I am so bored with handbags I can't even stand the word "bag" anymore. I can't stomach the idea of spending $3000 on a bag anymore and I used to think nothing of it. But I can either buy a $4000 leather sofa from pottery barn that will last a lifetime, or spend $4000 on a small leather sack that I put my things into to go run my errands and leave the house. I'm over all of it. I had many many bags and now I am down to four fantastic gorgeous beautiful bags that work for every occasion. I watch luxury videos sometimes now and just don't understand the continued obsession with B A G S and the thought of having dozens of them sitting around on shelves just doesn't sit right with me. I'm SO HAPPY that the spell has broken for me. I just rather spend my money and time on other things than leather sacks.... Just my opinion.

It's a bit pointless owning a luxury handbag if we cannot wear them in public. I have mainly preloved bags and mostly got them for a song, and have lesser known labels (instead of Burberry I have Daks of London, instead of LV I have Morabito with real 22carat gold plating or vintage Celine, instead of Fendi I have Bally, etc).. They have fantastic quality but it's long been over in terms of buying new. For value I would look at how to coordinate outfits, best quality and making the most of your lifestyle and figure.

The big design houses got greedy, especially during the pandemic when a lot of people had extra money and now people are using their money elsewhere. All of the price increases with the reduction in quality drove a certain group of purchasers away--me included. I've recently discovered a company called Portland Leather Goods, very nice basic bags with a reasonable price tag. I think too people have really changed their priorities, either due to their economic situation or just because they're tired of the hype.

Loved this Viv! I’m pretty sure Neimans owns Bergdorf but yes they are failing. I was watching a stock market report a few days ago and they were talking about how down LVMH and Kering stocks were and Hermes was the only one up. I found it interesting he mentioned the classic Chanel flap doubled since 2020 because they are privately held. But how crazy. I will get around to a video on it soon. And no way I am standing in a line to give anyone my hard earned money. I walked by Chanel and said 2 words, “blank” you😂 I only stand in line at Disney. I’m so turned off right now. TFS!❤

I luv this subject! I think you are bringing up such a great topic for discussion. I feel the "tides changing" in the luxury world, especially handbags. I am finding my attitude has shifted drastically of late. I am SO put off by the insulting increases in prices; they are stupid ridiculous. The fakes are having an impact on my desire to purchase as well. As of today, there is ONLY 1 bag I would like to have, and I feel no sense of urgency to procure it, and if and when the price of it keeps going up, I will choose something else from a lessor known brand. I think the fashion houses have gotten a bit "too big for their britches". I do think there are customers with the attitude "we don't need you" when there are more affordable bags with better quality workmanship. I do think your video is "spot on". Rosey 😊

I went to Gucci to see about getting a cross body strap and they were all over me. The stock was also depressingly limited. I had no intention of buying a $5k bag for impressing people I don't even like. I wear my bags for the fun of it and renovate them. I have an old Bally which is east west style, and I changed the piping to be lime green, it was worth it. So to me bags are a project but I have enough now. I'm interested in how to save money, tips on dressing well for your figure etc. And how to avoid looking too starchy (although I do iron my jeans with starch if they're looking a bit tired, it perks them up!). Lately I'm wearing oversized linen shirts, with half leg pants they look terrific. Also roomy jumpers with the linen shirts underneath. Just good quality and simplified.

I’ve stopped. I just bought a bag from a clothing brand that’s cute and looks like good quality for $400. I’m not spending anything more than that for a bag. Not anymore. I’m done with jewelry too. That stuff is horrendously marked up. I got my Cartier love ring for 1,200 USD, and I was like “seriously? Wtf did I just spend my money on”. It was the daintiest, thinnest, lightest thing I’ve touched. No way you’ll see me forking out 7k USD for the Love bracelet. That thing should be 40 bucks USD unless it’s pure solid gold, then it should be $150. Because the amount of gold used would be so tiny.. it’s really grotesque what these brands have done to people. With all of that said, I’m going to buy one more clothing item and I’m done. I prefer to buy handmade items from unknown names that are superior quality, for sometimes a fraction of the cost. Or if I’m spending 1k USD on a sweater, I know $750 isn’t just a markup and instead a little old sweet man sat for a week making the sweater so I should compensate him for his time and skills. I’m not compensating a machine making a Chanel bag.

I think people got the shock of their lives, once they PAUSED for a moment. Now influencers are trying to change their content and their channels are appearing boring. I don't think I've changed that much but it's interesting seeing how the influencers have changed. I still love a good bag and I think the people who said NO and refused to chase a bag regardless of what an influencer may have said about it or wasn't fazed by the FOMO are the ones who are ok right now with things, as they are. I can honestly say, nothing has changed, thus far, with me and how I see luxury. I think a large part of that has to do with my thoughts and views from the beginning...be happy for & enjoy others purchases, learn what I can, know what I want and purchase what I can afford. *There has NEVER been room for a mistake, I could only afford to get it right the FIRST time.* Great topic.🧡🍂

Really interesting video Vivienne. I recently went to Las Vegas and noticed queues outside some brands, your right time is luxury and I wasn’t wasting it queuing at one store when that brand had several I could go to. Personally I’ve always loved bags and always will but definitely noticed myself shifting towards expanding my horizons looking at different designers and styles as well as exploring other luxury categories and being picky about the pieces I buy.

I was late to the luxury bag thing...and I'm 66. My vibe has always been vintage anyway...so I've been buying vintage designer handbags off and on for about 5 years now. The problem...while I have a car, it's cheaper to take the commuter train and buses to work and if it's not local...and I just don't want to be a target when I ride so I carry lower-end handbags. They are putting together some sort of homeless shelter near the main stop I transfer to/from, and sometimes there's a half-hour wait...and while there is usually transit authority personnel on the platform, I just want to avoid any sort of issues. I bought an inexpensive Dooney and Burke leather-trimmed canvas tote to carry to and from work and will probably look for another similar tote to change out occasionally...and carry nicer leather pouches to subdivide my items. I suppose I will have to make a point to carry the nicer ones on my down time. (The pochette system does make it quick to change handbags, so that's a good thing...) However...at the end of the day...and while I LOVE the feel and wear of quality leather...I'm not about to spend the equivalent of a used-to-new car on a handbag...especially not in my pre-retirement years. I may never own a high-end Hermès or Chanel bag...and I'm okay with that. I also am not going to spend an exorbitant amount on a coated canvas anything...I don't care who's initials are on it!!! This may be a "rat race", but I'm not about achieving "rat status" just to carry a "status" handbag!!!

It is interesting to read the comments clearly indicating signs of true addictive behaviour. Im not judging. I got but by the luxury bug when the war in Ukraina begun and all the talk of new atomic nuclear war and nuclear power plant accident begun. It made me almost severely depressed and it was cosy to escape into the world of beautiful luxury bags. But then i got a cold wake up shower when i added the total cost this had and realized it can not continue. Also the FOPI ( feat of price increase) contributed widly to obsess and think about the bags because it felt i needed to make a decision. Im the end i went through a 2 week withdrawal, lots of listening to dehauls, lost quality etc. For some time i felt down and lacked motivation before discipline and focus changed. It is scary to think about that it is very possible to be addicted to bags......also i dont want 100K just burn up in my house as accident or having to think about this in case of war. I now regrett a bit more just take a vacation, but saving for it now.

Thankfully she wasn’t hurt, but the crime is getting so bad, that I hardly ever wear a bag anymore. I still love looking at them when I see a rare authentic bag, most are fakes in my town. I have found some amazing quality bags such as Leatherology, Quince, Coach, etc.. I usually carry my Longchamp crossbody or Lululemon now, but I do still carry a designer small leather good.
