Are OVERLAP skins viable? | osu!mania

Discussing "overlap skins" and how useful they actually are when it comes to 10K+ modes in osu!mania. There's a lot of constraints and limitations within the osu skinning system, so these types of skins are not as popular, but it's still interesting to discuss nonetheless!

The colors and overlaping idea is very similar to 12key system of 'nature prhysm'. The note reading in this game is completely different and difficult from any other vsrg so using those in higher key mods looks impossible lol

I thought about the idea of an overlap skin myself a few days ago. Didnt even know these were somewhat possible to make in osu. But I would probably choose the colors differently. Instead of taking pink and green I would simply take brighter or darker tones of the original color for that column. But I havent tried that out so maybe like a border or an icon on each note would work better (so like ° for normal note and ^ for move up a row). Also an idea I would find interesting to try is to label the note with the names of the keybinds. So it's less like playing mania but more like typing rhythmically. All of these ideas might work as well in a non overlap skin, but I havent tried out any since I'm still learning 10k and trying out ideas on 18k 1*s isn't very helpful.
