Are New Versions The Future of Honkai Star Rail?

The fact that this wasn’t already a common thing in Hoyo games is what’s surprising. Alts are a gacha staple that allow for the devs to create new units without making a whole new character, and are way easier to sell because the character already has an existing fan base that would be much more likely to pull for them no questions asked. Why DON’T they do this more when it’s easy money?

This for sure fixes the problem of wanting to use your favourite units, but doesn't fix the problem and principle that making endgame content harder by simply inflating HP is a scummy lazy bad game design tactic used to just shovel as much cash as possible into Hoyoverse's pockets. They've already proven they can make cool bosses with neat mechanics, so hopefully they start doing more of that in the future rather than HP inflation, but we all know that's not happening. Also, congrats on 1000 subs, big man. Here's to 2000!

It's still sad that she came out a little too late and seeing the newer characters looks like the break meta is going to be forgetten and if the 1.X characters incident happened once more to the 2.X that's even worse she'll never get time to shine

Ruan Mei is used as DoT support only because there isn’t a DoT buffer… yet. Pretty sure there will be a better character to improve DoT.

kits aside, I thought that it's a rather common occurrence in Gacha games for new, future versions of characters to be released because of some development in the lore. It can also bring some relevance to older characters when the storyline is revisited

Honestly they can just released event lc that are dedicated to certain kits.... like, for every dot the enemy has, the dmg when the dot is taken is multiplied by x %. Or, for the amount of times a target attacks a target who has dot applied to them, the dot get multiplied by x% amount every x / x / x times hit

I dunno if it is, but it should be and could be. Since the characters classes are “paths,” or ideologies, it would make sense they would change. As we are introduced to new people and make new relationships and see more, experience more, our views and ideologies SHOULD change (I say should bc there are no small number of people that just ignore any contrary info to their current ideologies lol.) So they could and should rightfully change their paths as we have our adventure

I still prefer E2 Jiaoqiu over any other support for DoT. He is a third DoT DPS that has faster ults thanks to houhou AND he also increased damage dealt/damage received, buffing the overall damage in two angles. Generally speaking though I do think new forms are cool. And since I'm also a big DoT-Enjoyer i really hope we will see Obsidian from the stonehearts soon (Her heavy blood/vampire theme just screams bleed DoT)

if they came out with a better dot trigger than kafka why wouldn't you run them both and trigger twice

It's an interesting dilemma. The answer is simple, that new character replaces a character in such a way that the strength of the team is at it's peak. The only reason you would run both kafka and a supposed second dot trigger would be if kafka provides more utility to the whole team than a support or if you simply miss one character from the full team and use kafka as a filler. To see how possible this is we need to look into starrails team building. I'll use the FART team for reference. It consists of a sustain in the form of Aventurine, a buffer in the form of Robin, the main "carry" as Feixiao and Topaz as dmg contribution and buffer, basically the secondary dps/buffer. All 4 of these characters work together and make use of each others effects to achieve a goal. An ideal Dot team should also follow similar rules. We have a sustain and buffer which are Huo Huo and Ruan Mei leaving kafka as the main carry and Black Swan as a secondary. By introducing kafka 2.0 then she can technically only replace 3 of them. It is very unlikely for that to be Black Swan since she is the main applier of Dot in the team so that leaves us with only normal Kafka and Ruan mei. While yes it would probably work to replace RM here keep in mind that it is very much possible that buffing Kafka 2.0 with RM is much more valuable than just using both Kafkas. Things get even more clear if we add another character to the mix as a buffer, basically Dot Robin, in that case It's really not a good idea to use normal Kafka anymore. On a different note, the new Kafka 2.0 is a Ruan Mei replacement, which makes her the team's new buffer but also 2nd Dot trigger and we also add a sustain that can put Dot on enemies. Essentially we expand on Dot in such a way that we completely avoid replacing normal Kafka. This unfortunately still has the risk of pushing Kafka out of her role. Why doesn't this happen to Topaz In the FART team? That's because we don't yet have a Topaz 2.0 And to finish I'll answer the final question that comes to mind: No, there is absolutely nothing wrong, or anything that stops you from using normal Kafka and Kafka 2.0 in the same team, but it's probably not your best option, which is a big problem in starrail considering the rate of its power creep and overall strength ceiling.

Honkai Impact 3rd is very much like this. Though I do wonder how it would work out in HSR. Even if the HP inflation problem is solved it does open more issues alongside it. Hoyo will always make newer chatacters stronger over time, and the end game will always reflect that. To be honest I wouldnt be against them going to HI3 route of "new forms" of popular characters but thats just me.

They are releasing way too many units, and it shows in high powercreep, low quality design and writing. And the obsession with harmony units is starting to get so bad the game should be called Harmony Support Rail.

I command for this wonderful video well like you said the older characters are going to be dropping off in time the new ones who have better usability and have far more range of abilities that the old ones just don't . I personally like to play the characters I actually like lore wise or looks or personality not because they sell well and are meta sure can I beat content to its Max potential no not all not all the time but I'm still happy with the characters I have pulled because I liked them though it wasn't always the case in the middle of it I started to follow the people on meta side in end I kind of and Bandit these very units I pulled at the time because of other people's opinion I rarely use them to say the least thank you for reading and have a nice day and keep your happiness everyone even if nobody can agree or see it btw this is all my opinions so please don't start a debate with me 😅 .
