I think reducing the pigment in your eyes is ridiculous. I have OCA1a albinism - I have no pigment in any part of my eye. My eyes are violet and photophobia or light sensitivity is all consuming my eyes can’t open outside even on a dull day I have to wear tinted contact lenses and sunglasses before I am vaguely comfy outside. Pigment and melanin is there for a reason, don’t mess with it!!

I wanted green eyes like my family, my mom, aunt, grandma an sister all got the green eye mutation an I got medium brown eyes. I always thought they were plain and boring until I started getting older. The Mexican indigenous blood in my veins, the gold in my jewelry, the olive undertones in my skin, the sun on a spring day, these things made me appreciate my eyes. If you’re a young person reading this, your brown eyes are just as beautiful too. There are people who will appreciate them, but the first has to be you 🤎

Photoablative iridoplasty is not new technology. We have been doing it for years with argon to treat angle related glaucoma. The major concerns around cosmetic photoablative iridoplasty using ND: Yag are 2 fold: 1. The effects of severe laser induced uveitis with pigment dispersion resulting in hypotony from chronicity. 2. Glaucoma in all its nuances The studies you may have referenced are on the effect of ND: Yag on iris stroma and the rate of absorption by the the epithelium are all sound theoretically. What we have not defined clearly is the exclusion criteria and the workup behind it. All studies suggest that it should be a safe and revolutionary procedure but the rules have not yet been clearly defined for a safe, predictable cosmetic procedure with the emphasis on cosmetic and the litigation attached to this word. I would hate to be on the receiving end of a rare scenario of an undiagnosed autoimmune patient that happened to be in the hunt for a new look...

The have shown the procedure gradually, and the doctor said that he is letting a very small circle of melanin around the pupil, that he will not touch it with the laser, to not affect the vision, and it was seen in the eyes of the girl to, but from very close. Than is true? This will help that will not be any complications at all in the future? Because I really wanted to do it. The surgery was 4k euros, that is not such a big price.

I saw one of these companies online a few years ago. I don't remember the name but I do remember it was based in Mexico. I sent them an email requesting more information just out of curiosity and they said pretty much the same thing you said here, that it was just a 'low powered laser' that broke down the melanin, it may take more than one session depending on your starting shade and desired shade and mentioned that additional treatments may be required in the future. I was never serious about changing my eye color, but then seeing that it wasn't permanent really turned me off it. Even if the first session is fine, you could end up with problems after a second or third.

I mean... blue eyes evolved in cold climates where there isn't much sun. It's just that the white race has spread its seed far and wide... so now white people are outside of the types of environments they evolved in. Plus globalism of course. Your eyes are perfectly adapted to the environment your ancestors evolved in. Although honestly, blue eyes probably became common among white people due to sexual selection, as opposed to some practical advantage that it confers. Blue eyes are undoubtedly beautiful. FYI to anyone curious, I've had this procedure done. And I'm laughing my ass off every time a doctor threatens with these "huge chunks of melanin that will clog the drainage of the eye". Buddy, I'd love to see some huge chunks of melanin actually go anywhere. Because the process is so incredibly slow and the difference is so tiny you won't see the difference with your own eyes for years! Also, I don't know whether it's true, I've not tested it with a microscope myself, but people doing this procedure claim the melanin isn't just dislodged and left to float. It's mildly damaged so that your immune system goes in and eats it. No clogging anywhere. Inflamation and light sensitivity do rock up right after the sessions, but the doctor gives you pills for it. I've been dealing with this for 3 years now. Never did I feel my vision remotely threatened, but I do feel bummed out for spending nearly 6K just to have my brown eyes just a tad-bit ashier.

As I ran across this online the first thought was poag, as I read on I came across a Dr in NY ,Dr. Kevin Niksarli and from what I read it seems like they actually put a type of ink into the “superficial “ part of the cornea their words not mine. I would like an in depth answer of what is the superficial part of the cornea for as we are aware that all parts of the cornea have their each individual purpose. If the pigment is removed not only are you taking the chance of pigment induced poag. But also the muscle fiber of the iris are sticky so I don’t see how that can be done and if you add pigment you lose space somewhere in the eye, wherever it may be. Your video was made I see five months ago but I was like how in the world is this done in NYC 😲 with FDA approval?

It's like why can't people just accept what they were born with. How is one able to look at their childhood photographs, looking at the baby them flaunting their natural features, after they get all these permanent dangerous procedures done on them and not burst out crying? And people are allowed to do what they want with their bodies but everyone just wants Blue eyes and blonde hair and light skin. It's so tiring. People who have them naturally are fine but why do you gotta change yourselves bro. The laser although impressive, has yet to "Wow Me" with the results of a dramatic color change that more appealing then the beautiful brown color they just zapped away. I do see that the laser technicians are getting more creative with the laser and creating a limbal ring around the irise for more definition and enlargement of the eye and also a star blast of the original eye color around the pupil to create contrast, depth/dimension and a blending effect as the pupil retracts. What makes me sad is just that you kind of know intuitively that it’s not blue eyed people who want brown eyes, it’s the opposite. Status always controls what we perceive as beautiful: there are so many historic examples of that. The fact that people will literally risk hurting their completely healthy bodies by removing pigment from their freaking eyes, just to look like the kind of person who has status, because that’s what this is really about. Blue eyes certainly are not inherently more beautiful than brown eyes, but they do symbolize status. Not blue eyes alone, but blue eyes in combination with pale skin, a healthy smile and expensive clothes will do the trick. I have read about dark skinned people trying to bleach their skin and ending up with third degree burns, and this is the same category in my mind. I understand why people do it, I just think it’s so sad that they feel the need to.

They prefer jeans with straight legs to jeans with bell-bottoms legs. They prefer MrBeast to youtube channels about ancient Greek philosophers. Etc. Yes, there are some people who love ancient Greek philosophers, and Mireille Mathieu, and archery, etc. And ancient Greek philosophy is fascinating, and Mireille Mathieu was an amazing singer, and archery is a very impressive sport, etc. But still, the vast majority of people have other preferences. I hate that we’ve pretty much unanimously agreed the light colored eyes are most beautiful, and white people are pretty much the only people with a large number of these colored eyes. Every romance novel is about staring into “his piercing blue eyes” or “her eyes of hazel green.” They’re meant to make someone “beautiful inside out” and “truly unique” rather than just yet another inherited trait from their privileged parents, and every other race or brown eyed person is just bland and flavourless. Or, if someone’s being nice, “approachable”. And then, when eye color changing surgery comes out, they all act so surprised when people risk being blind to do it. “I think eye lightening is ridiculous” yeah, and I bet you’ve gotten at least 1 compliment about your eyes in your life. The ugliest blue eyed dude gets laid. When your eyes are brown you feel invisible and left out.

Sure, in general, light colored eyes are considered more beautiful than dark eyes, but everything else you said about being only "approachable" if you have brown eyes or "the ugliest blue eyed dude gets laid while a brown eyed person is invisible" is really reaching. Quite frankly, an ugly blue eyes dude has less of a chance of getting laid than an attractive brown eyed dude. Honest question. Who do you think has a better chance at getting laid, people with brown eyes like Ryan Reynolds, Kit Harington (Jon Snow from GOT), Jamie Dornan (from 50 Shades), Johnny Depp, Dave Franco, or a dude with blue eyes but chubby cheeks, pimples, and messed up teeth? Or let's look at females with brown eyes. Selena Gomez, Jessica Alba, J Lo, Emma Watson, Anne Hathaway, Salma Hayek, Keira Knightley, Penelope Cruz, Hailee Steinfeld. Do you truly believe the people I mentioned above are just "approachable" or "invisible"?

Hi Dr. Rupa. Thanks for the eye-opening video, haha. So, since light-colored eyes reflect low pigmentation, is this characteristic related to the skin tone also? For example, this black girl has a skin darker than mine, and most black people like me have dark brown eyes, but she has ice blue eyes instead. What does this mean?

hi so, i know that there are people who put bright blue implants in their eyes. i read about this operation five years ago, and as far as i know, it involves certain risks. i don't remember the name of the company, but if i find it, i'll add it here. also, some people with black skin tone are born with bright blue or green eyes, but this is really rare

I love dark brown eyes, I’d just wear contacts if I wanted to change them

I think in the future with crisper and the way the mayo clinic did it on already existing people they will probably be able to just genetically modify people to have whatever eye color they want and whatever gender they want. The plastic surgery industry will probably invest in that technology to incorporate it into their business catering model.

I've changed my eyecolor in pictures to see what it would look like if I had light colored eyes and I don’t think it looks good at all. So, thankfully I don't even try contacts.

i am not interested in doing this, but i saw it on tiktok so i wanted to do some “research” in how safe it actually is… all the sites that provide this procedure say it’s 100% safe (obviously) but i really feel that they are just saying this because they wanna keep their costumers (which i understand) But i wanna know (if you know) do they make you sign anything if you were to do such a procedure, as in we are not responsible if you go blind or anything serious happens. Like do they know the harm that could cause this or are they just like okey let’s do it and get that bag. Also could this make you go blind? because i feel like the laser must me some sort of trauma on the eyes. Loved this video and it answered so many questions i had !💗

You sign wavers for ANY type of surgery from appendectomy to heart transplant that there is a risk of death. I cna't see them not having patients sign a wavier stating that you are aware there is a risk, however minimal, of vision loss or whatever accompanying the procedure.
