Filipina Pea, the Bible tells the woman to submit, not to be submissive. It looks similar, but there's a lot of difference! Because a woman can choose to submit even if she's not submissive by nature. Also, there's a lot of misconception about submitting. It's not just the woman who "has to" submit. It's the man, who has to prove her woman that he loves her so much, that he wants her best so much, that the woman accepts to submit to him so that he can give her the best he can.

When most people hear the word “submit,” they think of giving up control or power. This is not what submission in a marriage is about. When you submit to your husband, you are giving him authority and respect. You are saying that you trust him and believe in him. You are also communicating that you value his opinion and want to work together as a team. Submission does not mean weakness; it means strength!

I perfectly agree. In a healthy relationship a couple always take their share of responsibility and stand for what they believe is beneficial for both. A submissive woman would give up everything to her husband and approve any decision, including the most revolting ones like gambling her salary in the casino. On my part, I can say the Filipinas I know are not resigned to their fate and passive, they're fighters. Because they're very shy doesn't mean they're submissive, I believe it's important to not confuse it with "accomodating".

After 36 years of being together, the subject of submissiveness has never come up. Is my wife submissive? Yes. Is she agreeable? Yes. Did I demand that she be that way? No. My wife was introduced to me a meek and quiet person. She was unsure of herself and lacked confidence even though she's very intelligent and can speak 5+ languages. Once she understood her value she quickly overcame the mental obstacles she brought into our relationship. Did I mention she's not American?

This is only the second time i’ve chosen to leave a comment but I’m a long time watcher of your channel , i’m going to speak from my point of view that I think a lot of men and women should consider , I am a retired counselor who worked in law-enforcement and spoke with many age groups, backgrounds, and races of people about there bad relationship and the problems that go along with and what it can cause ! Ok let’s start ! I live in the U.S , and for the modern woman submission is a dirty word , being that there hyper masculine and want to control their surroundings seem to be their goal in life but still have the benefit of what the man brings to a relationship , both supportive in monetary and security yet still being in control . To the masculine man that is counterproductive of what society or tradition says our relationship should be , but if a man makes this statement he is then shamed or called sexist or misogynistic ! I’m well aware you are familiar with this behavior , ( FYI I’m a black man ) BUT When we as western men look other places for a wife we are accused of only wanting someone to be submissive ! So to bring some clarity , The men that I talk to, the men that I associate with, those of us who are looking to your country and your culture for a wife and a mate we are not looking for submission ! We are looking for the one thing we can’t find here so let’s exchange the word submissive to compromissive ( to compromise ) From my opinion a real man is going to lead from love and respect ! Now speaking from the counseling in me there’s only one true thing to submit to and the greater entity is neither the man or the woman it is the relationship ! Two half’s making a whole ! Good topic Pea. The term "Submissive" can have so many different meanings. Not all of them are bad. I think the term gets a bad rap because people automatically assume it means sexually submissive. When usually it actually refers to letting someone else lead in the relationship. That is not a bad thing as it is often destructive to have more than one try to lead.

As long as you set your boundaries, you are not submissive in the negative sense of the term.

The Book of Genesis… How long ago do we think it was written and what language do we think it was written in ? I was raised by the King James Version. When do we think that was translated ? Languages evolve over time. English is spoken in several countries as a primary or secondary language and there are examples of words being used differently in each of those countries. My point is that the word submissive is like a poison pill to western women. When there is a crisis, I believe, historically speaking Men would lead. The wife would follow the lead of her husband. During a crisis there is little to no time for debate, or an argument. For example… the home is being attacked… husband says get the kids and go to the cellar… husband prepares to defend the home. In a non-crisis situation there is more time to discuss logical options. But there should still be a clear leader that has the power of veto.

Hot topic, Pea! I find it sad that the word "submissive" has become, to many, a bad word. Submission means to support. I support my boss at work. I don't fight him or her on every turn. Ultimately, it's their decision and I go with it whether I agree or not. I am also a boss at work. My worst employees have been those that fight me at every turn. Submission allows for a chain of command but a good boss allows for the voice of the employee to be heard and seriously considered in the end. In most relationships, one person ends up being the leader anyway, sometimes the man and sometimes the woman. That's just how it goes. It's human nature.

First people need to realize a marriage/relationship is a type of organization...and in all organizations there needs to be a leader, someone who makes the final decision. That doesn't mean it should ALWAYS be the husband. I had a female cousin who believed the husband should be the final decision maker but sometimes she would take the lead and her husband would agree because she had more information and experience in certain areas. My mother was a wonderful woman but she was not quiet and submissive. But she was wise enough to know that in some areas my father should make the final decisions.

I’ve been married with my French husband for almost 5 years and when I told him about being submissive Filipina he laughed, he said it’s far from reality. We argued sometimes but as much as possible we discussed many things in making big decisions. As someone that dated a filipina before. They arent submissive overal. They want to take charge of the household decisions and they want to make their husband happy, also in the bedroom, aslong as he provides. Dating a filipina as a european guy feels like dating a girl that feels either a obligation or a duty to the world. Where l come from, a married couple are equal partners who decide important things together and respect each others opinions. An agreeable partner is preferable to a submissive one, because not only is a dissenting voice needed when you are in the wrong, but doing things that give you personal joy is necessary for your emotional wellbeing. Another really interesting and diverse bunch of opinions Pea. If I were a Filipina, I would run a mile from the first man you interviewed. I do believe there needs to be balance, as many of the group suggested. A power struggle in a relationship will only make two people unhappy. Looking back at how I believe my parents succeeded, I think that my mother allowed my father to FEEL that he was the boss, while guiding many of the important decisions.

You're right, "submission" is a loaded term. My Albanian girlfriend insists on doing the cooking, cleaning and all the housework band takes care of me but in NO WAY would I ever consider her submissive. Neither would she. We're partners.

Hi Pea! I am a long time viewer and happily married to an amazing Filipina from Cebu. I think the concept or idea of Filipinas being "Submissive" is fairly complex yet simple at the same time. To be clear, in general I do not find Filipinas to be submissive in the general sense. They are in fact very proud strong willed and at times stubborn. However, if you have their love and their trust they will always try to find a way to make you happy, and will do it at their own expense. My wife and I feel we are both submissive to one another. I submit to her and she submits to me. If she wants me to do or not do something, I do as she asks and she does the same for me. It is give and take, with the common goal of wanting to make each other happy. It never is a competition or something that requires you to "Keep Score" so while we do "Submit" to one another, we do it willingly because we know our partner does as well. I hope that all makes sense 🙂 Anyway, thank you again for all you do!

They are certainly not submissive in my experience. They are strong and resilient, sometimes stubborn yes, but overall they want to be an equal partner in creating a loving and effective team with you. For the most part they are truly lovely and loving. Of course you have to pick the right one.

I asked my mom and my sister about being submissive , for them, submissive is being faithful and loyal to your spouse or partner. Filipinas are cooperative but always a follower, i dont think so. We have opinion too.

This is a great topic. Growing up my parents both work very hard. However, my Dad did 90% of the cooking and all of the yard work etc.. My Mom did a lot of the other stuff. I would say it was around 70/30. My Dad doing more, but that comes from him being a busy bee. ha When it came to finances it was always a discussion between both. There will always be disagreements. However, if you can make things a two way street it will hopefully workout better for everyone. Both parents were disciplinary, but my Mom wasn't strong enough so my Dad had to do most even though he didn't want to. I guess at the end of the day just respect and trust each other. That could take some time, but once you have that it will work out. That's my 2 cents. Everyone have a great day!

This is my case for the Christian model that we’ve been using for 30 years. My experience with Filipinas are that they are as submissive as anyone (not submissive). In my wife’s case, it’s true that she is traditional, family oriented and awesome but not naturally submissive. She is a Christian, so from this point of view, there’s a form of submission but it’s not the same form that a non Christian would think of. If you marry a Filipina, you’ll surely have the kind of marriage that the type you create according to your orientation in true, selfless love. If you show her that model, it will be yours. If you base your relationship on something else, then one of two results will likely occur. 1. You’ll break up 2. One of you will need to be subservient to the other person’s selfish desires and that subservient person will be the guy in most cases. On the surface both the Christian and non Christian marriage involve servitude and obedience to keep a marriage. There’s no escaping it. There is a difference in the nature of the submission of the Christian and non Christian models, also. The Christian model is voluntary and the non Christian model is involuntary, involves obedience to God’s Will (selfless love) vs obedience to the will of person who spouse who values the relationship least, creative power vs coercive power, fear of God vs fear of one’s spouse, academic discussions on disagreements vs might is right, trust vs resentment…. It’s important to understand how Christian disagreements are supposed to work. It’s teamwork. There’s only obedience to God and the truth. When the husband proposes something he needs to show that the decision is coming from the right place and serves the wife and not just anything he wants to do. The wife needs to use her discernment and question a doubtful decision. However, if it is right, she needs to fall in line if he’s representing the truth and not dodge it. Right needs and reasons need to be established and both need to participate. As a man, he does have responsibility as to show leadership and also provide. The wife needs to help him do that. It’s not that the Christian marriage is invincible but that it provides an opportunity for happiness that the coercive model could never have.

Thanks for clearing this up Pea. Many are completely confused about the word and it's meaning. A lot of this is due to social programming. And it goes " So as we buy into trends many sheepal shall follow" without realizing why. (Advertisements) are out there for a reason 100% to sale us on something the machine wants. I'll probably edit this because I just started seeing this but a good example of that is this morning, 8:06 a.m. eastern standard Time US, my Filipino fiance showed me some pictures of a house. I want us to be in this 50/50 because I think I have to make the decisions and I want us to decide together. Now that I finish looking at the video, one of the things that I do is not taking the lead on anyting. I think it's because if something goes wrong I won't be blamed for it. I see now that most Filipinos want you to take the lead.

There’s nothing wrong about your approach on how you take the lead. You want your partners voice and that’s a good thing. But it’s only your partner who can show you that she acknowledges your position as the head of the family, which she can do while voicing her opinion. But at the same time, the head of the family (you) takes responsibility and accountability if bad decisions were made. And when you take that without any blame game, you’re a good leader. And if you have a good partner, she would still keep on supporting you even if some important decisions were made poorly 👍🏼

Great show P! My wife and I have been married for 41 years! When we have a disagreement, it is resolved very easily. As soon as she “submits” in writing that, I am always right I agreed to do whatever she wants to do as long as she pays for it, if she really wants to she’ll pay for it and we will do it! But if she really doesn’t want to do it, then I will have it my way. Which is usually the cheap way works out great and it’s kind of nice always being right lol.😂 The telling part is that I am retired because I have enough money to, and she is still working because she does not.

I’m an American man and I’m married to a Filipina. My wife is no pushover and I really would never want her to be. I wanted a traditional wife not necessarily a submissive wife. I have no problem including her thoughts on any decision and in fact I welcome those thoughts. I’m not perfect so yes I can and some times are wrong so if I trust my wife then I will take her thoughts very seriously before we make a decision. I wanted a partner and a teammate in life and that’s what American women have lost. They are taught to be independent and not need a partner so they don’t know how to work things out once they get into a relationship. American men are not marrying Filipinas because they want slaves that submit to they every order. We simply want a woman who loves us, respects us, and appreciates us. Western society has taught everyone to hate men and now they are surprised we are leaving.

I came to the Philippines, not to find a woman but to find a beautiful beach property to buy and live on. Now the only choice as far as dating goes would be a Filipina. I found a wonderful widow with two teenage children, and we have a great relationship with a lot of love and respect going both ways. I don’t believe that our relationship is submissive on either one of our parts but rather a relationship built on give-and-take and understanding each other’s cultural differences. And since I am living here in the Philippines I am the one that has to learn the culture. My New Year’s resolution the year before was “patience”, this last years resolution was “more patience”

I just think that if you are a man that brings a lot to the table and if it is something that she is interested in, she will go with it. But if she does not like it, and you are not stable enough to take the wheel, she will give you the deal lol the Filipino women that I have dealt with will never stand for disrespect. Not that I had to experience it firsthand, but I have seen them in action. Great content Pea . It always amazes me how men are quick to bring up wives are to be submissive ( as far as Christian religion goes ) . As a husband we need to read ahead of that verse lol . Men are told to love his wife as Christ loved the church . Never tell a wife to be submissive , just be sure as a husband to do your part , love her unconditionally , never impose your will and have her best interest at heart . If she knows you have her best interest at heart life will be a lot easier . My Filipina wife used to be quite stubborn but as time went on and she saw that She and our family are my top priority she has become what i guess some would call submissive . We always work together and use each of our unique skills to make our descisions .

Her opinion is just as valuable as mine and so are her feelings. I need to know how she feels and what she is thinking. We make decisions together.

Hi Pea, if you ask a Filipina to make a decision, the answer is often “it’s up to you.” The fear of getting it wrong prevents them from deciding to do something because that may lead to an embarrassing situation and it’s all about saving face, as you well know. The trick is letting them think they’ve made the decision, when you’ve led them towards that choice then everyone is happy. God bless. Have a good sleep 💤
