Is it a red flag to college coaches and scouts if you don't play on a travel team and only play high school spring ball?

Aiden Cien obviously he can answer this better, but in the event that he doesnt, it’s not a red flag if you’re super good. Ive seen a kid who never once played travel ball but went to combines and is currently one of Nebraska’s best players. If you’re really good, coaches will find you. Take that for what it’s worth.

Why is it teams are so fickle with players and seem to be so quick to give up on them so fast? An example in Detroit some years ago now we had a kid called up from Toledo in September and he hit like .400 for the month and created a buzz with the fans his name was Shelton I believe, anyway he really had a good spring the next year and came up north with the Tigers. By the end of April he was leading the American league in Home runs with 10 or something, then something happened, as far as I know, he did not get hurt but the Home runs dropped off and he went into a slump by the end of May he was no longer on the team and was released. This is just one example but the pressure on the kid to be immense, He had this flash of brilliance then was just gone no place to be found, Why do teams do that to players?

That’s a tough subject and its actually one of the most awkward things about baseball ⚾️ there’s rarely a team that 100 committed to playing team baseball , even at younger levels it’s hard to get kids to be humble and keep working hard

jakethesnake68 Don’t do it. It’s not good for anyone. Weight training builds muscle and burns more calories. Long distance running burns calories and you lose muscle mass.

Just lift weights, and if you want to lean out, eat cleaner. Sprints are good for training. When I played baseball, I did a lot of low impact cardio. An incline walk, or jumping rope are good choices

Ryder D if you get called up to the majors from the minors, the team is required to pay your 400,000 dollars a season minimum. If you get called up in the middle of the season and are constantly moving between levels the organization has to divide the 400,000 dollars by 162 for the amount of games in a season and each game you're with the major league team they have to pay you that amount for the day.

You get paid a small amount per month (barely enough to pay rent for an apartment) in the minors and pay increases with milb level. But you also get paid daily for food. I think I have my information is correct

Made me think of a follow up question from the fan perspective: Since AAA players may be more "selfish", as a fan of a minor league team, do you think the fan experience is better rooting for a AAA team or a AA team?

I think it really depends. I would say my AA team was a little more energetic than my AAA team, but it really did depend on the team.

Good video, totally agree, for me a good pro coach is to put all the selfish players to win in the 162 games system, you can't be pro if you are not selfish, at least in baseball, not personal, cos when you turn 50 you will still be friends with anyone

Wanting to get better and make the majors isn't really selfish. At least not in a way that's bad. It's just putting the interests of the player AND the parent club ahead of minor league wins and losses. The MLB teams aren't drafting and signing these prospects because they really want to win the NY Penn League championship. They're trying to develop big league players.
