Locked On (BYU) Cougars

Күн бұрын

Is it officially time to panic in Provo? The BYU Cougars suffered a tough loss to the TCU Horned Frogs, dropping their third straight game in Big 12 conference play. This losing streak has significantly dimmed their chances of securing an NCAA Tournament berth.
A key factor contributing to their struggles is their inconsistent offense. BYU has experienced difficulties finding their rhythm, particularly from beyond the arc, and has struggled to generate quality scoring opportunities.
Furthermore, defensive lapses and a lack of feel for big moments have plagued the Cougars. These issues, coupled with a growing sense of urgency, have created a challenging environment for the team to overcome.
Unless they can quickly address these issues and string together some crucial victories, BYU's hopes of reaching the NCAA Tournament may be slipping away.

Last year’s team played with so much more intensity on defense. I’ve hated this “peel switch” concept. We need to get after dudes, way too many open shots. Offensively, I’m not seeing a ton of creativity either. Turns out when you’re not coaching Kevin Durant and Devin Booker you need to have a solid system these guys can work through. Last year’s offensive identity was to shoot tons of threes and keep teams honest with all the back door cuts and Khalifa’s passing ability. I don’t know what the crap we’re doing this year. Everyone seems lost. KY obviously has a lot to learn about how to coach college dudes. He’s made so many comments in press interviews about how the biggest difference from the pro level to college is the crazy amount of practice time they have in college. Well, maybe that’s for a reason. These dudes aren’t pros.

I am absolutely amazed how much KY is willing to admit he has allot to learn to coach college players. In a way, it seems like he is somewhat justifying why they are losing. I also agree that it just doesn't seem like they have the same intensity and focus they had last year, where they are making many mistakes. There are many problems that need to be fixed.

I think this will be a common tale for most of their away games, that is why they cannot afford to lose any more games on their home court. With this most recent loss, it makes their last home game even more devastating. I sure had high hopes for this team this year, but now it seems they will be darn lucky to make the NCAA tournament. Unless a miracle happens, they are not going to make it. It is just to bad with all of the talent they have on this team. I could tell that Saunders was absolutely miserable during this interview. I think he sees the writing on the wall, and it doesn't look good for the rest of the season. I hope they prove me wrong.

Patience we need to have patience. These are young guys, and we are expecting to be national champions immediately. Having fresh incredible talent that we’ve never had before takes time to become a cohesive unit, unfortunately , we have been spoiled and we expect them to be able to just go in and walk through anyone . These are very good teams in the big 12 . I’m not panicked. These aren’t the old days where there were only two good teams that you had to play in the WCC . Every team in this league can beat everyone else. We might be in for a lot of lumps before BYU can takeoff completely.

Who is to say that AJ and Stanton will not change their minds after BYU fails to get to the NCAA tournament this year and go off to teams they know will be good? And what about our so-called marquee players who feel like they're not getting the NBA preparation they were promised? They might be looking at the portal leaving BYU with nothing. I am very pessimistic that they can correct the problems they're having. I feel bad about it, but I think it's true.

Team will get better but not in time to make the ncaa tourney. Problems are many but overall the team turns the ball over too much and other than a couple of players can't shoot from the outside. Baker is having a terrible season and turns the ball over all the time. Worse he drives into the middle of the key and has no plan what to do with the ball. Bench him. Demin turns the ball over a lot as well. Traire has lost his touch around the rim lately. Just very inconsistent. Saunders is doing okay but again very inconsistent play. Same for Knell. It is going to be a long season. Hope the freshman come back cuz their draft stock ain't looking too good right now.

No intensity, looks like little desire to win. Lazy play, bad passes. Terrible shooting by several players. No one looks like they know what they trying to do -what’s the game plan ? At this point a rudderless boat not a good team. It may change but most of this is on the coaches.

I’m a little surprised at all the doom and gloom particularly from long-time BYU fans. This is a very talented group of guys and a great coaching staff but they’re new. Fans kinda panicked when Pope hardly changed the roster in 2023 and they made vast improvement as compared to 2022. I’m looking forward to seeing this team (players and staff and coaches) grow together and figure out how to make it work well; as chemistry grows they’ll get into the groove offensively and defensively. They’ll start to gel; that will be fun to see, but it may be a few more weeks before they get into a better flow. I don’t believe that all of the hoopla will be gone after one week. That’s kinda like putting one or two games from the 2023 BYU football team as a make or break situation. We can play the long game here, and there’s plenty of reason for optimism.

They money was already spent on the coaching staff. Nothing can be done there. If hype is all you have, sometimes that's enough. He'll leave for the NBA, and if he gets exposed and his draft stock falls too far, he'll just go play somewhere else. Remember, this is the new "PRO-vo" era ...

@@liveforbetterhealth Definitely a lot of it is on the coaching. When Dalan Hall was right on in this game; why not let him take down the court to key the offense. Push for experience and senior play versus a struggling freshman. Hopefully these loses will be seen as a warning sign.

Egor shouldn't be playing PG for the rest of the season. His confidence is completely destroyed and throwing him into double teams to turn it over on pick-and-rolls again and again is only gonna make it worse. He's 6'9". Put him at the 3 or 4. Have Hall be the PG. He hasn't played perfect either but today the way the offense flowed was infinitely better than with Egor at the point. Hall's played these Big 12 defenses before. Egor hasn't.

Jake relax. That's right if you take a look at the stats BYU should have won . That is the whole point. BYU has the talent. It comes down to playing together as a team. In this game, it was turnovers. BYUs, the next 3 games are against weaker teams so they should win them and at the same time develop more consistency. By th, n this should be a better team. I expect to see them in the ncaa tournament.
