Hello, here is a simple guide to follow to minimize the danger of fire from your lithium ion batteries. Number one safety rule is only use batteries from the big manufacturers like LG, Sanyo, Samsung and Panasonic.
Buy your PEV from a major manufacturer and avoid the ultra cheap imports!
Do not run unbranded low cost batteries that you found cheap online!
Lithium Ion batteries are inherently dangerous due to the amount of energy they hold and their chemical make up. Please use them responsibly and follow any safety recommendations that came with the battery!

I just had this idea yesterday for winter storage. The welding mat and cushion is a great idea. I was going to leave mine air tight, to limit any additional air, thinking it would help deter a fire from accelerating should it malfunction. Has anyone else made a video about this? Again you have some of the most well researched and informative videos,Thank you.

Hey, thank you very much! I personally haven't seen anyone else use an ammo can for an isolation box but I'm sure I'm not the first. I did see some research awhile back that said that Li ion fires were not affected by a low oxygen environment due to the fact they created their own O2 when ignited. So my thinking was to put a small vent hole in the can (this vent might need to be bigger) to allow a rapidly expanding gas to escape and to avoid a rupture of the can. If anyone has a better idea or an idea for a better venting system please leave a comment! Cheers

May as well make it a large vent hole, on the bottom. A small vent hole on the sides or top = a jet flamethrower during battery fire.

Maybe an e bike dealer or a mechanic, or battery rebuilder will see this and have the resources to test different storage options concerning a fire. I'm just trying to be as safe as I can, considering the battery will be stored in the house during Iowa winter. It can get well below zero F here for a couple of weeks. A battery fire is a very serious situation. I have an old washing machine and a dryer in the basement, I could put the ammo can inside one of those for an extra buffer. Maybe Elon would have a solution.

Yeah I think the vent definitely needs to be bigger. I'm thinking a large vent on the bottom would get that box airborne in a hurry! I do like your thinking though, maybe if I bolted the box to the concrete floor with a spacer underneath so it couldn't take off! Cheers

@@lifebehindbarz60 I was taking this as a serious matter, as it more than likely would burn your house down should it catch fire. I have a small wood burning camp stove on my patio that would contain a very hot fire, but we are dealing with unknown temps and variables. I just had an idea, Project Farm does all sorts of experiments, he has done one of my suggestions before. This is a little out of his wheelhouse, but he might be interested, I will explain the "project" and maybe he'll be interested. I think it would be a win/win for the e bike community and Project Farms channel.

Another informative video ! I agree with you about the fire risks on e-bike batteries are low ,but always best to be safe than sorry :) I love the idea of using an Ammo Can to store a battery ! Out of interest where did you obtain those Ammo Cans ?

Hi Neil, thanks for watching! I bought these cans off of Ebay for around $28 each. You can get them cheaper if you don't mind a few cosmetic issues (I guess if you wanted to paint them it wouldn't matter). Cheers

Voila !!

Hello, I know it is a tough decision, the E-56 is a nice bike with the carbon frame and the Frey Fat has the rockshox rear and a very solid reputation. They all use the M620 motor so I guess it really just comes down to personal preference. It's difficult to pick when you can't ride the bike first. I really like everything about the Nitro but wish it had come with an air fork as standard equipment. I hope you like the new Nitro, the handling and power really is very nice. I'll be doing a review and comparison on the Nitro, it should be up about the time you receive the new bike. Let me know what you think of it after a few rides, what kind of riding will you be doing with it? Cheers

Lithium polymer and similar create oxygen when they combust that’s why the car and similar fires are nearly impossible to put out, total immersion in water works not because it puts the flames out but because the battery shorts out and no charge equals no fire so making a box airtight or not is a moot point
