I have a glass cage and my birds never flew into the sides. Its easier to clean and so nice! There is NO birdseed, poop or feather outside the cage. I have lots of branches for them to land on. It has a mesh on the top for airflow and is great to hang swings on.

Hi...is ok if I just put small ventilation(like 10x10 centimetres)in a glass cage?...it's small birds(finches)

@@mirita3662 i wouldnt do that. as far as i know, birds can be sensitive to wind.

I wish more people thought this way (outside the box). Many employees at pet stores have told me no glass is impossible for a bird. They can’t climb, no ventilation. It’s not exactly true.

If your using a wire cage make sure it’s not that small “chicken wire” Bc it’s poison to birds and extremely bad for them:)

Wire cages are ideal for the birds in my opinion. But what if you make a cage half glass half wires ?🤔
@daniil2000
@daniil2000 4 жыл бұрын
I actually think that a hybrid of glass and wire would be best to keep the budgies mess off of the floor, having the top half be made of wire and the bottom half with glass(with a couple large vents at the bottom) , keeping all the food bowls under the half way point so the seed husks only fall into the waste tray and not the floor. And for climbing you can attach ladders to the cage walls.

You could do plexiglass and drill little holes for perches and stuff. I have a reason to think about doing this, and it’s for the protection of my birds. I live in an expensive city where I can’t afford to buy a house, so have to live in an apartment. The people that moved into the apartment above me are very loud stomping at all hours of the day and night. I researched and everyone online said that plexiglass is one of the best ways to soundproof. For the protection of my birds. Not to keep them from being noisy. I don’t care if my birds are noisy. I just want them to not feel like predators are trying to attack them all night

i have a transparent cage (not glass). it's a rectangular 2ft width with 3 ft height. 2 facing sides are of acrylic 10mm sheet. 2 side and top are of metal net and bottom is made of plastic tray so that it's easier to remove and clean. i went with acrylic sheets because if i want to hang perches i can drill hold, clean it, screw the perch and it's ready. the only drawback i have so far found is the Summer time the glare and heat kinda messes with bird.

There’s actually a type of glass that birds can see (in the ultraviolet spectrum) but since us humans only take red green and blue light we can’t see it. I believe to birds it has a bunch of lines on it.

Biggest problem with this is dust. Cockatiels etc could be absolutely brutally affected long term, on the birds lungs without as much ventilation as possible. Make sure to have a none ioniser hepa filter and give them wire not glass. (Unless serious ventilation is thought of). Birds can be TAUGHT to know where glass is, they are smart. HOWEVER that doesn't stop them freaking out or panicking at some point and flying into it. Worst would be night freights, when they can't see well and fly around rather than catching onto the sides of a cage theyll be met with glass and fall straight down. That can cause severe injury. I'm unsure for canaries and finches. Not my cup of tea for budgies. But i just wouldn't for cockatiels, cockatoos etc

aside from having a better look into a glass cage(which i dont actually care about), i find glass cages to be way easier to clean and keep all the seed stuff inside the cage, instead of having it all around the cage on the floor. thats why i decided to build a glass cage, but the glass isn't going all the way up of the wall. the upper third of the wall is going to be wired for air circulation. also the glass will be mounted with screws, so its not airtight, and i will have a 3 layer of glass slide doors on the front, so thats not airtight either. i also have an expensive FPP air filter to keep the air clean from dust. you can avoid birds crashing into glass by painting the glass with transparent colors (window color?) idk how its called in english, but its glue like stuff meant to be painted on glass, or using stickers. but yes, it still can happen for birds to crash into the glass and generally you should always be able to build the cage in a way where birds that are unable to fly always have something to reach every perch, as they cant crawl up the glass. so in a sense having a glass cage is indeed more for experienced bird owners.

I honestly think plexiglass cages are fine and safe as long as the birds are provided plenty of toys and space. Many pet stores use these cages and I’ve never once seen an injured bird. Birds are highly intelligent so they just need time to adjust to the cage. Birds are actually known to have very good eyesight and are able to see the exact same colors as humans actually they’re eyesight makes colors more fluorescent.

I like the idea of glass to keep the seeds from going all over the place so I'm thinking of lining wire inside the glass so they can climb plus putting a small portable fan to keep air circulating Seems like a win win clean for me and climbing for them. Any suggestions?
@JM43438
@JM43438 Жыл бұрын
you would have to place the wire super close to the glass, or you will most likely have spots with dirt, feathers and poop that you cant reach :D
@JM43438
@JM43438 Жыл бұрын
i'd suggest you dont align wire over glass, just have the lower part be glass and upper part be wire.. the back wall should be wooden so you can mount ladders and perches on this side for budgies to climb up (in case theyre unable to fly due to sickness or injury)

I was just thinking about the mess. I’ve got feathers all over my couch, seed everywhere…There would only be two pieces of plexiglass and the rest wire as in the ceiling and right side all wire in a frame. I already made one with a curio but it’s not deep enough for four birds so it got messy right away. I planted apple trees just for my birds a few years ago. I recently lost those birds unfortunately due to a plant that was moved. It was poisonous so I lost my 3 birds. I just got 4 birds, new cage etc but I really want to give them a bigger more beautiful place. I live in a season rich place so I cannot have them be outdoors. They are facing my big picture window so they get enrichment from that. I want to dedicate a large corner area with 3 sides. I would be putting the apple branches and crabapple branches in addition to hanging toys It would be 6 feet tall so we have good airflow. I might do the bottom in wire but line it so easy cleanup with pine shavings or whatever is good and recommended. I want to make it deep and put the branches away from the glass so they have lots of room. Please give me your thoughts. I appreciated your video very much. I have had parakeets for many years and I adore them. I wouldn’t want to do anything to harm them. That unfortunate accident will never happen again, we’ve made sure of it. We have dogs too so it needs to be very safe for them and sturdy. I will think about more wire and will wait to hear from you.

Coconut Cockatiel ...I’m pretty sure the odds are something like 75% chance they’ll be green tones, 25% chance blue tones. But it depends on not only your budgies colors but their parents as well. There are videos on budgie coloring that explain it.
