Unfortunately, Mr. Kersten did not answer the central question: since neither Israel nor the United States recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC, what practical effect will issuing arrest warrants for Netanyahu, et. al., have? The warrants will not be executed in Israel due to lack of jurisdiction. And the US, where the warrants also cannot be executed for the same reason, can easily, and very likely would, grant the war criminals asylum. Obviously, I would like to see justice done in these matters, including regarding the war crimes Hamas may have committed, but nations can just ignore international law at their whims. Israel, as is well known, has flagrantly violated UN Security Council resolution 242 since 1967, and there have been no practical consequences for that.

@Vorname_Nachnahme I agree that media coverage in English is radically biased in favor of valuing the lives of Israelis over that of Palestinians, which is why I balance it with AJ's reporting. I try to remind my fellow Americans that some of the Palestinians are Christians, mostly Eastern Rite Catholics and Orthodox, but it doesn't seem to matter. Proportionality is one of the principles of _jus in bello_ ,but Israel ignores that moral principle, too. ICC warrants have symbolic meaning, and it's good that the International community is expressing its outrage. Perhaps they will serve to isolate Israel diplomatically, but justice requires these war criminals stand trial, and I see no way to bring that about. A more practical approach may be to apply pressure through boycotts, and divestment.

It is going to be an interesting time for the law. Any israeli diplomat or special visitor to the UK can be issued a special exemption from prosecution, especially any ICC warrant. What remains to be seen is that if a warrant is issued against an individual that is seemingly protected on UK territory, does that not incriminate this country for concealing a wanted felon, aiding and abetting a fugitive from justice. That would notionally mean that any persons deliberately harbouring said felon would themselves be liable for arrest and warrants for them could also be issued against the UK, who would legally be obliged to submit themselves to the custody of the ICC.

The UN needs to move out of the US and should consider removing the US from membership of the UN on the basis that it has taken steps to reduce the credibility of the UN and ICJ. The US can reapply for membership when it provides evidence it has resumed democracy rather than the autocracy that currently applies.
