to ban moustaches.

Has there been any updates to the story? In the United States a lot of many any states have passed the Crown Act to stop this type of discrimination. we are trying to get one passed on the federal level. And is a recent story out of Texas where is school is claiming they did not violate the recently passed Crown Act since they believe it doesn't say anything about hair length the policy is that male students cannot have long hair. From what I understand many of these hairstyles without having some length to your hair.

Saw rye first three words of the title...Are dreadlocks appropriate- yes. Simple. No need to even watch the video. If you are foolish enough to think a person's hairstyle makes them incapable or those around them incapable of going to school, or doing a certain job (within reason), then you are a fool. Nuf said.

Ancient Egyptian Nubians had dreads and so did many Sub Saharan groups that had no possible contact with India I’m not saying your wrong but I am saying that dreadlocks have existed with people that had the ability or need for them i mean they seem to fit all types of hair but,I have yet to see any Indians with dreads but if they exist then ,I guess that dreads are a universal hair style
