I wouldn’t presume to tell others to take more or less risks. Unless we were part of a team or partnership involved in the same activity. A KZbinr and their audience is as I view it, a rather tenuous relationship. We’re not part of your family, not the best or worst of friends, we’re not even your next door neighbour who you’ve never met, (Ok, we might be that last one.) We are the people out in the darkness, applauding you or hissing, (I’m not hissing.) We wait for a performance and expect a certain related content. But in reality, we’re always waiting for the unexpected, as much as the expected. The KZbinr performs one of many acts, their audience view and or listen. Interaction is expected on both sides. Some may be seen as good, some bad or even indifferent. But there’s normally reaction. It’s up to the individual KZbinr, to control content and also control how much they let themselves be influenced by said reaction to each act. It’s up to you to decide, if you what to be the high-wire performer or the ‘Ring Master’, (I know the clowns run the circus) or the juggler or the fire eater or a mixture of those. What I wouldn’t be, is to get bogged down, in what you think others perceive of your channel or individual acts. One person’s risk level may be far different to another’s view of risk. One person may think eating a puffer fish is risky but think nothing of buying a plane, in the hope of cornering a transport market. While someone else may think whittling with a penknife is risky but not give a thought to marrying someone, they met six weeks ago. Your risks are your risks; no one else’s. As their views are not yours. Nor can their circumstance be exactly the same as yours. If we were all the same, did everything the same and all had the same views, KZbin would not exist. Be yourself the best you can, for as long as you can. If you choose to have an EV for whatever reason, then you do. If you choose not to have an EV for whatever reason, then you do not. Things and circumstance change. Just enjoy the fluidity of your present circumstance, while you have the choice. One day you may not have the same degree of choice.

This is your life, your family, your wishes ... Take as long or as short as YOU think is right , do your homework, do your maths , do your videos to help you with decisions and fact finding. And never let anyone push you in the wrong direction. I am sure in time you will have the bike or car or maybe both that fit your needs Precisely! But most of all keep your videos going, and keep them as honest and down to earth as you are doing , as they are genuinely enjoyable to watch and learn from for others . I look forward to your videos more than any others on KZbin. Without sounding like a youth "keep it real" (I'm 42😁) Already waiting for your next episode. ☺️

We're with you all the way, Duncan. Wouldn't ever encourage people to take undue risks either. People are still paying the 'early adopter premium'. That's why government subsidies are still available. So, for us, who need to buy a used car, rather than a new shiny piece of metal and plastic, we're waiting for today's price bubble to burst, and then we'll see what's available at sensible prices. Small family car prices never rise on the used market, under normal circumstances. Today's inflated prices are untenable, and many people, who buy used EV's now, are going to be disappointed later. One of the first signs of the car price bubble bursting is the introduction of more affordable EV's by several manufacturers. The new MG comes to mind, and there are serious rumours that Dacia, Peugeot, and even VW, are becoming interested in the mass market. If we're wrong, then fair enough but we don't have the disposable income to splash out £25,000+ on a new car which might depreciate like crazy within a couple of years, especially when a new fossil-fuelled vehicle with similar capabilities can cost less than half of that price. The numbers simply don't make sense for us right now. It's hard for someone who cares about pollution, but who needs the use of personal transport, to purchase a car of any type, when manufacturers are holding prices artificially high by not being able to, or not wanting to, supply enough EV's to satisfy the rapidly growing demand. We'll likely see a flood of Chinese imports soon, maybe beginning with BYD and MG, and that will wreck those European suppliers who drag their feet for any reason. When that really starts to happen, it will be too late for some long-established car makers to be able to survive. A similar thing happened with motorcycles in the 1960's and 1970's, when British bikes ruled the roost, but Japanese manufacturers imported large numbers of lower-priced and competitive machines. The complacent manufacturers dropped like flies, so that names like BSA, Villiers, Velocette, Ariel, Panther, Norton, Royal Enfield, Cotton, Silk, and others either disappeared in a pile of cogs, were bought out by overseas manufacturers, or became shadows of their former selves. The only real survivors were (after a worker's buyout) Triumph and (just barely) Norton.

Love your videos. The letter was hilarious. I felt like commenting just to add some balance I suppose to the trolls, or semi-trolls (...hobbits?) that may be complaining for whatever reason. I've felt that you've been extremely sensible with your decisions, not jumping into anything without weighing up the pros and cons. I don't think anyone that would need to solve every single problem before doing something would ever get around to doing anything. I'm happily enjoying watching your adventure, moving to a different country, from the comfort of my sofa. Those that feel you should do things more quickly can just go and distract themselves with other KZbin content. You'll get there when you're ready, and we loyal followers will be here :-)

I have three comments on this. :) 1) When I have talked to people about getting an EV, I have encountered two types of people. The first, of which there seems to be the most, are the ones that all of the sudden gets very defensive about why they need an ICE car for that 1% of their driving where it an EV is a bad fit or they have a lot of other random odd reasons, that have no root in reality, why EVs are bad. The second type is very enthusiastic about it and so those are the ones I choose to continue the conversation with. 2) About risk-taking, people have different levels of how much risk they want to take. It seems though for the best quality of life, at least for me. I like to have a solid foundation with stability and safety, and then I can take some risks. Taking a step into uncertainty now that I have the solid foundation behind me. Staying entirely within the solid foundation is boring leaves no room for personal development. 3) I still want a Tesla Model 3 as well, "just" need to have the 20% payment for the financing so I have raised the money I set aside to 9K dkk pr. month. I can do that for some time. talking about money is uncomfortable. cheers.

I spent £22k on an Ioniq yesterday and your videos had a significant influence on that decision - and just to be clear, the decision to make that purchase was 100% mine so there's not a lawsuit coming your way if it doesn't work out. I thought about filming the moment (of driving away) and starting a youtube career explaining/sharing the benefits/disadvantages of being an Uber driver in an Ioniq. 'Thought about' is the result. What you do takes so much time and energy and, while 2.9k people think it is worthwhile, it's still a big chunk of time that I don't have the drive to use (pun intended). You're the bloke in the pub who's worth listening to. You're the guy down the street who'll ask 'What do you think?' and listen to the answer. We only understand what we do in retrospect. When you can own your bad decisions as much as your good decisions then ... aw sugar I don't know how to finish that sentence. Anyway, c'est la vie say the old folks it goes to show you never can tell.

Have always loved your videos. Now I'm an Ioniq owner and found your videos probably too late but have watched through your history. Will be sad when you are no longer doing Ioniq vids but hopefully you can get a test drive and review of the new Ioniq once it is available in Denmark. Have heard it may not charge as fast as the original. I don't think all youtube EV drivers are rich at all. Do hope you get another EV of some description so you can give it the full tests like you did on your Ioniq and your daughter is a great production assistant so hopefully can help you out some more with various tasks as well when you do. :)

My wife and I decided that we should have a new ev to see us threw our last years (my RAV4 was 17 years old) and didn't want to have the worry of major manacle problems, KZbinrs, including your self helped with the decision to get the Ioniq. We are only on aged pensions but had the equity in our house so the risk we took was the reduction of inheritance our son and daughter will get. Best look with the direction you take. As ever, a thought-provoking video. Thanks! I think risk is a personal matter as it's not just a fact-based measure. It's in that difficult area of how you feel combined with the facts of the change e.g. Financial cost of a car lease (fact), seen in the context of your income v. Outgoings (fact) plus how all this makes you feel. Pioneering? Mad? Systematic? Routine? (Feelings) BTW I have a Renault Zoe R110. I bought it to see how an EV would fit my driving and life-style. All good, until today when I found myself in the rear seat for ten minutes, cramped as hell with the head rest poking in my back. It's not a family car, unless your family is two people. Just sayin'. Still learn'in!

I don't know where anyone would get the notion that EV owners are risk takers or even rich? Personally, I bought my PHEV for the main reason that I am looking at future generation's ability to take over on our beautiful planet by giving them a better chance to all least have a future. This car was the only EV of any kind available at the time when I purchased it. I see myself more as an EARLY adopter than someone being a risk taker or RICH. Had an affordable EV been available I would have gladly gotten something that had sufficient range but 85 miles when I live 45 outside of a major center and being retired without a place to plug in simply was not going to cut it. Not everyone can save the planet by purchasing a TESLA. I had ordered a model 3, but as I was following "Ben Sullins from Teslanomics" on KZbin and he was touting a small program he had written that told me when I should get my car realistically judging from my pre-order number. The car was slated to arrive originally when I plugged in the number at some point in August of 2022 I believe. I unfortunately needed a car in 2017, and at the time the pickings for EV's were really slim. So lo and behold I got a Chevrolet Volt PHEV 2018 Premier Model. The incentives were quite good in Ontario at the time as we had a $14,000 bonus from the Provincial Government to buy these cars. So the rich part is not part of any equation I could muster as I am retired on a Canadian government Pension and not from any industry pension. I understand where you are coming from and can offer empathy as to your situation as it is very stressful to try to move and deal with the day to day issues that everyone has. Especially when they do not have so many things to deal with when moving to a new country as you do. God so many decision and the language is a nightmare at time just conveying the simplest of messages can come across as someone sounding rude when there is no such intent. Hang in there Duncan, I remember you saying that you are doing all of this for your family's future and FAMILY is always first. It's who you are and you have overcome things that were tough to handle in the past. You are resourceful and can do this. Have fun while you can enjoy the challenge and beat it down, you can tame that beast.

Just a though Duncan, I follow Bjorn Nyland from Norway. Is it possible to buy a used EV in Norway and bring it to Denmark? I am not sure what the regulations would be but in Norway there are a plethora of EV's for sale. In Norway EV's are pretty much king, and the steering wheel is on the same side of the car as in Denmark I believe. Possibly talking to Bjorn about your concerns about EV's in Denmark may lead you down another path that could have him recommend someone he knows in his midst or some people in Denmark that he may know about, for a potential purchase that will suite you better.

Money! I understand where you are coming from as I am very careful with money and always look at the best value for my money. I really want an EV but can't justify one with my limited use (average 6-8k miles per year) and my company paying most of the fuel costs. I hope that when my current 2006 Focus becomes uneconomical to run I can then justify getting an EV with me able to get a 40kw Zoe here in the UK on subscription with EVezy for £289 per month, why so expensive in Denmark? - I have one rented on Turo for 4 days starting tomorrow to drive 220 miles to Lincoln, wish me luck :)

Riding a bike in the rain is no problem. Just a matter of descent rain clothed. I as a danish daily cycling commuter just check the weather forecast each. Morning. Only thunder makes me take the car. In Aarhus you just take the bus. Bike paths are salted in the winter so no problem. Not many danes have it but i use stutted snow tires on my bike in the winter. If you want the cheapest new ebike in Denmark you should go to Bilka in Tilst or T Hansen. Maybe Biltema have cheap ebikes also. Though if you have the money I would not buy these bikes but a quality ebike. On Bilbasen.dk there is right now an Ioniq for 170.000 kr. Normally you can hackle a car 10-30.000 kroners so maybe you can get it for 150.000 kroners.

Do you see your decisions as risks, or are you just living your life the way you want to live it? That's an important question to ask yourself and the answer will be different for everyone. Personally, I wouldn't jump out of a plane, or walk the length of the country; that's just not who I am. Would I move to another country in the hope of making a better life for myself? Possibly is the best answer I can give, but only if I felt that the reward for doing so was almost a certainty - so not really a risk at all in my eyes. As for what I expect from KZbinr's? KZbin is legal voyeurism. People of all walks of life make videos and then share them to the world. What content that video has is entirely down to the person making those videos as far as I'm concerned. And I like your videos. They are honest and I find them interesting. Other people may not but we're all different and we use this site for different things. Just live your life the way you want to and don't feel pressured into anything you're not comfortable with.

I've never rented any vehicle, I buy what I can afford, so I'll never be able to make a KZbin video about new electric vehicles. I think a LOT of people spend a percentage of their income over 36 months so they can 'have' something new even though they never own it, the pay to borrow it over a few years. I'm watching the used market, I expect older Teslas to fall in price quite dramatically as the Model 3 becomes the default value - how many people will really pay a premium to have an older S85 over a new Model 3, really? The new MG will also depress the value of every used sub-40kWh battery car - again, why pay more for an older one? To me the risk is borrowing and not owning.

With that history, no-one can accuse you of lack of chutzpah. When I lived in Germany there were few Airmen on the base that never ventured outside the station gates. Absolutely their loss. They say, nothing ventured nothing gained, but then you need to balance that with, marry in haste, repent at leisure! You have to stick within you're own comfort range. Never mind what others are saying. They're usually the ones that are peering round the corner laughing at you when you fall on your butt. As for the Zoe, I still think that rental is too high. Tempering the fact that your family will, hopefully, soon join you, I think the EBike is better value. However, winter will soon be upon us. If you wait until into the new year there will be more choice. Have you noticed that the right thing always comes along at the wrong moment. Boy this decision making game is a minefield. As for the weather. My wife and I think we are having a Cyprus (Mediterranean) climate. Hot weather followed by very extreme short deluges followed by more hot weather. More heat means more evaporation, means more heavier rain.
