I’m starting to care much more about the form factor of the batteries over runtime and power these days… these new batteries are getting bigger heavier and more limited to use. it’s nicer working tools all day with lighter smaller batteries… there’s not even a runtime argument as I always have two more on the charger ready to go anyway. tool companies. we want smaller lighter batteries, not bigger heavier more expensive batteries. thanks for coming to my ted talk.

I agree. I am usually working near a car or RV with a charger. I don’t mind swapping batteries. I kinda want something like the AirPods where you have a small charging dock with a big battery to top off your tiny batteries. :)

Depends on the tool. I want the largest and most powerful battery on my Mitre saw and Table saw. Same with my Vacuum. I don't want a large battery on my drill however. Having the option is good and I'm glad Makita finally addressed user choice when it jumped to 40v. We want all sized batteries because no size battery fits all!

Exactly. The little 1.7Ah dewalt powerstack is such an underrated battery. They provide plenty of current for smaller tools, and they're so light. Probably my most used battery, and I never though I'd say that.

Does make sense that the 8ah and the 12ah charge in the same amount of time. If the cells are the same, then the charge time could be the same. Just depends if the charger can supply enough current for all the cells; which apparently that supercharger can. which I'm guessing is about 24 amps max on the 12ah and about 16ah on the 8ah. which means that supercharger at it's peak is pushing nearly 500 watts into the battery. nice. side note: I wish tool battery chargers had selectable modes. Fast charging is nice when you need it, but not so nice for the battery when you don't. Ideally i would like to see "Fast, slow, and storage" modes. Storage mode would be for only charging to about 50%. For now, I keep old chargers around just for the purpose of slow charging my batteries.

The 6.0 and 8.0 Forge's are the same price here in the states at Home Depot, and maybe other places. $199 usd. So for the same size and weight but longer runtime, the 6.0 makes no sense to buy anymore. With the High Outputs, there was/is only a $20 difference between the two as far as msrp. I can find the 8 HO for less than the 6 online often.
@dcl97

The 6.0 is a pouch cell, vs the 8 and 12 being tabless. While both can deliver higher outputs per cell, you don't get the same longevity benefits that pouch cells offer. Tabless do offer some charge cycle benefits relative to standard cells as well, but not to the same extent.

Here's my gripe with the tabless cells of the 8 and 12 is the size. The forge 6 and dewalt pouch cells are smaller and more similar to the good old 5.0 packs. With my 6.0 XC pack on a stubby impact I hit the front of the pack quite often. It's a small gripe I know but when you see a powerstack and how small it is then it's like why didn't milwaukee do this since they push smallest form factor tools but not batteries
@jasoningram2006

How sales aren't as reliable they're also kind of sketchy considering that it's just a pouch and not really anything else so it could potentially be very dangerous also they have to license those batteries from Black & Decker. And lastly they don't have the same power output that their new battery tech has if I'm not mistaken I do believe that Milwaukee actually is the first ones to use that technology because I think they developed it if I'm not mistaken I could be wrong though.

The extra runtime they state is because "not all ah are created equal". Basically as voltage drops, current rises and the higher the current the faster it drains. The tabless cells keep their voltage higher for longer so they're able to more efficiently deliver the current. Same amount of joules in the battery pack, just delivered more efficiently. This only matters if the tabbed cells are stressed, so running down the batteries with a fan they'll be within margin, but run it down with a leaf blower on turbo and you'll notice the runtime difference. Plus the cooler nature of the forge will also help as batteries lose efficiency as they heat up

I have an older super charger that I’m not sure everyone’s seen. It’s got a 18 volt side to charge the 12.0 HO battery in just 1 hour. Then it also has a 12 volt side that is just a standard charger. It’s got a fan and the super charger logo is exactly the same. I’ve had it for about 5 or 6 years.

All of my gear is Milwaukee - but you’re crazy if you think Milwaukee is more reliable than Makita. I’ve used coworkers XGT grinder and SDS and they are solid. It’s only because I’m an electrician and my tools don’t take as much as a beating so I can afford for my tools to be lighter that I chose Milwaukee.

What company is claiming the tabless/pouch cells provide more run time?

Test the batteries individually, not running in Series at 36 volts, you did it wrong, two batteries running in Series will discharge at similar rate

I had to stop watching during the second play of that horrible music, sorry Tools did not like. And to make matters worse it was a clear blue sky, no clouds to shout at.
