With the escape the trunk technique, I find it funny how they assume you will be somewhere where you’re free once you’re out of the trunk. What if you’re in a locked garage or in someone’s walled off yard or anywhere else where more must be done to escape once you’re out of the trunk. People open the trunk when they’re AT their destination, not on an open street where you can run a away

My mom took a women's self defense course once. The next time I visited she wanted to show me how she learned to break out of a collar grab. It involved turning her back 🤦‍♂️. If the technique is worse than just freaking out, it's the opposite of training.

They mass produce videos and i guess they try to appeal for kids but also make it gringey enough for adults share them with each other like "hey, look, this wouldnt work lol". They also have gotten facebook algorithm down i guess. Almost none of their life hacks work no matter if its about cooking, cleaning or making something handy (they cheat a lot too, for example in the cooking videos whatever they put in microwave or oven is not the same product they take out. Same with cleaning "tips")

As someone who's been a parfumier, I guarantee you that getting some perfume in your eyes isn't enough to stop you if you're actually in a fight. It stings, obviously, and you'll need a second to wipe your eyes, but it doesn't disable a person like a proper self defence spray would.

@@SenseiSeth That's because they didn't show the secret technique: After you applied the perfume, you set it on fire with the ChokeholdDefenceLighter (TM) and run away from BurningFaceMan. Small note here, keep the lighter upside down and protected from the wind until you feel your fingers heat up, then use the hot metal rim on the attacker's skin... or drop the lighter inside his shirt. ;) Much easier done in a talkup when things gets gruffy at the club though.

Well on watching the video, I took one big important tip away... Don't try to light yourself on fire.... Not even to show people that it would in fact hurt.... The alternative and probably most pragmatic way of explaining why the technique was stupid , would be to explain that people don't stand still while trying to choke you and you'd be too busy trying to grab his hands from around your neck while getting pulled around to reach for the lighter. But Seth is a man that goes that extra step beyond and takes one for the team.... Which we should all respect..

An electronic one on the other hand will burn like crazy, that one could potentially do it, but since they didn't use that one or even mention it, yeah no horrible idea. I always hate how they try to make escaping from tape zip ties or rope look so easy by using the thinnest flimsiest stuff they can find and wrapping it around maybe like 3 passes There is no way in HELL you are going to poke through duct tape with a bobby pin in your teeth or just effortlessly rip through it

Also, she was using a hair pin, not a Bobby pin. Biiig difference. The ends of Bobby pins are covered in plastic and would not poke through any kind of tape. Problem is that Hair Pins fall out extremely easily and, quite honestly, aren’t great for everyday use. I work in special effects and I only use them for wigs and occasional updos. I don’t think I’ve EVER seen a layperson use them for casual wear.

Yeah I laughed too, I think it's the extremeness of the situation contrasting the "fun" joyful nature of the last clip/maybe a defensive laugh to the situation. Also, note your chance of survival drastically decreases if they're able to get into the vehicle, especially the trunk, that being said Seth makes a good point about the kidnapper is most likely stronger than you, and planned this out but at this point your best bet is to fight back. Stay aware of your surroundings my friends, and be safe.

5:05 I was taught to NOT do this. If someone has you in a choke hold, the last thing you want to do is cause them to flinch. They'll most likely flinch backwards away from whatever is causing the pain (in this case, elbow being burned moves back- closer to your throat) and you're now actively being choked instead.

Idk if I'm just overly aggressive, but once you have an attacker on the ground you should be trying to smash his skull, ribs, and knees. That last one may sound weird, but if you stomp someone's knees when they're down it can help keep them down.

That one about burning somebody who has you in a chokehold it's crap for another reason. Emotions like anger also come into play. For most people getting hurt makes them angry and for a lot of aggressive people anger only makes them more violent. So what happens if somebody is trying to choke you out and you burned them, only for it to make them squeeze tighter.

9:31 that's an actual self defence trick, but she does it wrong. Just like seth said, normally you're gonna fall, so you need to move your legs, get into a horse stance (a stance from karate, to those who dont know) and then you can do something similar to that. Of course, this mostly works if you have a weight adventage.

I feel like if two or more people are tied up simultaneously by an assailant, you are probably either in a situation where the person has a gun, which is the more pressing danger, and is probably some form of robbery, or you are dealing with a serial killer who is probably way more prepared than simply worrying that you remained tied up. Or, you know, both.
