I haven't read through all the comments but thought it was worth mentioning that lashes do have a life of about 6-8 weeks, meaning they fall out naturally and you grow in new ones. This occurrence is normal and not a condition created by the lifting process. I think that it is possible that if the chemicals are irritating to the skin (for some) it may cause someone to rub their eye more and accelerate lash loss and breakage. It's definitely something to think through and not for everyone but just wanted to remind folks that lashes do fall out naturally.

Thanks for sharing, Mary! Yes, lash cycles are natural.

I love when someone reminds people (or unfortunately teaches them for the first time) that buzz words like “organic” do not mean what everything thinks they do. People are so drunk on the kool-aid that they will only buy things for the big happy words on the packaging. If it says “organic” anywhere on the box, then they will buy it and feel good about themselves. Just like when something that has always been gluten-free is suddenly marketed as gluten-free, so they buy it thinking it’s new and improved. Apples have never had gluten in them. The packaging has just been changed to include a buzz word, so now you want to buy the bag of “gluten-free” apples over the bag of regular apples. None of the apples have gluten in them though, and never did. And also chemicals are not automatically evil. You are made of chemicals. Water is a chemical. Salt is a chemical. Iron, cornstarch, vitamin C. All chemicals. Not all chemicals are fatal to you, I’m afraid. You’re gonna have to chill out.

Hi Dr. Wong! I'm an esthetician and certified in lash lifts and brow lamination. I also wish they did studies on these things! They only really teach us the do's and don'ts and not about if it's dangerous for the long term. My instructors didn't know when I asked. You asked for an ingredient list and the one I've worked with from The Lash Supply in San Diego has it right on the box. I'd type it, but it's a lot so I'm just gonna put a few here and you can do further research on your own. Perming solution has thioglycolic acid. Fixing solution has disodium tin hexahydroxide and hydrogen peroxide. Nourishing treatment has keratin, sunflower oil, and sodium hyaluronate. Hope this helps🤗

The commercial grade Glue used in the extensions is what you reacted too. There is some glues that claim they are for more sensitive eyes but not really worth trying for lashes that fall out in a few weeks and you would be stuck with them during your possible bad reaction. The lash lift (perm) has no glue. There are quite a few suppliers on the market and we have seen some very positive reviews by people who claim sensitivity to eye products during our search for the best kit for our upcoming purchase. As with anything, every person reacts differently to chemicals so even if it had a 99% positive rate, you could still fall in the 1% group of bad reactions.

Sorry but it was not an informative video. No statistics, no lineups. Before releasing the video, it was worth doing a research about the compositions and the procedure itself. this is not a hate just constructive criticism. I agree that it was right to warn people about the dangers of doing this procedure yourself. By the way lash lift can’t cause breakage in a long term because on average all eyelashes are renewed within 1-2 months, sometimes even faster. And if the procedure done properly by professional there is no danger or harm at least if client don’t have allergy on glue or silicone pads which is super rare situation. And if we compare hair perm with lash lift( because in fact these are similar procedures), then there are differences in the harm of the procedure itself, when performing a perm on the head, the hairdresser can get the compositions on the scalp, which can cause some harm to the hair follicle and further growth or quality of the hair or scalp. Then, in the case of lash lift, the compositions are applied indented from the roots of the eyelashes, exclusively on particular place of eyelashes without getting on the skin, mucous membranes and roots of the eyelashes. This is why it cannot do long-term harm.

I got one and don’t recommend it. The glue needs a lot of wiping off and your very soft eye lid doesn’t need that for sure. It does make your eyelashes more brittle and prone to falling immediately after. Yes it definitely smells like the hair perm solution. Yes your eyelashes look nice but pay the same amount of money for a good mascara and it will be same effect only much much healthier for you.

What is long-term breakage when our lashes fall out and renew on a regular basis. I haven't noticed any but I do use a tiny bit of castor oil on them a few times a week which has been a great help for me. I have one of those Lash Lift kits from Amazon. It does have ingredients that I'll list here. I've capitalized where there is capitals... it seems as though there are no commas so I don't knowwhere the breaks are. These are in the order of the steps of the instructions. (I'm not sure with all these chemicals that there is a need for purified water. :P ) I think you might be shook. Perm Glue - for gluing the rod to the eye lid and then lashes to the rod: Polyacrylate Ethanol Deionized water Benzoic acid Perm lotion - on for 8 - 12 minutes: Polyacrylamide thioglycollic acid propylene glycol Methylparaben purified water Monoethanolamine Fixation lotion - on for 8 - 12 minutes: sodium bromate polyacrylamide-polysorbate purified water Propylene glycol methylparaben Nutrition lotion - conditions lashes while separating them from the rod: Propylene glycol methylparaben Polysorbate collagen purified water Cleanser lotion - to remove the glue from between the rod and eyelid: Methylparaben purified water I will add that I have used it at least 4 times after watching many videos on it - pro and youtube. I have never gotten it in my eyes though it does smell, and have had lovely results BUT it is not easy to do. My lashes point downward normally and a curl from a curler won't stay. I started doing this when I realized that I wasn't reacting to allergies but to my eyelashes poking me in the eye. Since I've been lifting them my eyes have felt much healthier because the lashes don't irritate my eyes so I have no need to rub them. I know it's time for a lift when my eyes start to feel itchy and my lower lid gets irritated from all the rubbing. So I'm not sure what to do being caught between this rock and a hard place.

Ive known two people who got eye infections from this but it wasnt because of the kit utself but rather the environment they did it in. Despite being very careful to follow the instructions they did it in the bathroom and I can gurentee they sat the tools down on the sink or some other unclean surface then touched it to their eye. A clean beauty establishment with trained professionals should be applying it in a clean environment at thd very least.

I used to do this at home with those kits and there were no ingredients. so good thing you didn't buy it, you would have wasted your money! I know it was bad to do, but I still did it both by a professional and by myself for years...because beauty standards and societal pressure to look pretty....and I loved how they looked. sigh.

Did your eyes suffer?
@bunniejanie Жыл бұрын
@@BeeLZBeebno, I didn't have any issues myself. If you are very careful, likely to be okay but it is a do it at your own risk. It is not a fun process and it is dangerous if you get it in your eye. Will also add I was very careful to not get any of the chemicals on any part of my skin or in my eyes. They were only on my lashes, not the root either. Protect your lids if you do this.

I did a college course to become qualified as a beauty therapist. It was four years long and we definitely trained in treatments, including eyelash lifting / tinting. We watched demonstrations, before studying it then finally carrying out the treatment multiply times before we were assessed by our lecturer (who was also a professional beauty therapist). We did this with every treatment including a mass amount of theory assessments. I don't really understand how some "courses" are online so all you need to do is watch a video then get a certificate? NO hate here whatsoever if people have done it that way! Especially during these times in a pandemic it is difficult to work face to face sometimes.

Thank you Doctor Rupa. I get the feeling you are a New Yorker as myself. I may be wrong but somehow you definitely made feel closer to home. Would you please do a video on ptosis? Exercises to help the eyelid or different things to try. As I'm getting older is becoming more noticeable. I live in Japan now and eyelid surgery is very popular here. I thought about doing something similar to correct my ptosis. However, is hard for me to find someone here that I can feel safe and confident enough to trust with such an invasive surgery because is my face lol Any help and infor would be greatly appreciate it. Thanks for the video! I got an allergic reaction to lash extensions. I used them for 3-4 times and I stopped. I gave my lashes a while to get better bc I lost a lot of them. Well now my eyelashes can't hold a curl with my eyelash curler and a lot of waterproof mascara. Help!!! Anyone out there with this same issue? Before extensions my eyelashes would stay in a nice curl. Now I curl them and i go out and in a matter of 15 min there are droopy.
@lunalovegood40703 жыл бұрын
Hey! I haven’t had an allergic reaction but the extensions were too heavy for my natural eyelashes so they weakened and grew weak back in my opinion. I’ve always had problems with holding a curl but I have to admit that it worsened since the extensions. Now it’s been one year since the last extension and I al trying to give my lashes strength with castor oil and it works. I also use mascara less often and it makes a difference as the lashes can regenerate and it takes time. They are longer and healthy but not as voluminous as before to be honest. I hope they will get into shape soon😍😅

Hey I know this was a couple of years ago but just as a point of interest, a while ago I came across some lash perm solution I bought online years ago. I've often wondered whether it was standard perm solution (ammonium thioglycolate) in the little bottles, or the solution used for "acid perms" (thioglycolic acid). I assumed it would be the latter but had some pH strips handy so decided to test it and the pH was around 11 so think it's actually ammonium thioglycolate, which I'm guessing is more risky/has higher potential for irritation compared to the acidic type? Anyway, I don't use it anymore and don't remember what the brand was but it was in one of the standard lash perm kits you can get from eBay/Amazon 😬

Hi Dr! Can you talk about sunglasses & protecting our eyes from the harmful rays? What to look for, do cheap glasses work as well as expensive ones, should I pick the darker lenses or can the lighter amber colored ones do the job just as well, etc. Thank you!

That's a great topic! Yes, I can most definitely talk about it. And, sneak peek - the $10 gas station sunglasss are just as effective as long as they have a sticker that says' Blocks 100% UVA/UVB' on them.

@@TiffJill hi, read your question and wanted to answer from my personal experience. I've been wearing polarized sunglasses since my early 20s and I'm now almost 46 and have no crows feet. Fine laugh lines, but absolutely no obvious crow's feet. I can say I think it has helped also I do use eye cream but wasnt strick with it. Definitely keeping covered up with sunglasses, hat, sunscreen can help with preventing early wrinkles.

Hi Dr Rupa! I have trichiasis and I’m thinking of getting a lash lift. I’ve had eye lid surgery years ago but unfortunately there’s still some lashes growing inwards and keeps poking my eyes 😭 I try my best to pluck them but sometimes they’re difficult to get and I don’t wanna jab my eye with tweezers. Do you think lash lift could help alleviate my problem? I’m a bit nervous about the chemical getting into my eye 😬

I tried the lash lift as well, my lashes are long and quite strong but flat naturally so I had great results, it’s looked amazing but I had such a bad reaction on my eyelids, it was red, dry, and quite painful so I haven’t done it again. For me the worst was when the esthetician applied the cleaning solution on my lids, hell I just wanted to run away it felt like pure acid on my lids, I even told her please clean it otherwise I’ll jus run to the tap and wash it myself 😂 even though in my country takes a serious training with actual people and instructors to be a cosmetologist.
