Tambay is derived from "stand by", with a negative connotation, referring to people (usually men) who are lazy or insolent, lacking formal work. Ironically, they display power despite the lack of clear contributions to the household economy or society in itself. This term though is often used as a pun/joke by some, who are actually capable.
