I think the beauty standards, they apply it to native Koreans too...like we've seen it in the idol world itself, darker skinned idols or even slightly chubbier idols are made fun of...so I can only guess how terrible it is in a corporate setting...😢

not just shes really pretty and knows how to dress, korean fluency also a bonus. plus with the personality upbringing too! but we cannot simply say that she never had any problem to fit in there, maybe its actually how she put the effort to communicate and fit in with the culture/ situation there at korea. its very subjective topic bcs different people would experience different situations too. not all people are racist but must be there out there people that actually are. basically people just dont care. but they would appreciate you more if you meet their beauty standards. its not their fault the beauty standards exist and i can say beauty standards also exist basically every where.

Let's be honest, even in Malaysia the pale you are the more people think you are 'beautiful'. But Malaysians didn't really show the discrimination/racism directly like you see from korean. Of course, old people still have this mindset, the young generation slowly erases this mindset but still some of them are toxic and differentiate people by their toxic beauty standards.

yes but to be fair, a lot of malaysian think tan skin is beautiful too, some malaysian girl like tall, dark and handsome men. and also malaysia has a lot of mix marriage, malaysian celebrity also lot of mix like amelia handerson (white + indian), neelofa (arab + malay), neeta manisha (chindian + siamese), Nazrudin rahman (chinese + malay), sonaOne (white + malay)..there is a lot more but hope you get the point

@@Mfkriptoblank-he6lu My point of view as a tanned skin woman.. i do get bullied when i was in school because of my skin colour. Women being tanned are not the standard, but men with tanned skin are the standard for Malaysians. But now, the view is different bit by bit. Maybe because of social media nowadays we celebrate all types of skin and background. People are more open to embrace their insecurities and beat the beauty standards.

Because they thought they want to work illegally in Korea. Same as Indonesian, some indonesia can't enter Malaysia when they can't answer questions from immigration as they were suspected to enter the country and work illegally. This is basic. Not only Korea, but other countries as well.

I am a Korean. I studied my college in Malaysia in 2008-2009. Malaysia is a beautiful country with nice weather. I strongly agree with your opinion. If you try speaking Korean language and listen Korean Culture like K-pop and K-drama, every Korean likes you and helps you for better Korean Life. Koreans have Jung(정 - warm-hearted), so Koreans are usually kind to foreigners. But, If you speak only your language and stick to your culture, I cannot guarantee Koreans are friendly to you. In my case, I tried following Muslim friends and listen what they said.

Thank u Sabrina for clarifying this issue and pointing out based on ur perspective and opinion. I agree with u too. There are many reasons I'm super grateful as Malaysian and someone who been raised here. I'm 18 years old and never had any true friend(not yet). But I still found my way to live independently and happily although I'm still alone most of the time besides my family. I'm talking about my journey and experience from school until college. Adults may assume I don't try to make an effort to make friends but they're wrong bcs I did and none really seem to accept me and ignore me most of the time. At times, even in Malaysia I face xenophobic too bcs I'm Malaysian however my appearance doesn't seem to look like Malay ethnicity. My appearance mostly seems of mixed ethnicity. There are plenty in Malaysia though, however not all have similar experiences and depend on fate I guess. My point is, Malaysia is a multi-cultural country and diverse. That's definitely I'm grateful for Abt. There are less racism issues here in Malaysia. Not as bad as in South Korea, even if there's a racism issue that is mostly abt race and religious belief. It happens quite a few times here and even during school years. Now I'm in college and it is still the same. Really one group of people have their own cliques for example indian Muslim prefer to be among indian Muslim gangs and there's different cliques based on race and religious belief. It's all case 2 case and is fine for me. Even though I ask myself why it is difficult for people to approach me but I just remind myself be careful on people we surround with bcs it eventually influence our outcome of mindset and lifestyle quality. So I guess that's at least my observation. So I'm thankful u share this video bcs I feel every place and country society has their own prejudice and preference. It is kind of natural in human nature. But the difference is countries like South Korea have their own toxic beauty standards which makes pretty privilege common there. In Malaysia, there's definitely less case of discrimination and certain privileges. Depends on the bosses and people of how their mindset is I guess in terms of gender and qualifications. For SK it makes sense why plastic surgery is super common there and their own society is super homogeneous and lacks self esteem. Plenty of smart people there yet still super shallow. I guess it is all about urself at the end of the day and how we want to choose to take care of physical, mentally and spiritual care. But yeah traveling there is fine though. Last time I travel was 2018 and miss few memories there. The hospitality was fine too and the server didn't have beef with me as Muslim. But yeah moving or working there definitely better think Abt it 😄.

I agree with you. Sometimes you can make all the effort you want but people still won’t accept you. It’s not you, it’s them. Just stray strong mentally. I’ve had to endure this from uni into my adult life in the UK. I didn’t face racism but it’s all about cliques. Also, having been to South Korea last year, I didn’t face hatred. I’m British but South Asian by heritage. I found the Koreans really made me feel welcomed. I have a friendly face and people wanted to help me and my family. They did comment on us looking cute, beautiful but I don’t let it get to my head. Hopefully next visit they maintain their friendliness.

I am Korean. Prejudices held by Koreans against certain races usually stem from the media. In Hollywood movies, white people are always portrayed as smart and cool heroes. So, many Koreans have positive biases toward white people. However, Koreans who have traveled abroad experience the reality of white people there and their illusions are shattered. The negative image of Southeast Asians seems to have arisen from news about Southeast Asians committing crimes due to some economic difficulties. But the younger generation tries not to harbor such biases. In fact, many Korean men like Southeast Asian women. This is because Asians feel more familiar and culturally similar to each other than Caucasians. I have quite a few friends who have Southeast Asian girlfriends. Foreigners may not feel it, but Korea has changed very quickly. There is still a long way to go, but objectively, it is improving rapidly, so don't worry and come to Korea, everyone.

I always thought that i didn't fit the beauty standard. i don't have light colored skin or my face got blemishes, my hair lookin messy, can't control it, and my eyes lookin tired. But when i moved to Korea, most of Koreans from children to the elderly look at me and they don't know WHAT I am 😂 You see I am Mexican/ Nicaraguan, my skin is light brown, small face frame, my hair lookin nappy and thick depends on weather, no make up , got blemishes on my face. Most Koreans stare at me, and say "You look Chinese" "I thought you were from the Philippines, are you from Philippines?", "Are you from India?" "Maylasia?" "Puerto Rico?" "Dominican Republic..? "Oh?America!? Where your parents from?" Then they say "oh you are beautiful!" I'm like I'm so confused. lol everday i get a new country 😂

What I constantly want to remind foreigners about Korea is that it is a single-ethnic country comprised of only 96 percent Koreans. For 5000 years... They were and are still doing well culturally and economically than most other countries. There is no need to force them to change into a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural country. They have always better options for them than multiethnicity and multiculturalism. Because they're doing better than most multi-ethnic countries... Rather, it would be better for foreigners to adapt to Korean society. Korean society is much more orderly, efficient and safer than that of most developed European countries and US. No need to turn Korea into a mess. It is better to leave Korea as the best region for Koreans. and when it comes to issues like racism, the people who enslaved black people and committed violence, murder, and genocide are in the west, not the east. even nowadays.
