I have felt safe in my manufactured home in florida during storms in the past but if they tell you to evacuate yoy evacuate whether you are in a manufactured hone or stick built home. Just because your house is anchored well doesnt mean it wont be compromised due to flying debris or falling trees. Be safe everyone. Like Joe said your home can be replaced but you cant. Take hurricanes seriously.

I'm glad you mentioned the projectile debris. Interestingly, while no manufactured homes were destroyed in Fl 2004, many were damaged by flying debris from other disintegrating structures, and trees. Thanks, and thanks for watching!

I really enjoy your manufactured home tours and I really enjoyed this video too. It is an important topic to cover. There is a lot of misinformation out there regarding the safety of manufactured homes. Way to many people confuse a mobile home or a trailer for a manufactured home. Hopefully this video will educate them. Fun video. Thanks

Yes you did this was a very informative video and I'm so happy you made it! I'm even more happy that I saw it!.. because I have been trying to convince my husband who is in construction that this is the way we need to go because it is more affordable... not to mention that they are gorgeous! And while I'm at it let me tell you what I'm interested in.. a manufactured or modular home that is very affordable and not too large it's just the two of us. Of course we need a kitchen and a living room and a dining area and at least one bedroom and bathroom.. two bedrooms and two baths would be a plus but it's not necessary. We live in Florida in the Bartow area and we're looking to stay in Polk County. Do you happen to know of any that are for sale in this area? If you do could you please send me the videos and info on them.

Unfortunately, we have not been to any communities in Polk County that have manufactured homes for sale. We have been to model centers that would probably deliver a new manufactured home to your area. You can search our playlist by number of bedrooms and see if any of them interest you. Thank you for watching and happy hunting.

I do not live in a manufactured home and I'm not saying this to sound like I'm some sort of stuck up prick. Any home that suffers a direct hit is going to be devastated I don't care what you built the house out of or how it's built, a direct it as a direct hit is a direct hit.

I’m in Hudson and it’s 2023 with Idalia bearing down on us. My home was manufactured in 1982 and we’ve had our straps upgraded, but we’re going to beat feet outta here. I don’t trust that the one we have will withstand this storm. Hopefully my fellow Floridians heed the advice of local safety officials. We have insurance and will record everything in the house as a backup. God bless and stay safe, folks.

2 point’s here, (in comparing pre-fab homes, to regular built homes/houses: 1. Not ALL Regularly Built houses are built from just Wood & Sheet-rock. The Extra Strong ones, are built with Cinder Blocks, Bricks, Thick (grade) Rebars & Concrete. Whereas… Manufactured Homes/Houses can’t be Built via Cinder Blocks, Brick , Thick Rebars & Concrete… simply because the manufacturing company, would have an Extra Extremely Hard Time trying to Move/Transport two separate halves of a home Built from these materials… not to mention the massively heavy extra weight, compared to the much Lighter weight of just Wood & Sheet-rock… etc, (manufactured) halves.. 2. The Foundation that Regularly built homes are built on (Wood or Cinder Block… etc), is a Deeply Thick Concrete Slab/Foundation (held together/Re-enforced with Rebar webbing). The House is Anchored down Into that Concrete Slab via Rebar, =‘s: Extra Strong Foundation. On the Other Hand: Manufactured Houses =‘s: No Solid Rebar Anchor attachment into a Concrete (rebar webbed Slab). Only relying on Cables attached to Concrete cylinders, to hold it down. Conclusion: Yes, Prefab homes are Definitely a certain % Stronger than Mobile Homes, but Regular Built Homes (Made of Wood or Brick… etc), have much Stronger Foundations. That’s the Primary Difference in comparison of the (3- Manufactured homes, Wood built Regular Homes, Cinder Block or Brick built regular Homes) 3.

"Modular" homes are set exactly like any frame home on a foundation. Obviously not cinder block walls, but rebar fastened to cinder stem walls and poured slabs. They are absolutely held down, in fact, by their steel frame. That's why they qualify as a home that is under the full permitting and inspections of local zoning. Otherwise the fastening oversight is on D.O.T. (Code enforcement still pokes around though) which makes them manufactured vs. modular. Everything about a modular home is treated exactly like a site built home. But it's true, not manufactured homes, they are exactly as you stated. But then so are tens of thousands of site built homes. I have restored countless site built home set on piers, some over 100 years old that have weathered dozens and dozens of severe storms.

The quality of materials and construction has evolved and gotten better in stages over the years since HUD took oversight in 1976. So depending on what stage of the evolution the house was built in the quality will vary. The most important things are the condition of the roof, trusses/straps etc. and the anchoring of the frame. A good inspector can evaluate the safety based on these and other criteria. Some older homes can be solid. Thanks for watching!
