my problem with boxing has always been how shit the refs were and how the unions controlled the sport.
@MrSirFluffy
@MrSirFluffy Жыл бұрын
Boxrec does a good job of creating a ranking. People often complain about the multiple promotions compared to UFC. However, it boxing its better since the multiple organizations have come to an agreement that their fighters should box each other. Where UFC is NOT all of MMA. Strike Force, Bellator, One FC, and PFL do NOT fight eachother or UFC fighters. They are actually NOT fighting each other. People just have trouble seeing it that way. WBC, IBF, WBO, and WBA are different bodies that opened the gates between their champions and allow fighters to compete for other belts while being on their own ranking system. It would be like UFC allowing McGregor to fight on Bellator or PFL despite still maintaining ranking in the UFC. Over time people just got used to all orgs co-existing and see it as one thing when it's really multiple things. There are multiple belts in MMA and Boxing, only in boxing they do allow their champions to fight each other, though it can add a bit more paperwork to make it happen. Imagine the champ of UFC fighting the champion of One FC, imagine the headache both sides would have to deal with to make that happen. In boxing been streamlined, they created unified rules and over the course of decades they just allowed it to be a normal thing.
@Dracon7601
@Dracon7601 Жыл бұрын
The rankings you use are ring rankings to determine what boxers are considered the best in the world in their weight class. The problem is that corruption is way too common on boxing and there is a monetary incentive to avoid being undisputed champ due to sanction fees.
@vagabondwastrel2361
@vagabondwastrel2361 Жыл бұрын
@@Dracon7601 Just compare Bob Sapp and Mayweather. Sapp took dives all the time and nobody really cares. Maywaether's opponents take dives and it just feeds into the boxing hype on both the mayweather fangirls and the haters. I just see the corruption and check out. In general I want three things fixed in professional fighting. an acceptable roid for fighters to use so they stop experimenting. second do frequent weight checks to prevent the extreme weight cutting/rebound that gets fighters killed/injured more often than crossing weight classes. third punish refs publicly for bad calls and weight the replay over the in the ring ref. Baseball has this third problem in spades with their shit umpires getting call wrong almost intentionally. those three things would fix most sports in general.

It’s interesting to see FaZe Sensei’s analysis on influencer boxing, that it’s for fans of the influencers, not fans of boxing, which makes is clear why so many people who aren’t fans of the influencers just call it stupid. Overall it seems pretty harmless.
@DeathxThexKid100
@DeathxThexKid100 Жыл бұрын
Well, it *seems* pretty harmless at the moment. On the bright side, it's bringing *some* attention back to boxing. Whether that's positive, we'll have to see. Overall, I'm going to assume that boxing is slowly going to turn into: "Got a grudge? Settle it in 5 rounds or less! Try boxing!" Which, I hope no one does, but that's the impression I get when I see influencer boxing/combat sports. Just a popular grudge match.
@DumbFroggg
@DumbFroggg Жыл бұрын
@@DeathxThexKid100 Yeah, that’s one thing that could have a negative influence. If they aren’t legitimately testing their skill as someone trained in boxing who enjoys the sport/art, then there’s a big possibility they’re fighting just for their pride and emotional motivation. Then again, there was already a lot of that in boxing anyways.

@@DumbFroggg Correct, there's a lot of ego in combat sports. Love for the sport... depends on the practitioner, but faith in thier art I will agree on. But here's the thing, traditionally the fighters have earned thier skill, and have bested others who have done the same. And that's how these athletes earned thier fans. The problem now is, these individuals have no skill, already have the fan base, and the outcomes are bigger than ever. It doesn't just affect boxing is what I'm trying to get at when it comes to celebrity/influencer combat sports.

My concern with influencer boxing is that it demonstrates something people like to pretend doesn't exist any more: a primal urge to see violence. Wrestling has its kayfabe and sports combat is largely about skill, but people sometimes just want the thrill of gladiatorial violence. No consideration for skill, just the pure, unadulterated joy of watching someone get the snot kicked out of them.

What used to bother me wasn't so much the fighters themselves, or the fights themselves, but the fact that I felt like while I was glad they got their shot, you couldn't help but think popularity was helping them jump in line, to get these more promoted fights over people who were in the gym doing the grind. But then I realized, that's always been the case though. It's naive to assume that the champion of any given bracket is actually the best fighter in that bracket. Self promotion has always been a huge part of boxing, becoming somebody fans wanted to see, somebody who official promotions knew they make money putting you in the ring... And yeah there needs to be talent there to back it up, but ultimately showmanship has always been a part of the sport. So on that level, I guess that's just the way the world is, and this is the way that people promote themselves now.

I’m glad you got Wade and Sensei on to explain some of the intricacies of influencer boxing At the end of the day, it’s done wonders for the sport and it’s been amazing to see more eyes on boxing, especially after having the golden years of megastars fighting each other and essentially having that ripped from us by promotors who created an environment where non-perfect records get shunned despite their abilities Everyone gets a shot in influencer boxing, and JJ has encouraged people through his own determination to actually train well and be proud of themselves. Early influencer boxing was more about clout and money, but now, a lot more people (even those who fought through the more money hungry stages of it) want more skilled fighters and want to see these fighter grow Regardless though, I think it’s a good thing, sure I wish they stayed as amateurs but I think it’s ultimately a good thing. I can understand the change to pros but either way, I’m proud of what they’ve done. Especially with people like iDubbz raising money for charity and Ludwig putting chess boxing to a wider audience. As an amateur boxer, the space is much more fuller and alive with the combination of my fellow amateurs, as well as the pros, past and present, and influencer boxing with creator clash, misfits etc. It’s definitely done a lot of good for those influencers and a lot more for the community as a whole. A lot of people have grown well from this and I’m glad. It’s definitely not the same as pros and more people would agree but it’s definitely doing things a lot better than certain pro promoters, which helps demand more from promoters for more super fights. Tldr: influencer boxing over time has done more good than bad for boxing I think

At the end of the day because these people are all already well known influencers they bring an audience to boxing that wouldn't have been there otherwise. It's a lot like music as an example. It doesn't matter where you saw/heard it from, people passionate about that thing should be happy that the person found it period. Not to mention when it comes to music, most professional singers making a ridiculous amount of money are not highly skilled/technically gifted. I mean, if you look at any high end/famous orchestra all of those people are ridiculously talented. Yet, they make nowhere near the amount of money Katy Perry does. Being the best at whatever your chosen field is, doesn’t mean you make the most money. As a boxer myself, the problem I see with influencers boxing is that they make it pass as if boxing was a game, while in reality all it takes to ruin your day or, worst case scenario, your life, is one well thrown punch in the head or just in the solar plexus, and since they all lack in basically every part of boxing, Defence, Offence or just foorwork, also I've yet to see someone counterattack or just dodge an attack... however, you understand the risks are even higher, other than that the only positive thing about it is that they bring more money and attention to the noble art, but it is not really worth it, in my honest opinion.

like another dude said this is similar to skateboarding community. But i like to see it differently. Yes there will be flashy people taking over the sport making the some of OG'S eat their dust due to it. But i also like to see the aspect of them popularizing the sport (more than it is. mainly to the youth though) to many. Many see boxing as nothing more than violence, but only those who step in to fight or spar knows how amazing it feels to be in that moment trading with someone. im happy these influencers are shining light one a beautiful sport.

I hope to see some influencers make the transition into MMA if the training is more consistent. I think FaZe Sensei made a really valid point that got overlooked in my opinion. They have money, time, and freedom to pursue this. For them it’s another thing they can just do for content, and heavily invest themselves into. Also, most popular content creators already work almost 12-16 hour days either streaming, editing, or filming. So I couldn’t imagine that they wouldn’t have the work ethic either to become somewhat successful.

We have simmilar concept in Poland but much more developed and most of the fights are within MMA or K-1 rules. And not only typical influencers are fighting, for example we had guy who did 5x ironman or legit professional fighters(pro boxers,former KSW champions,UFC veterans), fighting much larger opponents with lesser skill.

There are those who enjoy the sport and there are those who enjoy the spectacle. I think the spectacle can be a good thing sometimes. It can turn people on to a sport that they wouldn't necessary get into. Pure sport or pure spectacle on both ends of the extreme are not going to be popular. There's a balance that can be struck by a few organizations to please all the types of fans.

I never really cared about the influencers that get into influencer boxing, so of course my first reaction is that it's somehow wrong. But in the end, I'm also acutely aware of just how much the 'professional' in any professional sport relies on marketability and not just pure competitive skill. It's why there's the saying that what separates a pro from an amateur is that the pro needs to make money from fighting. Whereas amateurs are in fact the ones who can afford to purely care about being a better fighter. And it's actually something to learn from pro-wrestling: it may not be real fighting, but it really condenses down the promotion-side reality of having to build characters and stories that can draw an audience and make money. Ironically, pro-wrestling these days is far more transparent and honest about that than most other professional sports, including MMA.

Honestly i think influencer boxing is an evolution of the sport. Its coming from the wrong direction, from influencer to boxer, but if you grabbed two boxers, that make some type of content, and you create a rivalry not just in a match but over the course of several months, all their content revolves around fighting the other guy even tangentially it would create such spectacle when they do finally clash. Boxers and professionalfighting already have this sort of gimmick with press conferences and weigh ins. Its just an evolution of that. Unfortunately influencers started it first. But i think professional fighters could very well adapt this, become full entertainers the way the rock and john cena used wrestling to break into acting. Fighters could use fighting as a entry way into youtubing. Vlogging. How tos. Random IRL stuff bc at some point you follow them for the fight and then youd start following them just to see them have fun on a vacation. Etc…
